Hello friends and fellow book lovers! I’m so happy to be writing my first Top 5 Tuesday post of 2019. I’ve missed writing these in the few weeks we were on hiatus. Thankfully, Shanah is back and so is Top 5 Tuesday. As per usual, this week’s prompt is one that speaks to me and is calling me out at the same time.
If you’re interested in participating in Top 5 Tuesday, all you have do is write up your post and pingback to one of Shanah’s posts. Make sure you pingback to her posts and not just her blog so she can add you to the list.
5. Nice Try, Jane Sinner by Lianne Oelke
I might be cheating with this one a little but hear me out. I’ve heard a few booktubers raving about this and some bloggers. I don’t really know much about it but that’s kind of like Big Brother and Jane ends up becoming the person everyone loves to hate?? At least, I think so.
Santa did bring me this book for Christmas so I do plan on reading it soon. Right now, I’m thinking it’s going to be a February read or maybe March. I’m not sure if it’s going to be a good plane ride or not so we’ll see. This one is high on my list, though!
4. Pride by Ibi Zoboi
This book was super hyped up everywhere and then it kind of faded. It was always lingering in the back of my mind, though. Then Meeghan from MeeghanReadsandBakes posted about it and we talked. She talked about how much she liked it and I decided I had to read in 2019 and here it is on my list.
I wouldn’t say I’m a huge fan of retellings because I haven’t read many. However, I’m always down to try something new. I’ve also never read anything by Ibi Zoboi so that’s going to be something new, too. I’m just excited to see if I end up enjoying it since it got pretty mixed reviews.
3. A Very Large Expanse of Sea by Tahereh Mafi
This is where I really start to get into the hyped books, yikes. I can’t lie, A Very Large Expanse of Sea wasn’t on my radar for 2018. I’ve never read the Shatter Me series or Tahereh Mafi’s middle-grade series. Nothing about those books interested me and I’m not a big fantasy reader.
I was ready to just not read Tahereh Mafi until this book came out. People were talking about it on booktube, fellow bloggers and bookstagrammers. Reviewers I trust and love were giving it great reviews so it got added to my TBR. I’m just hoping I end up enjoying it as much as everyone else has.
2. The Poet X by Elizabeth Acevedo
Honestly, why didn’t I read this book in 2018? So many of my blogger friends were reading it and loving it. In particular, both Kristin and LaRonda raved about how great it was. Those are two ladies whose opinions I trust and value so there’s no way I couldn’t include it on my list.
If I remember right, this book is about a girl who takes up slam poetry to deal with adversity in her life?? I know it’s something with slam poetry but I’m just excited. I think both hoopla and Scribd have the audiobook too so I’ll have it when I decide to read it. 🙂
1. A Heart In a Body in the World by Deb Caletti
Once again, where was I when this book released? This is definitely a sleeper hit as I’ve only seen a handful of booktubers talk about it. Everyone talks about how powerful and impactful it is so I need it in my hands. I did have it in my hands at Barnes & Noble but put it down since I only had money for 1 book, not 3 😛
I think this book is about a girl who is running to Washington D.C. to protest gun violence or violence against women. I’m not entirely sure, but the premise sounds incredible. If almost all of the booktubers I love and trust are raving about it, I need to read it!
What about you? What are some books you need to read in 2019? Any books we have in common?

The Poet X and Pride are both on my reading list!! I still have to actually buy The Poet X but hopefully I’ll get around to both of them this year!
