January 2020 TBR in which Ellyn picks my TBR

Hello friends and fellow book lovers! Welcome to my second TBR post of this week and this time, we’re talking about my January TBR besides the Smutathon. To kick off the year, I’m doing something a little different and letting Ellyn pick my TBR. If you don’t know, Ellyn is a fellow blogger (@allonsythornraxxbooks) and she’s one of my favorite people so we decided to pick out each other’s TBRs.

She decided to pick out 4 books for me and honestly, all but one of them is in my comfort zone. The other three are books that I would have never picked up. However, I’m excited to give them a try and see how similar Ellyn and my’s tastes really are. Anyways, let’s get into the books she picked out for me.

1. Let’s Get Textual by Teagan Hunter

The first book that I’m featuring is Let’s Get Textual which is the book that I’m sure I’m going to enjoy. I’ve never read anything by Teagan Hunter before but I know this is a texting romance I think. Either way, this is the one book that I’m sure I’m going to enjoy and I plan on reading it during Smuathon. Hopefully, this gets checked off my list sooner rather than later.

2. Caraval by Stephanie Garber

The second book she picked for me is one that I would’ve never picked for myself. I’ve heard a lot of hype around Caraval and I generally avoided it. The premise didn’t sound that appealing to me, but these are Ellyn’s choices. I know that this is one of her favorite books and she rated it 4-stars so I’m excited to see if it ends up being a surprising read for me. Either way, I’m cautiously optimistic about this one lmao.

3. The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan

Next up is a book that I likely wouldn’t have picked up on my own. I think I was a bit older when this series came out so I just never picked it up. I’ve heard a lot of good things about it and I know that it’s incredibly beloved. While I don’t know much about Greek mythology, I’m crossing my fingers that I enjoy this. Personally, I’m not sure I would’ve ever read this without Ellyn picking it so maybe I’ll find a new favorite series.

4. Wild Beauty by Anna-Marie McLemore

The last book that Ellyn picked out for me is Wild Beauty and I feel like I’m the last person in the blogging world who hasn’t read this. I know that this is magical realism and features one of Ellyn’s favorite love interests (I think??) I just know that she’s been telling me to read this forever and now she controls my TBR so she can just make me now lmao. Nevertheless, I’m excited to pick this one up!

Those are all the books I plan on reading in January 2020. I’m sure that I’ll read more but those are my must-reads. 😀

Smutathon Winter 2020 TBR

Hello friends and fellow book lovers! In December, Riley and Lainey announced that there was going to be another round of Smutathon. This round is going from January 4-11 and it includes a mini bingo board with prompts on it. Personally, I’m going to try for a blackout even though I’m not sure if that’s going to happen. Either way, I’m going to try so let’s get into it!

I’m going to try to find a book for each challenge and hopefully, I end up reading all of them. 🙂

Enemies to Lovers

This is actually the only one I wasn’t able to come up with a book for. I might end up finding something later but we’ll see lmao.

New-To-You Author

For the first book I plan on reading, I’m going with Desperate Measures by Katee Robert. I haven’t read anything by Katee Robert before so I honestly have no idea what to expect from it. I know that it’s Jasmine x Jafar smut so I’m anxious to see what I think of it. I know that a lot of people read it in the last round of Smutathon so I’m excited.

The book I chose for this prompt is Let’s Get Textual which was recommended to me by Ellyn. I haven’t read anything by Teagan Hunter before and I’m excited to see if I like it as much as Ellyn did. I have a post coming up later in the week

2019 Release

47327358. sy475

This is another book that I’ve heard talked about a lot and that’s Whipped by Jenika Snow. This is a SUPER short novella that follows a romance between a business owner and a plus-sized woman I think. I don’t know much more about it but since it’s 160 pages, it’ll be a quick read.

Forbidden Romance

39555142. sy475

For this one, I’m going with Birthday Girl by Penelope Douglas. I’ve never read anything by Penelope Douglas but this book sounds so interesting. It’s a romance between a girl and her boyfriend’s dad so I’d say that it’s forbidden or at least, unconventional. I’ve been hearing about this book for years so I’m excited to finally give it a chance.

Fake Dating/Marriage

48667576. sy475

At first, this was going to be another blank prompt. Since I joined Kindle Unlimited, I decided to do some digging and I found The Loner’s Lady by Jessa Kane. While the main couple doesn’t fake date, it is featured in the story. I think that’s close enough as it still features the trope. Either way, it’s super short so I figured why not?

44528370. sy475

I had a lot of options for this one but eventually, I figured out what I wanted to read. I’ve heard good things about Chelsea M. Cameron’s f/f romances so I’m going to finally give one a try. I have the audiobook of this one so I’ll probably try to knock it out on one of my days off. I haven’t heard much about it so I’m curious to see if I like it. I think it’s an enemies-to-lovers romance so technically it could double up 😛

Workplace Romance

31304760. sy475

Going along with authors I haven’t read, I’m going to be reading Penny Wylder’s book Filthy Boss as this is another one I found on KU. Honestly, this wasn’t my first pick but I want short books so this is going to have to do. Regardless, I have a feeling that it’s going to be equal parts sweet yet steamy which I enjoy.

Out of Comfort Zone

25128811. sx318

The last book on my list is Ice Planet Barbarians by Ruby Dixon. I know that almost everyone in the romance booktube/book blogging world has read this so I knew I had to feature it. I know that it’s alien smut and some minor plot details but that’s all I want to know.

Those are the 8 books I have on my TBR for SmutAThon. I’m crossing my fingers that I get to all of them but we’ll see what happens. Honestly, I’d be happy to get to half of them lmao as it’s a new year. Regardless, these are my tentative plans for SmutAThon 😀

December 2019 TBR

Hello friends and fellow book lovers! For December, I decided that I wanted to catch up on all the Christmas books I’ve been saving. There are a ton that has come out or series that have Christmas books that I want to get to. That’s what most of my TBR is going to be and as I mentioned in my wrap-up, I need to read at least 9 books. Let’s get into the books I want to read. 😀

29568847. sy475

1. One Hot December (Men at Work #3)

If you’ve been reading my wrap-ups, then you know that I’ve been working my way through this series. The final book in the series is set during Christmas and I think that it follows a welder and the relationship she has with her boss. Personally, I’m excited to finish this series and see if it ends up being as good as the previous 2 books.

2. The Afterlife of Holly Chase

One of the books I’ve been saving for December is The Afterlife of Holly Chase by Cynthia Hand. For my birthday, Ellyn got this for me and I’ve been eagerly waiting to read it. I know that it’s a modern retelling of Christmas Carol and that the main character is an absolute brat so I’m excited to see if I end up loving it. I know that Ellyn likes it so I’m hoping that I’m going to enjoy it.

43242142. sy475

3. Hoops Holiday (Hoops #2.5)

I finally caught on the Hoops series this month and I forgot that there was a Christmas novella in between the 2nd and 3rd books. I got a bit of a preview of that relationship in the last book and I’m excited to see how their relationship develops. Personally, it sounds like it’s going to be a dream come true (for me!) and I can’t wait to see what happens with Decker.

4. 10 Blind Dates

If there’s one book that been on everyone’s radar this holiday season, it’s 10 Blind Dates by Ashley Elston. I’ve never read anything by Ashley Elston and I’m excited to see if I end up enjoying this. I know that it’s set during Christmas and features a girl who is getting over a breakup and the 10 blind dates her family set up for her. It sounds like a fun premise and I can’t wait to see if it lives up to the hype for me.

5. Blitzed (Playbook #3)

Geez Louise, I almost forgot to add this book. I read the 2nd book in the Playbook series and this is the only one that might knock it off the top spot. I know that this book follows one of the side characters from the first two books and I can’t wait to see her story. I’m not sure if it’s a second chance romance or hate-to-love. Either way, it’s Alexa Martin so I know I’m going to love it lmao.

Contemporary-A-Thon Weekend TBR

Hello friends and fellow book lovers! Earlier this week, I talked about my love for the Contemporary-A-Thon which is a read-a-thon that focuses on just reading contemporary books. Two of the hosts, Chelsea, and Julie decided to do a special round this year to commemorate them being friends for 3 years so they came up with a weekend version of the Contemporary-A-Thon.

The weekend round is taking place from November 22th until November 24th. Unlike the previous rounds, there aren’t any challenges. Instead, it’s basically your chance to read whatever you want as long as it’s contemporary. Since it’s only a weekend round, I’m going to try to keep my TBR pretty short and only focus on books that I really do want to read.

29568772. sy475

1. Her Naughty Holiday (Men at Work #2)

The first book on my TBR is one that I’ve eagerly been anticipating. I read the first book in the series last month and since this one is a Thanksgiving romance, this one is perfect for this time of year. I really enjoyed the previous book and I can only that this one is every bit as sweet and smutty as the last one. I know that both Julie and Chelsea really liked it, too so that’s an added bonus.

44643289. sy475

2. Hook Shot (Hoops #3)

The other book on my TBR is Hook Shot which is the 3rd book in the Hoops series. I read the 2nd book earlier this month and it’s made me want to read this one even more. What better time than a weekend read-a-thon? Originally, I wasn’t going to put this one on my TBR since it’s over 400 pages but I figured what the hell? If I end up reading both, then then I will have cleared them off my TBR which is what matters.

This book follows 2 of the side characters from the first two books and I’m anxious to see how their relationship develops. There was a small scene in the last book so I’m curious to see how everything plays out for them. I’m crossing my fingers that I end up enjoying it so I can continue on to her new series. 🙂

While this is a pretty short TBR, I’ll basically just be happy if I end up finishing Hook Shot because it’s such a long book. If I don’t get to Her Naughty Holiday, I won’t lose any sleep lmao. It would be nice to be able to get them both done, though. Anyways, those are the 2 books I plan on reading for the weekend edition of Contemporary-A-Thon. 🙂

November 2019 TBR

Hello friends and fellow book lovers! I can’t believe that it’s November and time for another reading month to start. It doesn’t feel like I’ll be making my best-of list next month lmao. Regardless, the year has almost come to a close so I’m deciding to do something a little bit different.

This month, I decided to participate in Kathy’s “Remember November” challenge. It’s basically all about remembering all the goals, lists or challenges you set up for yourself earlier in the year and trying to fulfill them. For me, I wrote a list of 10 books I wanted to read in 2019 which I’m not going to tackle but rather, focusing on my top 5 Tuesday post as inspiration.

In particular, I’m going to focus on my Top 5 Books I NEED to Read in 2019.  I did give it a valiant effort and read 2 of the 5 but I want to read the rest of them so let’s get into them and any other books I plan on reading!

35068632. sy475

1. Pride

This book has been on my radar forever and I’ve used every excuse in the book not to pick it up. Since looking at that post though, I’ve really wanted to read it. Thankfully, my library has both the e-book and the audiobook so I’ll have my pick. I think I might go with the audiobook since Elizabeth Acevedo narrates it which is guaranteed to be a great reading experience. Plus one of my fantasy football friends just read it and liked it so I’m taking her word plus Meeghan‘s for it. 😉

38720939. sy475

2. A Very Large Expanse of Sea

This is a book that got a lot of hype last year and since then, I’ve been eagerly anticipating reading it. Earlier this year, I tried listening to the audiobook but I think I just didn’t like the narrator so I returned it. With that being said, I plan on checking this out on ebook from my library. I know this book focuses on a Muslim teen in high school after the 9-11 attacks and it’s basically a coming-of-age story…I think. Regardless, it sounds like a powerful read.

38244389. sy475

3. A Heart in a Body in the World

As far as books on this list, this is one that I’m most excited yet nervous about. I’ve never read anything by Deb Caletti but I know this book follows a girl who is running to Washington DC from Washington state I believe to advocate for stricter gun law. I might be wrong, but I think that’s how everyone has described it. Everyone I’m friends with on Goodreads that reviewed it said about how powerful it is so I think it’ll be a good chilly November read.

41746595. sy475

4. Block Shot (Hoops #2)

If there’s one book I’ve been dragging my feet on, it’s this one. I read Long Shot in 2018 and I enjoyed it even though it was a tough read. However, I did take a break in the middle of Long Shot and ended up waiting a while to pick it back up. That’s part of the reason why I’m so hesitant about reading this one but I’m going to stop dragging my feet finally. In November, I’m going to read this and hopefully, love it. 😛

1162543. sy475

5. Breaking Dawn (Twilight #4)

Tentatively, I’m adding this one to my TBR because I know Ellyn and I are planning on reading it. What I don’t know is when so I could have already finished this by the time this post goes up. Either way, I wanted to include it since we’re planning on finishing the series before 2020 gets here. 🙂

Those are all the books I plan on reading in November and I’m super excited to finally get to these. I’m crossing my fingers that they all end up being solid reads.

October 2019 TBR

Hello friends and fellow book lovers! Today, I’m going to be talking about all the books I want to read in October. Honestly, this is going to be a pretty busy reading month for me as I have some buddy-reads planned with Ellyn and 2 spookier books that I’ve been saving from my physical TBR. Plus I want to try to listen to an audiobook this month since I’ve been missing that.

I was originally going to do a read-a-thon but I haven’t found one that I absolutely love or feel really compelled to do. At first, I thought that Mandy and Sha did theirs in October but now it’s in September so I missed out on that one but oh well. That being said, let’s get into the books I plan on reading. 😀

1. Eclipse

If you’ve been following me, then you know that Ellyn and I have been buddy-reading the Twilight series together. We took a little break in September but now we’re back and plan to read the 3rd book in the series. I think the two of us have really been enjoying our reread although our thoughts (and ratings!) have differed wildly. Either way, I’m excited to revisit this one and see how I feel about it now.

34851664. sy475

2. Briar U series

Speaking of buddy reads, I’m also going to be buddy-reading the Briar U series with Ellyn. She suggested that we buddy-read this series together a while ago and I was down immediately. I’ve only read The Deal by Elle Kennedy so I’m excited to read some of her newer books. If I remember correctly, we’re reading all 3 books and I’m not sure if there’s going to be more released or not but either way, this is right up my alley.

3. Sorcery of Thorns

Since it’s October, this is one of the books I decided to save since the cover looks pretty spooky. I’m not normally a fantasy reader, but my friend Lysette got me this book for my birthday. Even though she knows I’m not a big fantasy reader, she said that I would probably enjoy this. Of course, I’m going to give it a chance and see if I end up liking this book. It’s a chunky book too so we’ll see how it goes with the other books I’m reading.

4. Capturing the Devil

Finally, I’m going to pick up Capturing the Devil. I don’t mention it much, but the Stalking Jack the Ripper is one of my favorite series and I’m excited to see how the series concludes. I read Becoming the Dark Prince last month and really enjoyed it so I’m anxious to see what happens in the final installment. This is easily my most anticipated read this month and I hope it ends up being as great as the other installments.

5. The Wallflower Wager

The last book on my October TBR is a hold that I have at the library. I put a hold on this book forever ago and it’s finally coming off this month. Girl Meets Duke is easily my favorite series by Tessa Dare and I’m super excited to read more of it. The premise seems super fun and I can’t wait to see what happens in this book. Maybe if I love it, I’ll do a re-read of the rest of the series. 🙂

Those are the 5 books I have on my TBR for October. Technically it’s more since Ellyn and I are reading the whole series, but you know what I mean. I also have another book from the library but I’m not sure when I’m going to finish that one. Either way, those are all the books I plan on reading in October!

September 2019 TBR

Hello friends and fellow book lovers! Even though September is already underway, I knew I had to post a TBR. To be completely honest, I’ve already finished one book this month and I plan on starting another one. However, I knew I wanted to post a TBR even though it’s going to be short since Contemporary-A-Thon is at the end of this month. I’ll do a separate TBR for that. 🙂

Anways, I know that this is going to be a short TBR so let’s get into it!

1. A Question of Holmes

As I mentioned in my Top 5 Tuesday post, this is the only book we have left in the series and I’m super HYPED to finish this series. We read the rest of the series in August so I’ll be excited to see how it concludes. Personally, I have pretty high expectations since I really enjoyed the 3rd book. Then again, we’ll see what Brittany Cavallaro decides to do 😛

42455873. sy475

2. The Wedding Party

A few books I have on hold at the library are finally coming off and the one I currently have out is The Wedding Party. I’ll be honest that I have a bit of a love-hate relationship with Jasmine Guillory’s books. So far, I disliked The Wedding Date and thought The Proposal was alright so I’m not sure how I’ll feel about The Wedding Party. I’m crossing my fingers that this one will finally be the one for me, though.

46184206. sy475

3. Becoming the Dark Prince

The last book on my TBR is one that I’ve been putting off for absolutely no reason as I love this series. However, the conclusion of the Stalking Jack the Ripper series is coming out so I want to be finished with everything else including the novellas. Actually, this is the only thing I have left to read before Capturing the Devil so I really need to get on this and I think I have the perfect opportunity for it when I go to visit my friend next weekend.

This is a relatively short TBR but those are all the books I plan on reading in September not including Contemporary-A-Thon reads. I’m super excited about Contemporary-A-Thon and I can’t wait to participate as I did in the last three rounds, I think.

Anyways, I’d love to know your thoughts if you’ve read any of these books! 😀
