Top 5 Tuesday: Top 5 reasons I love reading

Hello friends and fellow book lovers! On Shanah’s post, she talked about how she was especially excited about this topic and I am, too. As book bloggers, it’s so rare that we talk about why we love to read. Mostly, we’re talking about the books themselves and not truly why we read them. So this week’s topic is the perfect way to kick off the year 🙂

If you’re interested in participating in Top 5 Tuesday, all you have do is write up your post and pingback to one of Shanah’s posts. Make sure you pingback to her posts and not just her blog so she can add you to the list.

5. Reading was a big priority in my house

I’m not sure if I’ve ever mentioned that my mom is a teacher. For years, she would sub and then eventually, she got her full-time teaching job. Early on, it was stressed how important reading was and being educated. My mom always talks about how much good education can do. I think that’s what truly kickstarted my love of reading.

4. In one word: It’s fun

For me, reading has always been a source of fun. When I was younger, I love reading the Arthur series by Marc Brown because Arthur always had fun. The same can be said about The Baby-Sitters Club series and most of the contemporaries I read now. Getting to the discover the world, characters and general plot is fun.

3. Reading is a great way to pass time

As a reader, it’s rare for us to be bored. There’s always a book, a post or something calling our attention. Whether you’re starting a new book or continuing one, there’s an endless supply of books out there. I especially love listening to audiobooks when I’m in the car, the train or a plane because it makes the time go by so much faster. I just love being able to sit and read a book for hours.

2. Reading is entertaining

After a certain age, people start to forget how entertaining reading is. They’d rather watch TV or scroll on Instagram. I’m not shaming people who do that because I love doing it but reading is something different. When I read, I’m searching for some entertainment and excitement. As far as entertainment goes, it’s also a pretty cheap option, too.

Since I normally don’t go to the movies, concerts or anything like that, reading is my form of entertainment. It’s basically like a movie in your head. Probably why I read so many romance novels 😛

1. I can escape away from the world

The main reason I love reading is that I can escape away from everything. When I’m reading, that’s all I want to focus on and do focus on. I don’t feel anxious or nervous or like something bad’s going to happen. All I need to do is focus on my book and everything will be okay.

Reading plays such an important role when I’m having a bad day. Whether it’s because of work, my family or my boyfriend, reading calms me down. All I have to do is pick up my book and I feel better. I know this got a little bit sad, but I’m sure others feel this way too.

Why do you love reading? Do we share any of the same reasons? I’d love to know in the comments. 🙂

  1. Okay, Arthur was my favorite in kindergarten because of how fun they were! I loved the show and was so excited to find out there were books too. I have this vivid memory of the librarian in my elementary school asking me if I wanted to try reading something different after checking out the Arthur books so much and me being like “Nope, I’m good with Arthur.”

  2. My grandma was constantly reading. As a pre-teen, I took interest in it and she spent so much money for me to be able to read. Definitely helped me become the bibliophile I am today!

  3. I used to looove the baby-sitter’s club! I remember they had a spin-off type series, where the gang were involved in mysteries. I would read them late at night (not smart) and get spooked out of my wits. One of the first series I fell absolutely in love with, and I would scour the library for ones I hadn’t already devoured, haha.
