Hello friends and fellow book lovers! For this month’s TBR, I’m actually doing something a little bit different. For me, August is my birthday month and I’m always excited about that. With that being said, I’m giving myself a small breather and creating my own “readathon” instead of participating in others.
I don’t want to call this one much of a readathon, but rather me only reading books I think I’m going to love. I will say that July was a great reading month for me so I’m hoping that same momentum will carry into August so let’s get into my TBR. 🙂
1. From Lukov With Love
I’m starting things off with a big whammy and that’s From Lukov With Love by Mariana Zapata. This is a slow-burn romance featuring two skaters who end up teaming up together for something, not sure if it’s the Olympics but I can’t wait to read it. I can only manage about one Mariana Zapata a year so this will be my one.
2. Twisted Love (Twisted #1)
The next book on my August TBR is Twisted Love by Ana Huang. I don’t know much about this book but I know it’s super popular on booktok and I just want to read it already. I’ve been holding off on it since it could be a new favorite so here I am.
3. You Deserve Each Other
Of course, I would want to re-read this book as it’s easily my favorite romance book and I haven’t gotten a chance to re-read it yet.
4. Love Unsolicited
The next book I have on my TBR is one I’ve been super excited to read and it just sounds like it’s going to be amazing. This book is about a girl who I’m pretty sure tries to rob a guy and he catches her but then wants to help her?? Ugh, sounds amazing and I can’t wait to read more from Alexandra Warren anyway.
5. Crave: A Reverse Harem Romance
Honestly, this one is more of a placeholder book as I do want to read it but I mostly want to read more Shae Sanders. I’m just looking to have fun and read some of her books so for now, this is my choice but could be something else or even more of her books. 🙂
Hello friends and fellow book lovers! For this month, I’m going to be making my TBR based on the Pop Culture Readathon and this round’s theme is 2000’s movies. Similar to last year, I’m going to be dealing with one bingo board and maybe I’ll try to fill in another bingo board but for now, I’m dealing with the “The Adult Agenda” table/bingo board.
Before getting started, this round is going to happen from July 1st until July 30th. This readathon is being hosted by Whitney and Lorryn. They have more info on the official Twitter if you’re looking for particular rules. Basically, you pick which team you want to be on and try to fill in the bingo board. I really want to get a blackout this time so I’m going to try and find a book for every single prompt so let’s get into the board and the books I have picked out. 🙂
Love & Basketball: Childhood Friends to Lovers
The first book on my TBR is Dare to Live, Dare to Love by Nicole C. Moon. This book features best friends-to-strangers-to-lovers which is such a unique trope. However, I’m super excited to read this and see if it’s as good as the cover makes it out to be 😉
Scotty Doesn’t Know: Secret Romance
For this one, I decided to go with Grading Curves by Naima Simone. I’m pretty sure this is either a student/teacher romance or a student/professor romance. Either way, I’ve been wanting to read more Naima Simone and this one is on KU so it was an easy pick for me.
Perfect Date: Set In Spring
I’ve had this book on my shelves for months and have yet to pick it up. I absolutely adored Sarah Hogle’s debut novel so this one was another easy pick for me.
Gladiator: Epic Adventure
For the next square, I struggled as I don’t read many action/adventure books but then I remembered that Christina C Jones does have this Alice in Wonderland retelling which is bound to feature an epic adventure. Honestly, I’m just excited to read more of her backlist so this worked out nicely for me lmao.
The Devil Wears Prada: Deal with the Devil, Demon or Villain
The next book I plan on reading is Neon Gods by Katee Robert. This book is one I’ve had on my shelves for weeks and have yet to pick it up. I know this is a Hades and Persephone retelling so it obviously involves some kind of deal. Plus it’s Katee Robert so it’s going to be smoking hot.
Deliver Us From Eva: Black Romance
Pretty sure I have Katrina Jackson’s whole backlist on my Kindle and I want to finally get caught up on her releases. Judging by the cover and by the rest of her backlist, I assume this one is a Black romance so I knew I had to feature one of her books on here.
Charlie’s Angels: Trio of Main Characters
I’m not sure if this one counts, but I know it’s a poly romance so I’m counting it. This is a romance between two women who get played by the same guy and then they all end up in a relationship, I’m pretty sure?? Either way, it sounds spicy and fun.
Remember the Titans: Found Family Trope by AOC
This was another prompt I struggled with, but I decided to go with Graham’s Delicacies by Mina Waheed. I read their other book, Soft on Soft and thought it was cute. This one has an especially fun cover and it popped up on some lists so I decided to pick it.
Where The Heart Is: Home or House in the Title
The book I chose for this one is one I’ve been meaning to read forever and that’s Playing House by Ruby Lang. I saw these books at my library forever ago and I’ve been meaning to read them for the longest. Now is finally the time and I want to see if they live up to the beauty of their covers lol.
Orange is NOT the new pink: Orange/Pink Cover or Spine
I’m not sure what to classify this cover as but it seems the most orange to me so I’m saying it has an orange cover. This is a book I pre-ordered before it came out and I’ve been eager to read it. It seems like the perfect summer read, too.
Phat Girlz: Plus Size MC
The book I chose for this one is If The Boot Fits by Rebekah Weatherspoon. I didn’t enjoy the first book in this series, but I want to read Jesse’s book so I’m going to give this one as chance. I know it’s a Cinderella retelling so I should enjoy that. I’m crossing my fingers this one ends up being a winner for me.
Blue Crush: Color In Title
For my final read, I decided to pick another Christina C Jones book and that’s The Unbroken Rose. Even though this might be cheating, I considered “rose” a color but I really want to finish this series as I LOVE it lmao. I’m slowly making my way through her backlist and I want to try to get through an extensive amount by the end of the year 🙂
That’s my extremely ambitious July TBR. July should be less busy than June so I like my chances plus I have tons of options to pick from. With that being said, I’d love to know what books are on your July TBR. Before you finish reading my post, please take the time to look over these attached links to help with Black Lives Matter.
Hello friends and fellow book lovers! I’m back with another GraphicsAThon post and this time, I’m going to be featuring my TBR. Of course, I’m going to try to hit all of the prompts and get a full blackout on the bingo board. With that being said, I’m going to talk about the books I plan on reading and hope that I end up being able to get a full blackout so let’s get into my picks. 🙂
For this one, I decided to go with Nubia: Real One by L.L. McKinney and Robyn Smith. I don’t know anything about this book but it seems like it’s going to be great. I’ve never read anything by L.L. McKinney but I’ve heard of her so I’m excited to get to this one. 🙂
For a 2021 release, I decided to go with The Sprite and the Gardener which I don’t know anything about but it seems like it’s going to be so cute. I know it’s marketed towards kids too but it seems like an adorable and short read.
Continue A Series
For this one, I went with Exorsisters Volume 2 by Ian Boothby. I really enjoy this series and I can’t wait to continue it. It seems like it’s going to be a lot of fun and I absolutely adore this story to boot.
A Different Format
This one is actually a re-read for me, but I saw that this has an audiobook. I’ve never listened to a graphic novel via audiobook so I think it’ll be something new. Plus this one hits multiple prompts if I end up not reading as much as I plan for.
For this one, I went with Check, Please! Book 2: Sticks and Stones is an easy pick for me as I loved the first book in this series. I have this one on hold at the library and I’m super excited to get to it, finally. It’s easily one of my favorite graphic novel series so I knew I had to include it.
If it doesn’t end up coming off hold in time, I’m going to use One Of Those Days by Yehuda Devir as I already have a hold on this one.
A Host Rec
For a “Host Rec,” I decided to go with Eat, and Love Yourself by Sweeney Boo. This is a book that Ellyn has recommended a lot and I knew I wanted to read it eventually. Of course, this is the perfect opportunity to finally read it. Plus my library actually has this one. 🙂
For this one, I decided to go with a KU manga. I honestly don’t know much about this one but I think someone recommended it for love in the night. Since then, I’ve been eager to pick it up and what better time than now?
For this one, I decided to go with Surviving The City by Tasha Spillett which I honestly don’t know much about. I’m excited to get to it though as it’s going to be my first graphic novel by an Indigenous Author which is exciting. If I don’t get this one, I have a few other options, too.
Out Of Your Comfort Zone
No surprise that I’d include another one of the BSC graphic novels. These are so much fun and I’m really excited to get more into the series as these books are some of my favorite childhood reads plus I rarely read middle-grade so it’s perfect.
Rainbow on the Cover
The cover for this one is actually a special edition I saw on Goodreads that isn’t on Hoopla. However, I feel like this works perfectly as it has rainbow on the cover and features an f/f romance which is perfect for pride month.
Keeping with the BSC theme, I decided to read the next book in this series. I loved the Netflix series when it dropped last year so I thought this would be perfect. Plus these books are just so much fun to read and to see how the story is changed/adapted for a 21st century audience.
The final book on my TBR is our group book which is Check, Please Book 1 by Ngozi Ukazu. If you couldn’t tell by one of my previous TBR books, I ADORE this series and I’m happy to revisit it. Plus it would be nice to get a refresher before I dive into book 2.
It’s a bit late, but I’m finally posting my Graphics-A-Thon TBR. I might squeeze in a few other reads, but I definitely want to get to all 12 of these. Honestly, I’m just ready to start reading so I’d like to know if you’ve read and enjoyed any of these books. Before you finish reading my post, please take the time to look over these attached links to help with Black Lives Matter.
Hello friends and fellow book lovers! This is a little bit of a late post because I had planned on partcipating in a different readathon but then I changed my mind. In hindsight, this readathon is a better choice for me as a reader so I decided to go with it. This is basically a Star Wars themed readathon in which you read books to be part of the Jedi Order or the Sith Order.
Basically, it’s a choose-your-own adventure type of readathon which I feel like is a lot of fun and I’m going to link the video below. For me, I decided to go with the Dark Side. Personally, I feel like I’d be on the Light Side but the Dark Side prompts are a lot more fun to me lmao.
Rule of Two: Read a book from a duology
The first prompt is to read a book from a duology. For this one, I decided to go with The Point of It All by Christina C Jones. I read the first book in this duology and enjoyed it plus it’s a book I have on audio. I think this book follows the best friend of the MC from book 1 and I know it’s going to feature hard-hitting topics. This was also one of my spring reads so it should work out nicely.
Lightning: Read a book under 300 pages
For this prompt, I decided to go with Small Town Curves by Deanna Grey. This book is a small-town romance featuring the friends-to-lovers trope. This is a book I’ve had out from KU for a while and I’ve really been wanting to read it. It’s also just over 150 pages so it works out perfectly for this prompt.
Force Vision Manipulation: A book with political intrigue or royalty
For the next prompt, I’m going with The Gilded Wolves by Roshani Chokshi. I know that this book probably isn’t what anyone would expect. However, it’s a book Ellyn picked out for me so I’m cautious but I know I’m going to have to read it lmao. Plus I’m pretty sure it fits with this prompt somehow.
Seduction: Romance Book
For the romance book, I decided to go with The Ex Talk by Rachel Lynn Solomon. This is a book I plan on buddy-reading with Ellyn. I’m pretty sure I’ll have this one done by the time this post goes up so this was an easy one.
Corrupted: Book with a black cover
The next book I have picked out for this one is Fuck and Fall In Love by Nicole Falls. Since this cover is black and white, I decided to go with this one. I know that this is a friends-to-lovers romance and I’m very excited. I have this one on Kindle as it was a freebie and I can’t wait for it lmao.
Those are the books I have picked out for May the Force Read With You readathon and I’m so excited to finally be posting my TBR. I’d like to know if you recommend any of these books and if you’re participating in any readathons in May. Before you finish reading my post, please take the time to look over these attached links to help with Black Lives Matter.
Hello friends and fellow book lovers! For my monthly readathon, I decided to go with something different and that’s a new readathon. This April marks the first round of the #ReadFatPositive readathon. This readathon is hosted by Ali from ReverieWithAli and it lasts for a week long.
Round 1 is going from April 7th until April 13th. For this round, there aren’t any prompts so the focus is just to read books that feature positive fat rep. With that being said, I went a little wild with my TBR and decided to pick out five books to try and finish during the week. 🙂
1. Miss Meteor
This is a book I’m super excited about after listening to a preview of the audiobook. I’ve heard pretty good things about it and even though I’m not as big of a YA reader much anymore, I want to give it a chance. I think this book features two girls who enter a beauty pageant as a way to say FU to their small town. I might be wrong but I’m excited for it plus I’m buddy-reading it with Ellyn 😀
2. Being Neighborly
The next book on my TBR is Being Neighborly by Meka James. This book is about two neighbors who start hooking up and then I think it evolves from there. When I was looking at different romance books, this was one that said it featured a “curvy” heroine so I’m going to count this one. Either way, I have this one on my Kindle and I’ve been looking for an excuse to read it.
3. Get A Life, Chloe Brown
The next book I have picked out is actually a reread and that’s Get A Life, Chloe Brown. I read this book in December 2019 and it really made me fall in love with Talia Hibbert. I’ve been wanting to reread this book and see if it’s still one of my favorites. I feel like there’s no way it won’t be as amazing upon my second read. This was an easy pick for my TBR.
4. The Lady’s Champion
The next book I have on my TBR is The Lady’s Champion by Marie Lipscomb. This book features a fat hero and heroine I’m pretty sure. I’ve heard really good things about this series and I’m excited to finally be reading it. I absolutely love this cover and I’m on the lookout for more books featuring non-skinny heroes as that’s what I’m attracted to lmao.
The final book I have on my TBR is another one where the hero is fat and honestly, I’ve been hearing amazing things about these novellas. I haven’t always been the biggest Jessa Kane fan but their recent books have been much improved over what I’ve read. While I’m a bit skeptical as this one’s set in high school, I’m excited to read about a fat hero and the romance he has with a cheerleader?
Those are my picks for the first round of the #ReadFatPositive readathon. I’m crossing my fingers I can finish all of them during the week. If not, I do plan on reading these at some point in the month. Before you finish reading my post, please take time to look over these attached links to help with Black Lives Matter.
Hello friends and fellow book lovers! For April, I don’t have very many books I plan on reading and that’s pretty rare for me. As always, I’ll be talking about my Love/Hate picks from Ellyn and then the rest of this is basically going to be me talking about the books I want to get read for Spring Into Love Bingo so let’s get into my short TBR as you’ll be getting a readathon TBR later this week .
1. Act Your Age, Eve Brown
The first book I NEED to read in April is Act Your Age, Eve Brown by Talia Hibbert. I love Talia Hibbert so much and I’m so excited yet sad to finish this series. Personally, I’m hoping this ends up being an amazing finale and I already have a post planned for it so I have so many hopes for this one.
2. The Hitman
The second book I want to get read is for #SpringIntoLoveBingo and that’s The Hitman by Katrina Jackson. I read the first book in this series and enjoyed it so I’m excited to see what I think about this one. All I know is that it’s a romance between a woman and a hitman which sounds like it could be amazing. Knowing Katrina Jackson though, she won’t disappoint me even though this isn’t in my comfort zone.
3. The Beast
The next book I want to get read is another one for Spring Into Love Bingo and that’s The Beast by Katee Robert. This is the fourth book in her Wicked Villains series and I can’t wait to see how the pairing works out in this one. It’s another m/f/m story and I’m curious to see how these three are going to come together. Katee Robert is another author who doesn’t disappoint me though so I have high hopes.
4. The Duke Who Didn’t
The final book is a lighter read and that’s The Duke Who Didn’t by Courtney Milan. This is going to be my first Courtney Milan I think and I’m excited to see what I think. I feel like this book has gotten some mixed reviews so I’m curious to see what I think. Plus I love the cover and I’m pretty sure it’s a friends-to-lovers story so I’m already hyped up for it!
5. The One
The first book Ellyn chose for me was The One by John Marrs. I’m a little nervous about this one as I’ve heard somewhat mixed things about it. However, I’m going to try and go into it with an open mind. I’m not sure how this one is classified as a romance but I’m going to try and be optimistic. Lol
I am not shocked that Ellyn picked this one for me. Last year, she decided to force me to read Caraval and I’m not surprised that she picked this one. I’m a little nervous about this one as I’m not sure how the romance is going to be in this one either. I’m pretty sure I know who this is going to follow but I’m going in with an open mind again and see if it ends up being as solid as the first book in the series. 🙂
With that being said, those are the books I have planned to read for April. When I’m writing this, I’ve already read one of these books and I really enjoyed it so I’m feeling this month. With that being said, I can’t wait to see what April holds for me and if I’ll end up reaching the goal I have set for myself. Before you finish reading my post, please take time to look over these attached links to help with Black Lives Matter.
Hello friends and fellow book lovers! Last year, I decided to participate in the #SnowInLoveBingo challenge and I saw that they decided to do a spring version. As for this one, I’m feeling a little less confident as some of these prompts don’t immediately scream out to me. Either way, I’m going to try to nail down as many books as I can for this one lmao. With that being said, let’s get into the details.
This round is going from March 1st until May 31st, 2021. I had a lot of fun with the last round so I’m excited to give this one a try. As for my TBR this round, I’m keeping similar rules to last round as I’m going to try to use the books I picked but I’ll be happy to sub in others so let’s get into the graphic and my picks for this round.
When I was looking for recs for this prompt, I saw that Jen (one of the hosts) posted about this book featuring a glossary in it which is a diagram so I decided to put it here. I had it on a different prompt but I decided to change things around a little bit. Either way, I’m still excited to get to this one and to see if Courtney Milan is a new favorite author for me.
For this one, I chose Curious by Jessica Savage. This book follows a girl who has a secret crush on a guy and then she starts having a crush on his girlfriend. I think it ends up being a ménage between the three of them and it seems like it’s going to be right up my alley.
For Spring Cleaning, I chose to use Office Hours as it’s a book I’ve had on my Kindle for almost a year and I still haven’t read it. Basically, it’s going to stand in as my spring cleaning my Kindle since I’ll finally be able to decide if I want to keep it on my Kindle or get rid of it. This one follows two professors who start a relationship, I’m pretty sure??
Set in Continental Europe
The next book I chose for this square is The Hitman by Katrina Jackson. This is the second book in The Family series and I know these are mafia romances. Either way, I want to give this series a chance.
Makes You Laugh
The book I chose for this one is Text Me Baby One More Time because Teagan Hunter’s books always crack me up. There’s just something about her writing style that makes me laugh. Her books just perfectly encapsulate what it’s like to date in the modern world and what it’s like when you’re texting someone you’re interested in. Honestly, this one feels like it’s perfect for this square.
For this next prompt, I decided to go with A Deal With a Demon. While a deal isn’t exactly like a pact, I feel like it’s going to work out well with this one. Either way, I just really want to read this book and I’m super excited about it so I’m going to use this book for the square lmao.
Out of Comfort Zone
The book I chose for this one is Beautiful & Dirty by Katrina Jackson. This is definitely out of my comfort zone as it focuses on a mafia romance plus it features cheating as a major plot-point. Those are two things I usually don’t go for. However, I do love Katrina Jackson so I’m willing to get out of my comfort zone because of her lmao.
The book I chose for this one is Release Some Tension by Nicole Falls. I absolutely love Nicole Falls and this is one I’ve been eager to read. Plus that cover just makes this book look absolutely amazing. I’m just excited to finally get to it as it’s been on my Kindle since the end of last year.
MC has Unusual Scent
I honestly have no idea what to do for this one?? I might go with an alien romance as there’s usually something that takes place in those books. Once again, if you have any recommendations, be sure to let me know.
For Sophomore Novel, I decided to go with Jackie Lau’s Mr. Hotshot CEO. This is the second book in the Kwan Sisters series and honestly, I’m just excited to get to this. I really love Jackie Lau and I need to finish reading her backlist so this is a win-win for me.
For this one, I decided to go with Unmasked by the Marquess by Cat Sebastian. I’ve been trying to dip my toe back into historical romance and this is another one I saw from my library. I’ve never read anything by Cat Sebastian but I’m excited to get to it. The cover really drew my eye in and I’m pretty sure it’s a queer romance. Either way, I’m down to give it a try.
Social Media Rec
The next square is to use a book that’s been recommend on social media. I follow Amanda from Talk About Swoon on Instagram and she does amazing recommendations. One post she’s done recently is recs of books featuring multi-cultural romances in which neither of the characters are white. It works out perfectly for me as she recommended If She Says Yes which is a book I recently bought upon her recommendation lmao. Adore the cover. Adore the premise, I truly can’t wait.
I’ll probably sub this one in for later so this is a wait-and-see one.
Terms of Endearment
For this one, I chose to go with The Prince’s Submissive which is the first book in the Naughty Fairytales series and I’m pretty sure this girl gets bought by a prince??? I’m not sure, but it sounds like it’s going to be delightful. I also feel like this one is bound to have some kind of term of endearment so I hope I’m right. Either way, it sounds like it’s going to be a fun and steamy time so I can’t complain.
My favorite romance trope has to be friends-to-lovers and I saw this book when I was looking around on Amazon. I’ve read this author before but I didn’t enjoy her first outing so I’m going to give her another chance. Add my favorite trope to boot, I’m hoping I end up loving this.
Competition or Reality TV
I read the first book in this series for a round of smutathon and honestly, didn’t enjoy it. However, I recently saw a booktuber recommend this one and I’ve been curious. This book focuses on a romance between a hockey player who is a judge on a baking competition and one of the contestants. It seems like it’s going to be a lot of fun and honestly, a better read for me.
Do I really even have to explain this one?? I’m sure I don’t but this is the fourth book in Katee Robert’s Wicked Villains series and it’s a ménage between the Beast, Gaston and Belle I’m pretty sure. Either way, I’ve loved this series thus far so I’m excited.
For this one, I decided to go with a book that features flowers on the cover. This one is a friends-with-benefits story between two people who don’t particularly like each other. This is also a new-to-me author so it’ll be something new for me. Sounds like it has the potential to be a lot of fun.
Spring Break: Vacation
For this square, I decided to go with Ever After Always which is book three in the Bergman Brothers series by Chloe Liese. This one is a marriage in trouble romance and I’m pretty sure the two end up going on vacation to try and save their marriage. I really do enjoy this series and I’m so pissed that I waited this long to start it. However, I do plan on reading book two but you’ll find out more about that later.
The book I chose for this square is Bump in the Night by Lara Kinsey. I’m pretty sure this is a historical f/f romance and it sounds like it’s going to be great. I really enjoy Lara Kinsey’s books and they always seem to put a smile on my face. This one sounds like it’s going to be something different than her previous works so I’m excited.
Big City Romance
For this one, I chose His Grumpy Childhood Friend as this book is set in Toronto which I consider a big city romance. I’ve already read this book and ended up subbing it because I love Jackie Lau so much.
PNR/SFF by AOC
For this square, I decided to go with Sanctuary by Alexandria House. This is an immortal fated-mates story if I’m understanding the concept right. I could be wrong, but this was the first book to come to mind when I saw this prompt so I knew I had to use it.
The book I chose for this square is one that I’m pretty sure is a romance book, or it at least features some romance in it. I could be wrong but I know I’ll be reading this one pretty soon so I’m going to try and count it lmao.
Mental Health Rep
I’m not sure if you’re sensing a theme here, but I really want to read a lot of Courtney Milan’s books so here we are again. I struggled with this prompt and then I saw this book mentioned over and over again. I think this book either deals with depression or anxiety. I’m not really sure but I’m excited to read one of her contemporary books.
The final book I’m using to try and get a blackout is Always Only You by Chloe Liese. This is the second book in the Bergman Brothers series and honestly, I’m dying to read this. This is a romance between a girl who works for a hockey team and the Bergman brother who is a hockey player. No doubt we’re going to hear about his forearms or so I hope….lmao
Those are all the books I currently have picked out for this round of #SpringIntoLoveBingo. I feel like this is such a fun concept and I really can’t wait to participate in this round. I also might post some recommendations like I did for the last round. Either way, I’m so excited. Before you finish reading my post, please take time to look over these attached links to help with Black Lives Matter.
Hello friends and fellow book lovers! Welcome to another TBR post on BookishlyRebecca and I’m also going to talk about one of my yearly goals. Since I participated in readathons in January and February, I’ve decided to make it a monthly goal to participate in at least one a month. Even though that seems like a hefty commitment, I think I can do it. Plus I already know of some future readathons I have on my radar.
For March, I had a little bit of trouble finding one but I ultimately decided to go with the Breezy Hollow Readathon. Even though I’ve never played Animal Crossing before, this one seemed pretty chill but also allowed for a lot of customization as far as my TBR. This was created by Ashley from Vivaciously Vintage who is a fellow blogger and honestly, she put a lot of time and effort into this so it’d be nonsense for me not to give it a try.
You can find all the info about the readathon in her post along with the prompts on a separate page. If I didn’t mention it before, this readathon lasts the entire month and requires as much or as little participation as you want.
Step 1: Name Your Island (Read a book with a title that starts with the first letter of your first name)
The book I chose for this one is Release Some Tension by Nicole Falls. I think this is a book I bought during her Black Friday sale and I’ve been eager to read it since then. I honestly don’t know much about this book but it sounds delightful. Plus it was the first title on my Kindle that started with R that I hadn’t already read so it was fate lol.
Step 2: Get Your First Villager (Jock – Read a book with a MC that loves sports/is on a sports team)
The next prompt is to read a book with an MC who loves sports or is on a sports team. For this one, I decided to go with Always Only You by Chloe Liese. This is the second book in the Bergman Brothers serise and after loving the first book last month, I want to continue the series. This book follows one of Ryder’s brothers who is a professional hockey player and I’m pretty sure it’s a romance he has with someone who works for the team who is autistic. Either way, I’m excited to read this next book and it fits perfectly for this prompt.
Step 3: Get Your Second Villager (Read a book with a MC who has a younger sibling!)
If I remember the last book correctly, then this book either features the last MC’s twin sister or her older sister. I’m not really sure which one it is but I feel like it’s going to be a lot of fun. I’ve really enjoyed all of Teagan Hunter’s other books in this series so I’m excited. Tbh I’ve already put two long books on my TBR which is so unlike me so we’ll see if I end up reading this one or subbing it out lmao.
Step 4: Pick a Hemisphere (Read a book that’s set in the springtime!)
The book I chose for this prompt is A Good Luck Fuck by Nicole Falls. I struggled with this prompt but then I realized I could use holiday book. This book is set around St. Patrick’s Day which is what I consider spring so I’m using it. I might be pushing things a bit, but I feel like it’s a solid pick lmao.
Step 5: Pick A Fruit (Read a book with a mostly yellow or pink cover!)
The book I chose for this one is Grumpy Jake by Melissa Blue. I’m counting this one as a book with a yellow cover as the background is yellow. While most of it features the book character, I do consider this one as having a yellow cover. Plus I’ve been wanting to read this for a long time so I’m excited to finally get into it. 🙂
The other two books I have on my TBR is from Ellyn and that’s for our Love/Hate Challenge. The books she chose for me are Blanca & Roja by Anna-Marie McLemore and The Weight of the Stars by K. Ancrum. I’m super excited to get to these two and to figure out which one she love and which one she hated. Anyways, those are my picks for March even though I’m sure I’ll read more lmao. Hello friends and fellow book lovers! If you didn’t know, I’m partciatping in the Golden Girls weekend edition. This is the first round of this readathon in 2021 and it’s set during Galentine’s Day weekend. The round will be taking place for February 12th until February 15th with a focus on certain episodes. Basically, it’s a chance to read and watch if you want to.
Above is a list of the challenges and the episodes that they’re pulled from. For me, I’m going to try and watch the episodes along with reading the books. I do have plans on the last two days of the readathon but I like my odds so let’s get into my TBR.
Guess Who’s Coming to the Wedding?: A book set around a wedding
The first book I chose is Better At Weddings Than You which is a book I have on my Kindle and I’m super excited for. I honestly don’t know much about this book aside from the fact that I think it’s a romance between two wedding planners. Either way, it seems like it’s going to be a light and fun romance which is perfect for Valentine’s Day weekend.
The Competition: A book with a bet or game
The book I’m choosing for this prompt is Truth or Dare by Danielle Allen. This book is about a group of old college friends who are playing truth or dare before a wedding so this could actually be doubled up. Either way, I’ve had this one on my TBR forever and have yet to pick it up so I need to hold myself accountable and finally do it.
A Little Romance: A book with less than 200 pages
The next book I’m going with for this prompt is A Dirty Valentine by Nicole Falls. This is a book in her Sexy Holiday Shorts series. I read her Thanksgiving one and loved it so I figured it’d only be right to read her Valentine’s Day one. This one is also less than 50 pages so it definitely counts for this prompt.
The Flu: A “contagious” book you see everywhere
The book I chose for this prompt is Giant Days Vol 6 which is an incredibly hyped comic series about best friends in college. I usually read this around this time of year so this is the perfect book to use. Personally, I really enjoy this series and I can’t wait to read more of it. Hopefully I’ll end up finishing the series within the next year or so but I’m going to go slow and just tackle this one for the weekend round.
Anyways, those are the books I have picked out for the Golden Girls Galentine’s weekend readathon. Even though I have plans and know I’ll have to work, I’m hoping I can end up getting them all done. Plus I’m already planning on reading a book everyday in February so these should be solid and quick reads for me to get done. Hello friends and fellow book lovers! Welcome to my first TBR of the year. For this year, I’m doing something a little bit different. Every month, Ellyn and I are doing the Love/Hate Challenge which is inspired by Emma from Drinking By My Shelf and Emma from Emma Tobias. For Ellyn, we’re going with two books and two movies, one of which we loved and one of which we hated. Basically, the other person has to guess which one we loved and which one we hated.
For January, we decided to do 2020 Releases. I’ll link Ellyn’s post when it’s up but let’s get into the two books she picked out for me so we can kick off my TBR for this year. 🙂
1. The Glass Hotel
I’ve never read anything by Emily St. John Mandel so I’m curious to see what this book is about. I’m also curious which side this falls on for Ellyn. I know it’s going to be out of my comfort zone either way but let’s get into the second book she has picked out for me.
2. Disfigured: On Fairy Tales, Disability, and Making Space
The second book she has picked out for me is Disfigured by Amanda Leduc. Once again, this is another one that’s out of my comfort zone, but I’m excited to give it a try. I also know it’s under 300 pages so I’m excited to pick it up and see where I think it falls on Ellyn’s scale.
The next section of my TBR is for the Pop Culture Readathon. This round, it’s all about 80’s movies which is an amazing topic although not the most diverse. For this round, I’m going to be double-dipping and trying to include as many reads for the #SnowInLoveBingo board as I can.
For this round, I’m going to be doing the Brat Pack bingo board which I’ll feature below this so you can see the prompts and I can get into the books I have picked for them. 🙂
Pretty In Pink: Pink Cover
This is my first double dip for both readathons and it’s Rapper’s Delight by Kenya Goree-Bell. I saw this cover months ago and I’ve been eager to read it. While it does feature pink and purple, I think it works for this prompt and I’m happy to finally be getting to it.
Can’t Buy Me Love: Fake Dating
The next book is another double-dip and that’s Make A Scene by Mimi Grace. I read this author’s debut and absolutely loved it. This one is a fake dating romance between two business owners and that’s really all I know. I do love the cover though so it was an easy pick for this one.
Sixteen Candles: # in the Title
This one might be cheating a little bit, but I’m still counting it. I’ve been wanting to read all of Jackie Lau’s backlist since my library has basically all her books. This one is a romance between a guy who owns a tech company and a girl who owns a pie shop which sounds delightful. Plus pi is technically a number so I’m counting it.
Say Anything: Opposites Attract
The next book I have on my TBR for this is His Beauty by Jack Harbon. I know this is a beast/human romance so I’m counting that as opposites attract. I might be wrong there, but once again, I’m just going with what I think. Seems like it’s going to be a fun sexy time which I can’t get enough of.
The Breakfast Club: Fave Character Trope
For this one, I’m going with Diana: Princess of the Amazons which is another double-dip but this time, it’s for the next round of GraphicsAThon. After watching the new Wonder Woman movie, I’m excited to read this take on her story and to see a younger version of Diana.
Duckie Dale: Unrequited Love
I don’t have one for this so I’m hoping that I end up finding a book for it or that someone has one to recommend.
Teen Witch: Teenage Magic User
For this one, I’m double-dipping for GraphicsAThon and that’s Aquicorn Cove which is another one by Katie O’Neill I’ve been dying to read. I’m pretty sure this features magic in some capacity so I’m counting it for this prompt.
The Heathers: Bright Cover/Spine with a Dark Plot
For this one, I decided to go with Snapped by Alexa Martin. This cover is incredibly colorful and bright but with a lot of darker/hard-hitting plot points so I’m including it for this prompt. Hopefully it ends up being as hard-hitting as everyone says or features some dark moments because I really want to finish out this series.
Ferris Bueller’s Day Off: Plot in/Author from Chicago
The book I chose for this prompt is Love, Hate and Other Filters by Samira Ahmed. I’ve never read anything by this author and I know for a fact that it was hyped a few years ago so I know my library will have it. I’m not a big YA reader anymore so this seems like it could either change my mind or keep my reading on the path it’s been going.
Those are all the books I have picked out for January. I might end up doing the bonus challenge for the Pop Culture Readathon but we’ll see. Either way, I wanted to get this TBR out and hopefully, hold myself accountable for finishing all of these books this month.
