July 2020 TBR (Pop Culture Readathon)

Hello friends and fellow book lovers! Originally, I was stumped on what to read this month and then the Pop Culture Readathon showed up on my Twitter feed. If you didn’t know, it’s a month-long readathon with different sections featuring book prompts for classic 90’s movies. The graphics are amazing and they immediately made me want to join. Thankfully, I have a lot of books on my Kindle to read and some library reads I still want to get to.

This readathon is being hosted by Whitney and Lorryn. They have more info on the official Twitter if you’re looking for particular rules. Basically, you pick which team you want to be on and try to fill in the bingo board. I don’t normally do a full blackout with bingo so I’m going to try to get two bingo with my reads. 🙂

The board I chose to go with is “The Adult Table” which features adult 90’s movies. I’ve watched most of them so this was perfect for me. I also might try to get a bingo on the “Teen Dream” one but I’m not sure yet so here’s the bingo board and the books I plan on reading for it.

Poetic Justice: Read a book written in verse

35398627. sy475

The book I chose for this prompt is Other Words For Home by Jasmine Warga. I’ve read one of Jasmine Warga’s other books and didn’t really enjoy it. However, I want to give her work another try. This fits perfectly with the prompt and is a relatively short audiobook to boot. Hopefully, it ends up being the book to make me a Warga fan.

The First Wives Club: Read a book from your fave genre

49976087

I feel as though I’ve been waiting my entire life for this book. I preordered it from Barnes & Noble and have yet to receive yet. It’s basically been in the mail for over a week and still has yet to get to my door. There is no way I couldn’t include it on this TBR and tbh I’m just ready to read it. I have a HUGE post coming out this month focused on this book and it’s just annoying that I don’t have it yet. Either way, this was the first book that came to mind when seeing this prompt.

Pretty Woman: Read a book with a gorgeous cover

52701779. sy475

This originally wasn’t the book I chose but I read my pick at the end of June. Either way, I decided to use Professional Pleasure by Tia Love. I’ve never read anything by Tia Love before and I absolutely adore this cover. This sounds like it’s going to be fun and smutty with a gorgeous love interest as pictured on the cover lmao.

Black American Princess: Read a book with royalty

32871331. sy475

I’m not sure if this book actually counts, but it follows a lord and a lady so I’m pretty sure that means royalty or close to it. Either way, I bought this book for 99 cents on Kindle and I’ve been eager to pick it up. It’s a historical romance and I’m pretty sure it’s set in a sex club. Nevertheless, I’m excited to finally pick it up and see if it’s a series I’d like to give a chance.

As for my next bingo, I’m just going to try for the line right under my first bingo as I really enjoy those prompts so let’s get into the other 4 books I plan on reading. 🙂

It’s Friday, Craig: Read a book with 150 pages or less

33140405. sy475

Next up is another freebie from Kindle. I’m pretty sure this book is told through emails between an employee and her boss. It’s another short novella length read but I want to try to get most of the books on there read. I’ve never read anything from Whitney G before but I know she’s a Black author. Not sure about the race of any of the characters, though. Either way, it should be a quick and fun read.

Death Becomes Her: Read a backlist book

21964811

I’m pretty sure I read the first book in this series either last month or the month before but I knew I wanted to continue it. This book was published in 2014 so it’s definitely a backlist title. This book follows the same characters from the first book but I think it’s a time jump and we see their relationship now versus then. Either way, I’m excited to see what happens with these two.

Titanic: Read a historical fiction novel

53405694. sy475

Ever since I read Lara Kinsey’s other books last month, I’ve been itching to pick up more and this book seems perfect. I’m pretty sure it’s a historical romance set in the 1920’s and it features bisexual characters. Honestly, I’ve liked everything I’ve read from Lara Kinsey so I’m excited to pick this up. I only hope that she decides to publish more in the future.

Sister Act: Read the first book in a series

44568731. sy475

The next book is one I bought on Kindle and haven’t read yet. I’m pretty sure this book follows two people who meet when they’re seatmates on an airplane and they have a romance. All I know is that it was free and I absolutely loved the cover. This was an easy pick for this one and hopefully, I’ll want to continue the series after I read this.

Credit to Pure Imagination Blog

Alright, those are my picks for the Pop Culture Readathon. I might try to squeeze in some other books and try to get bingo on other boards. For now though, I want to try to clear out my Kindle and read some library books. My Kindle is seriously getting full and I have to stop lmao. Hopefully I have another solid reading month and considering I’m excited for all these books, I should 😛

Before I wrap things up, I’m also planning to do the “PSU” readalong which is hosted by Jess, Mina and Melissa. I’ve never read the Palm South University series by Kandi Steiner but it sounds like it’s going to be the perfect summer binge read. If you want to know more, be sure to check out Jess’ Instagram post about it.

June 2020 TBR (The Olympic Games Readathon)

Hello friends and fellow book lovers! For this month, I was originally going to do a Pride read-a-thon but I also wanted to do the Olympic Games Readathon, too. With that being said, I’m going to be reading only books either by authors who are LGBTIA or with characters who are on the LGBTIA spectrum for this readathon. There might be some library holds that come off but these are my only reading plans. Lol

Before getting started, you can watch Ishi’s video where she goes over everything. You can also find the readathon on Twitter, too. The video is very detailed so if you’re looking for answers to any questions, I’d check there first. With all that being said, I’m going to be on Team Apollo so let’s get into the challenges and the books I plan on reading for them. 🙂

Team Apollo Challenges

  • Music To My Ears: Listen to an audiobook
  • Healing: Read a book you know will make you happy
  • As the god of prophecy, Apollo can often predict the future. Read a book you predict will be a five-star read.
  • Read a book that starts with the letter “A.”
  • The Twin Archers: Apollo and Artemis look out for each other. Complete a prompt that honors Artemis.

Music To My Ears: Listen to an audiobook

41473872
For my audiobook pick, I’m going with I Wish You All The Best by Mason Deaver and I’m super hyped to finally get to this. I remember this book getting a lot of hype last year but didn’t pick it up. Even though I’ve read books by non-binary authors before (as far as I know), I know that Mason Deaver is an author a lot of people like. Plus Mason has gotten a ton of hype on Twitter so I’ve been hearing about them forever so I’m excited to see what this book is like.

Healing: Read a book you know will make you happy

51573966. sx318 sy475

In April, I read the first book in this series and I’m super excited to read this one. This series deserves so much hype and no one’s talking about it. It’s about a group of women in a band and I’m pretty sure they’re all queer. The first book was a relationship between Vero and Billie while this one focuses on Domino and her romance. From reading the synopsis, I know it’s an f/f romance and I liked the previous book so I’m sure it’ll make me happy.

As the god of prophecy, Apollo can often predict the future. Read a book you predict will be a five-star read.

51054227. sy475

The next book I want to read is one a lot of people have been hyping up. I’ve never read anything by Jack Harbon but this book sounds delightful. I’m pretty sure it’s an m/m romance between two people in a book club. Those are all of my buzz words so I’m already on board. Either way, I’ve been holding onto this one and I CANNOT wait to finally pick it up.

Read a book that starts with the letter “A”

49498260. sx318 sy475

The next book is one I stumbled upon while looking at my Kindle. I’m pretty sure this book is about a girl who poses as her gay friend’s girlfriend but ends up having feelings for his sister. I read a similar trope in a different book and enjoyed it. I think it’s just enough taboo without going overboard (not that I don’t enjoy that lmao) but this sounds really good. Obviously, it’s an f/f romance but I’m curious to see what role the brother plays in the story.

The Twin Archers: Apollo and Artemis look out for each other. Complete a prompt that honors Artemis.

The prompt I’m doing is “Read a book while the moon is up” or read a book at night

37534577

When I decided on the last prompt, I knew I wanted to read a graphic novel. The graphic novel I chose was Check, Please! Book 1: #Hockey which I’ve heard a lot about. I know it features a hockey player who has a baking Youtube channel and I’m pretty sure the main character is gay. I might be wrong, but from looking on Goodreads, that’s what I’m gathering. Either way, this book looks really cute and I’m excited to read it.

Aside from these books, there are a few I plan on reading. Most of them are queer but let’s get into it.

  • The Babysitter by Jack Harbon
  • In Bloom by Allie Keane
  • Take A Hint, Dani Brown by Talia Hibbert (if my preorder comes in on time!)

No doubt I’m going to read more but I wanted to talk about my Olympic Games TBR along with the other queer books I plan on reading. Hopefully, I can finish all of these before the month ends as long as I don’t have a ton of books come off hold like I did in May. Lol

Mini Contemporary-A-Thon TBR

Hello friends and fellow book lovers! I know what you’re thinking and it’s that I have a post going on Thursday?? Honestly, I’ve been liking adding an extra post on during the week but that’s not what we’re here to talk about. Chelsea from ChelseaDollingReads posted a video in which she discussed having a mini Contemporary-A-Thon this upcoming weekend. Basically, I knew I had to write up a TBR post for it so here we are.

Also, this post is so chaotic lmao but anyways. The dates for the mini CAT are May 22th through May 25th and it includes 3 prompts. However, you don’t have to do the prompts as long as you’re just reading contemporary books. Either way, let’s get into the prompts and the books I plan on reading for them.

Prompts

  • Read a book with peach/orange/pink on the cover
  • Read a book under 250 pages
  • Read a book you think will be fun

Read a book with peach/orange/pink on the cover

32333007. sy475

If you’ve been following me since the beginning of Contemporary-A-Thon, I almost always read a volume of Giant Days. This time, I’m on volume 5 and I’m excited to see what the girls are up to. I think this series is so much fun and it’ll be the perfect thing to write during a mini version of the regular CAT.

Read a book under 250 pages

22425571

The book I chose for this prompt is Strictly Professional by Christina C. Jones. Spoiler alert for my wrap-up but I’ve been reading a lot of CCJ this month. As soon as I saw this prompt, I knew I had to include one of her books. She does such a great job of developing characters and their relationships in such a short time. Plus I’ve been wanting to read more via Kindle Unlimited since I’m paying for it and all. Lol

Read a book you think will be fun

39247954. sy475

The book I’m going with for this prompt is Grumpy Fake Boyfriend by Jackie Lau. There is just something about the title that makes this sound fun. I’ve never read anything by Jackie Lau either so we’ll see if I end up enjoying it. My library has been buying her books a lot recently and I’ve been wanting to check them out. If anything, this round came at the perfect time. 🙂

Anyways, those are the 3 books I plan on reading for the mini Contemporary-A-Thon. I have off work on Saturday and Sunday so I should have time to read them all. Then again, I might even have time to read a little more. Either way,  I’m hoping I get to all three of these books and end up loving them. 🙂

May 2020 TBR

Hello friends and fellow book lovers! Thus far this year, I’ve read a lot of books and I think I’m ready to pump the brakes. As exciting as it is, I don’t want to get burnt-out so my focus is going to be shifted a little bit. Rather than focusing on books I’ve never read, I want to return to some old favorites. Hopefully, it’ll help me avoid a slump if it does come especially after the multiple 3-star reads I had last month.

With that being said, I do want to tick at least one book off my 20 books to read in the 2020 list. Other than that, I’m either going to be rereading old favorites or read books for an upcoming post. I have a post coming in June…possibly July but I’ve been working hard on it. Anyways, let’s get into the books I want to read in May!

23314731

1. Truth or Beard (Winston Brothers #1)

Last year, I read my first book by Penny Reid and hated it. However, I do want to give her another chance starting with this series. I know a lot of bloggers and booktubers enjoy it so I figured why not? Also, I’ve been seeing Shanah loving these series so it gave me hope lol. Either way, this book sounds like it’s going to be something I’ll enjoy.

33275690

2. Foolish Hearts

No list of old favorites would be complete without an Emma Mills book. Of all the books of hers I’ve read, Foolish Hearts is easily my top favorite. Since it’s “god-tier” to me, it’s only right I’d reread it again. This time is going to be my third time rereading it and I’m still super excited. This book is just so delightful and makes me so happy. I don’t think I’ll ever get sick of it lol.

25184383

3. Kill The Boy Band

I’m not sure if you’re sensing a theme here but I love books about boybands. Last year, I read Kill The Boy Band and enjoyed it. Last month, I read Goldy Moldavksy’s other book and I want to revisit her debut. This time, I might listen to it on audio since I read it physically the previous time. Either way, I’m hyped to reread this book since I think Goldy’s coming out with a new book in September.

37585029

4. Intercepted (Playbook #1)

This is arguably my favorite romance book of all-time and I’ve never re-read it. I love Alexa Martin so much and I’ve been wanting to reread this book forever. I want to see if it’s still one of my favorites. Speaking of my favorite things, this is an NFL romance and with the NFL possibly being pushed back, it’ll give me my sports fill. I doubt I’ll go the audiobook route for this one as I enjoy the physical book.

38424

5. Kristy’s Great Idea

A few months ago, I did an analysis of my childhood favorites but one thing I didn’t mention is I’ve had this graphic novel for over 10 years and haven’t read it. Since my library has all the ones currently published, what better time than now? I don’t know much it’ll differ from the original source but I’m sure I’ll enjoy it. Either way, I’m super excited to read it.

I’m sure some of my library holds will come off but these five are the books I’m planning on reading in May. Thankfully, almost all of them are short so they should be pretty low-pressure which is what I need. Considering I’m almost halfway done with my Goodreads challenge though, I don’t have much to worry about. Lol

Weekend Smutathon 2020 TBR

Hello friends and fellow book lovers! This is actually my 2nd post of the day but it’s for an interesting reason. Earlier this month, Riley and Lainey announced they’d be hosting a weekend smutathon. Of course, this is because of all of us being quarantined but unlike a regular smutathon, it’s only April 25th and 26th.

Another difference is this round doesn’t have any prompts. Rather, it’s all about reading as many smutty romance books as you can. They do have an optional group book by Katee Robert called Theirs for The Night which is free on Kindle. You can check out their Twitter if you want more info but let’s get into my TBR picks.

Since it’s only two days, I plan on reading 4 books so 2 books a day. If I remember correctly, I know I work 8-2 on the 25th but not sure about the 26th. Either way, I should be able to have some time to read on those days. Even if I have to work 2-8 on Sunday, I should have time to read before and after work. 🙂

40389498. sy475

1. Theirs For the Night

As mentioned above, I decided to read the group book. I’ve read Katee Robert’s other book Desperate Measures and enjoyed so it doesn’t surprise the ladies picked this. I’m pretty sure this is an m/f/m romance which sounds amazing. I haven’t read many throples so this is going to be something different for me. Either way, I know that Robert writes good smut so I’m excited.

50729230. sy475

2. A Pinch of Sugar

The next book I want to read is A Pinch of Sugar by Jessa Kane. I saw Chelsea from ChelseaDollingReads talk about this and it made me interested. If I remember right, this a romance between a baker who is on a baking reality show and one of the judges. I guess I shouldn’t say a romance but rather, they bang and that’s about it. Either way, it’s fun and smutty so it had to be on the list.

50894027. sx318 sy475

3. Marshmallow

Keeping with the Chelsea-theme, I’m going with another book she read and this time, it’s Marshmallow by Megan Wade. I’ve never read anything by Megan Wade, but I’ve been meaning to. I’m pretty sure this book is about a plus-sized model and the relationship she has with a photographer? I might be wrong but once, it’s super short and smutty so it was a must-add to my TBR.

51338615. sy475

4. Pizza My Heart

The last book I want to read is one I found when browsing on my Kindle. It’s part of a longer series and I think they’re just short smutty reads. I’m not sure what this book even focuses on. I’m pretty sure it’s about a girl who works at a pizza restaurant though so the title makes sense. It fits with my theme of short and smutty so it was an easy add.

All I know is I want to read some smutty books and forget I only read and work. I mean not that I’d be doing anything if we weren’t in quarantine lmao. Either way, those are the books I plan on reading for the weekend smutathon 😀

OWLS Magical Readathon 2020 TBR

Hello friends and fellow book lovers! Welcome to my Friday post and this week, I’m going to be talking about the books I plan on reading for the OWLs. I know this readathon has been around for a few years but this year, I decided to participate. If you don’t know what the O.W.L.S. magical readathon is, then I’ll try to explain it as best as I can.

Created by Book Roast, it’s basically the closest any of us will get to being actual students at Hogwarts. Based on the exams from the Harry Potter series, this is a readathon in which you read a certain number of books to correlate with your chosen career and then later in the year, we take our NEWTs. What makes this readathon so different is that you have to read a book for every single exam, no doubling up. I feel like I’m explaining this poorly so if you want more info, watch G’s video.

Before getting into the career I chose, here is the guide with the careers on it and then here is the guide for the prompts 🙂 For me, I chose the career of being a writer/journalist which isn’t a big surprise so let’s get into the prompts for my career and the books I plan on reading. 😀

To become a writer/journalist, I need to complete 3 O.W.L.S.: History of Magic, Muggle Studies and one subject of my choosing. I chose Arithmancy since I thought I could have a lot of fun and do something different with the prompt G chose. With that being said, let’s get into the prompts and the books I chose.

History of Magic: Witch Hunts (Book Featuring Witches/Wizards)

38856385

For “History of Magic,” I chose The Babysitters Coven by Kate Williams. I remember hearing about this book a bit last year but nothing since. Considering I read The Babysitters Club in February and loved it, I figured this was a good one. I really don’t know much about this book but it features witches so it was an easy pick.

Muggle Studies: Book From the Perspective of a Muggle (Contemporary)

38316557. sy475

For this one, I had a hard time, trying to narrow it down. Since contemporary is my favorite genre, I have a million and ten books to choose from. I decided to go with I Wanna Text You Up which is the second book in the Texting series. I read the first one in January and would like to finish it before the end of the year. I really like Teagan Hunter’s writing style and the way she crafts her characters so I’m excited.

Arithmancy: Magical Qualities of 2, Balance/Opposites (Read something outside of your favorite genre)

13152

As I mentioned above, contemporary is my favorite genre so I knew I had to read something fantasy. I went back-and-forth with this prompt before eventually asking my interest for a recommendation. He doesn’t read much so I knew he’d give me something I’d never normally pick up. He recommended The Angel Experiment and I said sure because according to Goodreads, this is a fantasy/sci-fi read. Plus the audiobook is narrated by Evan Rachel Wood so that’s something to look forward to.

Those are the 3 books I plan on reading to complete my OWLS in April. No doubt I’ll end up reading more than that but I can’t think of any off the top of my head. Either way, I’m sure my wrap-up will be more than 3 books. Hopefully, we all pass our OWLs and can move on to the NEWTs in August. 🙂

March 2020 TBR

Hello friends and fellow book lovers! It’s hard to believe that I’m working on a TBR for March since it feels like just yesterday, I was prepping for Contemporary-A-Thon. Either way, I’m excited to talk about the books I plan on reading in March. So far this year, I’ve participated in 2 read-a-thons and I’m ready to slow it down and read at my own pace so let’s get into the books I hope to read in March. 😀

26032912. sy475

1. The Queen of Nothing

The first book on my TBR had to be The Queen of Nothing. I’ve been putting this book off for a few months because of read-a-thons since I wanted to give it the full attention that it deserved. So far, I’ve mostly seen some lackluster reviews so I’m a little bit anxious about finally picking it up. However, I’m trying to not let that cloud my judgment and give the book a fair chance.

45024651

2. The Kingmaker

The second book on my list is another one with a royal title. I’ve heard pretty good things about this one and as a fan of Kennedy Ryan, I’m excited to check it out. I’m pretty sure this is a romance between an activist and a senator’s son…I think? I might be wrong there but I know that it’s going to be a pretty emotional and hard-hitting book as most of her books are. This is also a book that’s on my Top 20 books to read in 2020 list so I’m always excited to knock another one-off.

35564535. sy475

3. Notes From My Captivity

The next book I plan on reading is Notes from My Captivity. I’m honestly not sure about this book because not a lot of my GR friends have read it. Either way, it sounds like it’s going to be a more dark/hard-hitting read. That must be what I’m in the mood for since most of these books share a similar tone. Plus it’ll be nice to knock this one off my 20 books to read in 2020 list, too.

28220826. sy475

4. When The Moon Was Ours

In January, Ellyn picked my TBR and included Wild Beauty which was an enjoyable read so it’s no surprise that she picked this one out for us to buddy-read in March. I don’t know much about this book, but I’m excited to jump into it. I’ve only read Wild Beauty by Anna-Marie McLemore so I’m hoping that I enjoy this book as much as their first.

Those are all the books I actively plan on reading in March. No doubt that I’ll end up reading more but this is a good place to start.

February 2020 TBR including Contemporary-A-Thon

Hello friends and fellow book lovers! This post is extremely exciting for me as there is going to be another round of Contemporary-A-Thon. If you’ve been following me for a while, then you’ll know that I’ve participated in almost every single round. I don’t think I participated in the first round but since then, I’ve participated every time. As you also might know, they usually have a round in February.

Before getting into my Contemporary-A-Thon reads though, I wanted to feature my normal February TBR and then I’ll get into the books I plan on reading for CAT along with the challenges, dates..etc. With that being said, let’s get into the books I have on my TBR for February!

44569988. sy475

1. Untouchable

The first book I plan on reading in February is Untouchable by Talia Hibbert. If you saw my January wrap-up, you know that I’ve been devouring her books. This book follows the sister of the MC from book one and from what I can tell, it’s going to be her romance with her boss. Either way, I love this series so I’m going to read it asap.

34839067. sy475

2. The Unrequited

Since it’s Valentine’s Day, I decided to throw in a handful of romance books and this one is definitely out of my comfort zone. It’s a dark romance about a girl who gets in a forbidden relationship with her professor and things escalate from there. I don’t want to know much else but honestly, I’m excited to see how I feel about reading a dark romance. Plus it’s on my 20 books to read in 2020 list as well.

45859105. sx318

3. The Guy On The Right

If you watch any romance booktubers, then you know how popular this series is. This is the first book in the series and I’m pretty sure it’s a friends-to-lovers romance. Since that’s my favorite trope, I knew I had to feature it on my 20 books to read in 2020 so I’m hoping it ends up being a new favorite.

39988

4. Matilda

These next two books are also on my 20 books to read in 2020 list. Personally, I’ve never read Matilda but I know that my mom recently read it with her class. Ever since then, I’ve become super excited to read it. I know she said it’s different from the movie, but regardless, I’m still hopeful and think it’s going to be a fun one.

With those out of the way, let’s get into my Contemporary-A-Thon reads. Before I get started though, the Contemporary-A-Thon is running from Feb 10th to Feb 16th. It’s being hosted by Chelsea, Julie, and Natasha. This round is a bit of a throwback round as they’re using prompts that have all been used in previous rounds.

The Challenges:

  • Read a contemporary book with green on the cover
  • Read a contemporary from a new-to-you author
  • Read a diverse contemporary
  • Read a backlist contemporary
  • Read a dark/hard-hitting contemporary
  • Read a contemporary with an illustrated cover
  • Read a contemporary beloved by a member of the book community (and shout out the creator!)

1. Read a book with green on the cover

44281049

If you know me, then this should come as no surprise. As soon as I saw this prompt, I knew that Lucky Caller was an amazing fit. Considering that Emma Mills is easily my favorite contemporary author, there’s no surprise that I’m excited to read this book. I was a bit disappointed in her last release but I’m crossing my fingers that I LOVE this one.

2. Read a Contemporary from a New-To-You Author

50150135. sy475

In coming up with a book for this one, I decided to look at a ton of romance books that were on Kindle Unlimited. In looking for one, I stumbled upon this book which is called Never Him. It’s an enemies-to-lovers romance and it’s relatively short so I figured why not? Plus this is definitely an entirely new-to-me author as I’ve never even heard of her before now.

3. Read a diverse contemporary

The book I chose for this prompt is Bad for the Boss by Talia Hibbert. As evidenced by the blurb under the title, it’s a Black woman, Asian man romance. Since I’ve been making my way through her backlist, I knew I had to feature one of her romances. If this one doesn’t come off hold though, I’ll just sub in one of her other books!

4. Read a backlist contemporary

40139193

I recently got this book as a Kindle deal and since then, I’ve been trying to find the perfect time to read it. This book came out in 2019 so it’s now a backlist title and one I’ve heard a good amount about. While I don’t want to get into specifics, I’m really excited to see if this book lives up to the hype and if I end up enjoying it.

5. Read a dark/hard-hitting contemporary

I had a hard time, coming up with a book for this prompt. Maybe it’s just because I don’t read many dark/hard-hitting books and or most of them are REALLY long. The book I chose for this prompt is Born, Darkly which I’m pretty sure is a dark romance between a serial killer and the psychologist who is studying him. Honestly, it sounds like it’s going to be messed up along with being both dark and hard-hitting.

6. Read a contemporary with an illustrated cover

30312557. sy475

Every round of CAT, I read a volume of Giant Days and this time, I’m going to be reading volume 4. I remember really loving Vol 3 last year so I’m excited to get into this world and see how the girls are doing.

7. Read a contemporary beloved by a member of the community and shout them out!

For this last prompt, I’m going with I Love You So Mochi by Sarah Kuhn. This book was gifted to me by one of my very best friends, Lysette so I knew I had to include it for this prompt. I honestly don’t know much about this book but the cover is super cute so that’s all I need to know. Plus Lysette loves it so I’m hoping I love it too 😀

Those are all the books I plan on reading in February. It’s super ambitious I know but I’m crossing my fingers that I get all of my Contemporary-A-Thon reads in. I’m excited about almost all of those books so I’m hoping I have another successful round.

Anyways, those are all the books I plan on reading in February along with my Contemporary-A-Thon TBR. If you’re participating in CAT, I’d love to know what you’re reading and if you’d be interested in a buddy-read 😀

January 2020 TBR in which Ellyn picks my TBR

Hello friends and fellow book lovers! Welcome to my second TBR post of this week and this time, we’re talking about my January TBR besides the Smutathon. To kick off the year, I’m doing something a little different and letting Ellyn pick my TBR. If you don’t know, Ellyn is a fellow blogger (@allonsythornraxxbooks) and she’s one of my favorite people so we decided to pick out each other’s TBRs.

She decided to pick out 4 books for me and honestly, all but one of them is in my comfort zone. The other three are books that I would have never picked up. However, I’m excited to give them a try and see how similar Ellyn and my’s tastes really are. Anyways, let’s get into the books she picked out for me.

1. Let’s Get Textual by Teagan Hunter

The first book that I’m featuring is Let’s Get Textual which is the book that I’m sure I’m going to enjoy. I’ve never read anything by Teagan Hunter before but I know this is a texting romance I think. Either way, this is the one book that I’m sure I’m going to enjoy and I plan on reading it during Smuathon. Hopefully, this gets checked off my list sooner rather than later.

2. Caraval by Stephanie Garber

The second book she picked for me is one that I would’ve never picked for myself. I’ve heard a lot of hype around Caraval and I generally avoided it. The premise didn’t sound that appealing to me, but these are Ellyn’s choices. I know that this is one of her favorite books and she rated it 4-stars so I’m excited to see if it ends up being a surprising read for me. Either way, I’m cautiously optimistic about this one lmao.

3. The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan

Next up is a book that I likely wouldn’t have picked up on my own. I think I was a bit older when this series came out so I just never picked it up. I’ve heard a lot of good things about it and I know that it’s incredibly beloved. While I don’t know much about Greek mythology, I’m crossing my fingers that I enjoy this. Personally, I’m not sure I would’ve ever read this without Ellyn picking it so maybe I’ll find a new favorite series.

4. Wild Beauty by Anna-Marie McLemore

The last book that Ellyn picked out for me is Wild Beauty and I feel like I’m the last person in the blogging world who hasn’t read this. I know that this is magical realism and features one of Ellyn’s favorite love interests (I think??) I just know that she’s been telling me to read this forever and now she controls my TBR so she can just make me now lmao. Nevertheless, I’m excited to pick this one up!

Those are all the books I plan on reading in January 2020. I’m sure that I’ll read more but those are my must-reads. 😀

Smutathon Winter 2020 TBR

Hello friends and fellow book lovers! In December, Riley and Lainey announced that there was going to be another round of Smutathon. This round is going from January 4-11 and it includes a mini bingo board with prompts on it. Personally, I’m going to try for a blackout even though I’m not sure if that’s going to happen. Either way, I’m going to try so let’s get into it!

I’m going to try to find a book for each challenge and hopefully, I end up reading all of them. 🙂

Enemies to Lovers

This is actually the only one I wasn’t able to come up with a book for. I might end up finding something later but we’ll see lmao.

New-To-You Author

For the first book I plan on reading, I’m going with Desperate Measures by Katee Robert. I haven’t read anything by Katee Robert before so I honestly have no idea what to expect from it. I know that it’s Jasmine x Jafar smut so I’m anxious to see what I think of it. I know that a lot of people read it in the last round of Smutathon so I’m excited.

The book I chose for this prompt is Let’s Get Textual which was recommended to me by Ellyn. I haven’t read anything by Teagan Hunter before and I’m excited to see if I like it as much as Ellyn did. I have a post coming up later in the week

2019 Release

47327358. sy475

This is another book that I’ve heard talked about a lot and that’s Whipped by Jenika Snow. This is a SUPER short novella that follows a romance between a business owner and a plus-sized woman I think. I don’t know much more about it but since it’s 160 pages, it’ll be a quick read.

Forbidden Romance

39555142. sy475

For this one, I’m going with Birthday Girl by Penelope Douglas. I’ve never read anything by Penelope Douglas but this book sounds so interesting. It’s a romance between a girl and her boyfriend’s dad so I’d say that it’s forbidden or at least, unconventional. I’ve been hearing about this book for years so I’m excited to finally give it a chance.

Fake Dating/Marriage

48667576. sy475

At first, this was going to be another blank prompt. Since I joined Kindle Unlimited, I decided to do some digging and I found The Loner’s Lady by Jessa Kane. While the main couple doesn’t fake date, it is featured in the story. I think that’s close enough as it still features the trope. Either way, it’s super short so I figured why not?

LGBTQ+

44528370. sy475

I had a lot of options for this one but eventually, I figured out what I wanted to read. I’ve heard good things about Chelsea M. Cameron’s f/f romances so I’m going to finally give one a try. I have the audiobook of this one so I’ll probably try to knock it out on one of my days off. I haven’t heard much about it so I’m curious to see if I like it. I think it’s an enemies-to-lovers romance so technically it could double up 😛

Workplace Romance

31304760. sy475

Going along with authors I haven’t read, I’m going to be reading Penny Wylder’s book Filthy Boss as this is another one I found on KU. Honestly, this wasn’t my first pick but I want short books so this is going to have to do. Regardless, I have a feeling that it’s going to be equal parts sweet yet steamy which I enjoy.

Out of Comfort Zone

25128811. sx318

The last book on my list is Ice Planet Barbarians by Ruby Dixon. I know that almost everyone in the romance booktube/book blogging world has read this so I knew I had to feature it. I know that it’s alien smut and some minor plot details but that’s all I want to know.

Those are the 8 books I have on my TBR for SmutAThon. I’m crossing my fingers that I get to all of them but we’ll see what happens. Honestly, I’d be happy to get to half of them lmao as it’s a new year. Regardless, these are my tentative plans for SmutAThon 😀
