Quarterly Non-Bookish Faves (April, May and June 2020)

Hello friends and fellow book lovers! I quit doing my Non-Bookish favorites monthly and instead moved them to a quarterly thing. It’s mostly because I didn’t have enough content to talk about from month-to-month. By doing them every three months, I have a lot of stuff built up to talk about. Anyways, I have a lot of stuff I’d like to talk about so let’s get into them.

Movies

Onward

I actually watched this movie pretty directly after I wrote my last post. Onward was one I watched due to my ~interest~ and I really liked it. It was unlike any of the other Pixar films but it was great. I feel like this movie is super underrated and it’s such a lovely story about brothers. Easily one of my new favorite Pixar movies!

Happiness Continues

Once again, I’m sure no one is surprised by this. The Jonas Brothers released their tour documentary and I was hyped about it. It truly felt like being at their concert again and it made me happy. It also made me super emotional which isn’t surprising. I loved this and I think about it constantly. Plus the vocals in this were out-of-this-world which is just normal Jonas Brothers.

TV

What We Do In The Shadows

One show I kept up with amidst quarantine was What We Do in The Shadows. I feel like this is such a unique show. It’s a comedy about vampires and it’s basically the shenanigans they get into. As much as I enjoyed Season 1, I thought that Season 2 was even better. I’m excited to see what happens in Season 3 of this series.

Never Have I Ever

Another show I watched during quarantine was Never Have I Ever. This is a show produced by Mindy Kaling and it’s about a girl who is dealing with the grief of losing her father while trying to do teenage things. I really loved this show and I especially loved the addition of John McEnroe as the narrator.

Solar Opposites

The next show I binged was Solar Opposites on Hulu. This was created by Justin Roiland who created Rick and Morty. It reminds me a lot of Rick and Morty but I thought it was a lot of fun. It was a super quick watch and had a stellar voice cast. I’m excited to see what Season 2 of the show tackles.

The Last Dance

I feel like I’m a broken record since a lot of people I know were watching this show and talking about it. I finally decided to buckle down and watch it. I absolutely loved it as it gave me an inside look into Michael Jordan’s life while he was a part of the Chicago Bulls. It was also interesting to learn more about the others on the team especially Steve Kerr. Even if you’re not a sports fan, I highly recommend this if you like documentaries.

Don’t Trust The B in Apartment 23

The show I most recently finished binging was Don’t Trust The B in Apartment 23. This show aired in 2012 and was cancelled after the second season wrapped. While some of the jokes wouldn’t air now, I absolutely loved this show. The main character Chloe gave absolutely no fucks and she was pretty unlikable. However, I loved watching her growth and the addition of James Van Der Beek as himself was great. This show is such a delight and I wish it wouldn’t have ended so soon.

Music

Morgan Wallen

One of my newest favorite musicians is Morgan Wallen. I’ve heard about Morgan Wallen but haven’t listened to him until recently. After hearing a few of his songs, I’m absolutely obsessed. There’s just something about this voice that I love and I cannot stop listening to him. My favorite song of his has to be his cover of Cover Me Up if you’re looking for a place to start.

Big Time Rush

My next musical fave has to be Big Time Rush. Since people have been talking about them reuniting, I’ve been listening to them non-stop. I used to absolutely love them back in the college and I still really love their music. Every time their music comes on, it makes me so happy.

Jonas Brothers

No list of my musical faves would ever be complete with the Jonas Brothers. They actually released two songs during quarantine. Between the two, I enjoyed Five More Minutes more than X. I feel like that’s an unpopular opinion, but I really love both of those songs. No surprise here, though 😛

Let’s get into some songs I enjoyed during these past few months. 😀

  • “Rain On Me” by Lady Gaga & Ariana Grande
  • “Stuck With U” by Ariana Grande & Justin Bieber
  • “I’m Ready” by Sam Smith & Demi Lovato
  • “Watermelon Sugar” by Harry Styles
  • “Wildflower” by 5SOS

Misc Faves

But Better

One of my recent favorite quarantine watches has been “But Better” which is a series hosted by Joshua Weissman. He basically takes a beloved fast-food item and recreates it, making his own “better” version. I really enjoy these videos and how much times he puts into creating a better version. Even though I haven’t tried to make any of them, I really do love these videos.

Home Workouts

The guy I’m talking to suggested us going on a diet together and I immediately shut that idea down. Instead, I told him that I’d get into a workout routine and so far, it’s been really great. While I’m not sure if I’ve lost any weight or gained any muscle, I really do enjoy having a routine. I usually work out 6 times a week and the video above is the one I’ve been doing for the past few days. I really need to a video that works for me and will end up showing some results. Either way, it’s been a lot of fun getting into a workout routine.

Chloe Ting Results Videos

If you watch any kind of fitness Youtube, then you’ll know who Chloe Ting is. She does a lot of fitness videos and her workouts are incredibly popular. I did try her workouts but they’re pretty intense. However, I like watching others try it out and see their results at the end of the two weeks. Susie J Todd has easily become my new favorite when it comes to these fitness result videos, too. They usually make me laugh but also make me feel motivated lol.

I’m an aunt!

I’m not sure if I’ve mentioned this before on my blog. Either way, I’m an aunt now as my brother and his gf had a baby boy. When I’m typing this up, it’s actually the day he was born so I have yet to meet him. All I know is that the baby has red hair which is exactly what my brother had as a baby. It’s just so weird to think that I’m someone’s aunt but I am. Lol

Those are all my non-bookish faves for the past three months. I’m sure I probably forgot some things but I’ll catch them next time. Hopefully you guys enjoy this post as I’ve really been enjoying writing this up. Anyways, that’s all I really have to say. 🙂

Quarterly Non-Bookish Faves (January, February & March 2020)

Hello friends and fellow non-book lovers! I feel like it’s been forever since I’ve done a non-bookish favorites post. Maybe it’s because I haven’t had many monthly favorites so I ended up falling off the wagon. To try and remedy that, I decided to make this a quarterly installment. Every three months, I’ll be making a post about my non-bookish favorites so I have more time and will hopefully have a fuller post.

Movies

Jumani: The Next Level

I’ve only been to one movie this year and this was it. I really loved Jumanji when I  watched it so I knew I had to see the sequel. Personally, I thought the sequel was good albeit not as good as the first installment. I thought it was funny and made some excellent points about family, friendships and dealing with life after high school. Plus Nick Jonas is in it so of course, I’ll throw my money at anything he’s a part of.

The Good Dinosaur

If there’s one movie you watch from this post, it has to be The Good Dinosaur. I know this movie didn’t perform as well at the box office but I loved it. The guy I’m talking to has Disney+ and he let me use it so I decided to watch it. Honestly, I thought it was so cute while still being heartfelt and featuring some life lessons. I’m not sure why this movie gets such as bad rap but I really enjoyed it.

Us

Next up is another movie I watched as part of my week-long challenge. Of all the movies I watched, Us was easily the best of the bunch. Despite being super scary, I thought it was such a wonderful film. The cast was incredible and the “twist” towards the end made a lot of sense. If you haven’t watched this yet, I highly recommend it if you think you can handle it. I don’t recommend watching it at night which is what I did lmao.

Wonder Woman 1984

While this one isn’t out yet, I’m super excited about it. Wonder Woman was my favorite movie of 2017 and I guarantee this one is going to be my fave of 2020. Originally, this was supposed to be released on June 2nd and now it’s being released on August 14th. If you didn’t know, my birthday is on August 15th so I’m going to make a full day of going to see the movie, going out to eat and just having a girl’s day which is going to be SO much fun.

TV

New Girl

Since the beginning of the year, I’ve been making my way through New Girl and I’m pretty sure in February, I finished it. Honestly, I stopped at season 3 before the year started and I decided to pick it back up. Personally, I thought the series was incredible and I’d highly recommend. As someone who is firmly a Jess, I have to say she’s my favorite and this show is just so charming. While I know it’s not for everyone, I really loved watching it and even cried during the finale lol.

Shrill

I really enjoyed Season 1 of Shrill so I knew I had to watch season 2 and I thought it was as good as the first season. I really love seeing Annie’s character development throughout the series and watching the ups and downs of her career, her love life and her life in general. I think this show does a great job of keeping Annie in the spotlight but also giving the side character their time, too. Personally, I really liked the ending of this and hope Annie has finally come to her senses in this one regard.

Schitt’s Creek

This is actually a show I haven’t finished yet but I wanted to mention it. One of my best friends recommended Schitt’s Creek and it’s been great so far. I think I’m on season 3 and Netflix currently has 5 seasons so I’m about halfway through. I think this show is really funny and the casting is absolutely spot-on. While I like to root for the Rose family, I do enjoy seeing how they deal with the setbacks that keep happening to them. Lol

Killer Inside: The Mind of Aaron Hernandez

If you can’t tell, I’ve basically been watching Netflix and doing nothing else. My best friend from high school and I have been watching shows together as a way to entertain each other at work. One of the shows we both watched was Killer Inside: The Mind of Aaron Hernandez which talks about Hernandez’s childhood into his adult life including college, his stint in the NFL and eventually, him going to prison for murder.

It’s such an interesting look at the case and honestly, it was both informative and entertaining. Personally, I didn’t know much about the case but I think the doc did a great job of giving an overview of the case. If you’re into true crime, then I’d highly recommend this.

Love Is Blind

If you haven’t noticed, I’ve really been using Netflix like crazy and this was even before quarantine lmao. Speaking of my best friend from high school, this is another show Laura and I decided to watch together. I saw all the memes and we eventually decided to watch. Honestly, this show was SO wild but super entertaining and had me feeling so many things before it was over. Thankfully, my favorite couple got married in the end so it was great and this show was exactly what I wanted.

You

Another show I binged on Netflix with Laura was You. If you haven’t noticed, Laura and I make our decisions based on memes. We saw the memes about this show and decided to watch it. What a wild ride this show was especially Season 1. While I liked both seasons, I thought Season 1 was much better than the second. You is, of course, about Joe Goldberg who is the epitome of a charming psychopath who stalks and “fixes” the women he falls in love with. This show was just so addicting and I think we finished the entire series in less than a week.

Tiger King

The last show I watched before April was Tiger King which was another one Laura and I watched because of memes. I don’t want to give too much away about this show because I think it’s better to go in blind. As someone who watched it because of the memes, I have to say it was even better than I hoped for. Easily one of my new favorite guilty pleasure shows and I think it did a great job of shedding light on issues most people don’t even think about.

Music

Niall Horan

Ever since Niall Horan announced his new album, I’ve been hyped. When it was finally released in March, I was excited and rightfully so. I bought Niall’s first solo and I think this one was a massive improvement. In Heartbreak Weather, his music feels a lot more mature and more to his style than Flicker. I also liked that he set the tracklist up to tell a story that was clever. As for my top 3 favorite songs, it has to be 1. “San Fransisco,” 2. “Bend The Rules” and 3. “Heartbreak Weather.” Easily one of my favorite albums of the year so far!

Selena Gomez

Another album I’ve been really loving this year is “Rare” by Selena Gomez. I feel like Selena’s album has been super underrated. For me though, I’ve loved almost all of the songs on it especially her singles. Similar to Niall, I think this album is more mature and it’s nice to see her singing about more mature topics and embracing her age. As for my top 3 songs, it’s 1. “Cut You Off,” 2. “Lose You To Love Me” and 3. “Look at Her Now.” This is another album I’d consider a fave of the year.

Five Seconds of Summer

Aside from the Jonas Brothers, Five Seconds of Summer has easily become one of my new favorite bands. Before their latest album came out, I decided to check out some of their older stuff including their previous album and loved it. 5sos is so incredibly talented and with every album, they’re not afraid to make changes. While I haven’t listened to CALM as much as Youngblood, there’s no way I’m going to be disappointed. I can’t believe I slept on them for so long lmao.

Julia Michaels

If there’s one artist I’ve absolutely fallen in love with, it’s Julia Michaels. I didn’t really check out any of her stuff until I stumbled upon it one day. I downloaded both of her EPs and she’s just so GREAT. I don’t even know how but it feels like she’s in my brain and her songs just speak to me. Not to mention, she has such a beautiful voice and is an incredible songwriter. Even if she only has a few lines in a collab, they’re almost always as good as the rest of the song. If you haven’t checked her out, please do because she’s one of my absolute faves.

Here are a few other songs I discovered and loved so far this year!

  • “What A Man Gotta Do” by Jonas Brothers
  • “One Night Standards” by Ashley McBryde
  • “You Should Be Sad” By Halsey
  • “Gaslighter” by Dixie Chicks
  • “I Love Me” by Demi Lovato
  • “One Man Band” by Old Dominion
  • “Hard to Forget” by Sam Hunt

Misc Faves

Adult Coloring Books

One of my recent favorite things is adult coloring books. I tried to get into them a few years ago but didn’t want to focus. However, I decided to pick one up while I was listening to an audiobook and it’s been a game-changer. Since then, I’ve been turning more to adult coloring books when I needed some time to myself or just wanted to get immersed in something at home.

Jonas Brothers artwork

Another thing I’ve been buying recently is Jonas Brothers related artwork. I don’t think I’ve mentioned this on my blog before but I have plans to make a Jonas Brothers wall in my house. I have pictures, art prints and a framed photo with me with them as part of it but I don’t have it fully complete yet. Buying artwork from the small shops though has been a nice way to support the boys and a small business.

Those are all the non-bookish faves I have for the first three months. I know this post was super long so if you read it, I condemn you lol. Hopefully next time, it won’t be as long but who knows? 😛

My Life

Spring Non-Bookish Faves

Hello friends and fellow book lovers! I feel like it’s been forever since I’ve done one of these posts and I’ve basically done everything but reading. April has been a huge step back for me as far as reading goes and honestly, everything in my life. Finally, it feels like the tides are changing and in the words of Ariana Grande: “thank u, next.” So let’s get into it!

Movies

Christopher Robin

I’m not sure why I waited so long to watch this movie, but I loved it! Christopher Robin is basically the story of Christopher Robin as he’s grown up and needs to learn what his priorities are again. It’s such a delightful yet relatable story and I especially loved getting to see all of my favorite characters from when I was younger.

Booksmart

I don’t usually talk about how much I loved The To-Do List but it was easily one of my favorite movies in college. This movie reminds me of a lot of it because it’s about this kind of nerdy girls who want to have fun before going to college. Maybe it’s just a premise that I like but this movie looks amazing. Hopefully, my Jonas gals will want to go see it.

TV

Brooklyn Nine-Nine

After I break up, I decided to make it my mission to watch the entirety of Brooklyn Nine-Nine and guess what? I did it and it was amazing. It’s easily one of my new favorite TV shows. I didn’t even get upset at the cute Jake and Amy parts because I just love them so much??? This show really made me feel so much better and it will always have a special place in my heart. ❀ ❀

Superstore

This show was recommended to me by my boss. He said that the show is all about people who work in retail and since I work in retail, I was down. Even though I’m only on season 1, this show is super relatable and I LOVE it so much. It does a great job of showing what a lot of retail employees think/do/act like on a regular basis. I can already tell that I’m going to love the rest of this show.

Broad City

Sadly in April, one of my favorite shows ever ended and that was Broad City. I don’t exactly remember when I started watching it but I love it. The ending was everything I wanted and more. It made me so happy and sad but I wouldn’t have changed a thing. I think the show took some risks that both paid off and didn’t work. It was just an incredible season to cap off an amazing series.

What We Do In The Shadows

This is another show I watched amidst my breakup and it surprised me. What We Do In the Shadows is a mockumentary style show about a group of vampires who live in Staten Island. It’s equal parts funny and super weird but I enjoy it. So far it only has 5 episodes out so I’m excited to see where the series goes.

Shrill

Basically, all my faves have been TV related and I’m just a binge-watching queen. Lmao anyways I was really excited for Hulu’s Shrill and it was everything I wanted. Even though it was only 6 episodes, it featured a lot of difficult topics and made a lot of interesting commentaries. At least I have another season to look forward to!

Music

Jonas Brothers

In April, so much happened with the Jonas Brothers. They released another single and also announced that their album was coming June 7th. I already took the day off work to buy it and plan on having a girls day with my Jonas squad. It might be pathetic to say but their reunion is what makes me MOST happy in this world. I don’t know if I would’ve gotten through this breakup if I didn’t have their music.

Brooks & Dunn’s Reboot

I know that’s not Brooks & Dunn, but they released a new album called Reboot. It’s basically covers of their older songs by new artists. Most of the time, they also sing on the song, too. I think it’s a really cool concept and breathes new life into songs that people might have forgotten about. Two of my favorites have to be Kacey Musgraves singing Neon Moon and Cody Johnson singing Red Dirt Road.

Lemonade by Beyoncé

Recently, BeyoncĂ© finally released Lemonade on all streaming platforms. I’ve basically been listening to it non-stop on Spotify. It’s such an amazing album and I might end up buying it on iTunes eventually. For now, I really like listening to those songs again and it’s just perfect.

Here are a few other songs I really like!

  • “Make Me Want To” by Jimmie Allen (babe ❀ <3)
  • “NASA” by Ariana Grande
  • “National Anthem” by Lana Del Rey
  • “Juke Jam” by Chance the Rapper ft Justin Bieber

Misc Faves

Small Shops & New Glasses

IMG_7130

This pic is actually a two-for-one. ALSO, LET’S IGNORE MY BREAKOUTS, ok everyone be cool lmao. I had to include it because one of my non-bookish faves is my new glasses. They took some getting used to but I really love them. I wanted a change and that’s exactly what they were.

Second, I’m wearing a sweatshirt made from a small shop. Lately, I’ve been getting really into buying stuff from independent stories or shops from Etsy. It’s basically all Jonas Brothers merchandise but that’s beside the point. Lmao

Baja Mountain Dew

One of my favorite spring/summer drinks has to be Baja Mountain Dew. It originally started at Taco Bell but they decided to put it out in stores. Thankfully, one of the vendors at work told me they were stopping it soon. Basically, I’ve been stocking up on it and drinking it ALL THE TIME. I’m basically hyper 24/7 but I don’t mind lmao.

Dating

This might be a weird one, but I’ve been getting myself back into the dating world. I’ve been doing a little flirting with someone irl. I don’t think it’s going to go anywhere but there is always a possibility. I also downloaded Bumble and I’ve met a few prospects so it’s slow going but not as bad as I thought. Maybe if something gets more serious, I’ll talk about it but for now, I’m just getting it low-key and having fun. 🙂

I’m pretty sure those are all my non-bookish faves. I’ve been waiting to do this post so I’m happy to finally have it posted. Hopefully, it wasn’t too long and you guys didn’t get bored. If you read this entire thing, then you’re the real MVP.

My Life

Winter Non-Bookish Faves

Hello friends and fellow book lovers! I’ve been so excited to finally do this post as there have been so many non-bookish faves for me. Surprisingly, winter has been a great season for me as far as non-bookish things go. I did read a decent amount of books, too but now is not the time so let’s get into it 😛

Movies

Creed II

Are you guys sick of me talking about this movie?? Lol well, I’m not because I just loved this movie so much. I was a fan of the first movie and I was so excited for the sequel. I ended up enjoying it just a little more than the first one.

It added entirely new lore to the Creed and Rocky franchise. Watching Adonis’ character growth, how impacted his relationship and the fight scenes were amazing. This movie was so fantastic and it’s easily one of my favorite movies of 2018, if not all time.

Dumplin’

Another movie I loved this winter was Dumplin’. Personally, I’ve been watching a lot of Netflix lately and I was a little apprehensive of this one. I didn’t like the book but I’m happy to say that I loved the movie. I loved the cast, the changes they made and especially all the nods to Dolly Parton. I can’t wait to see what Netflix does next. 🙂

Us

My last favorite is actually a trailer. On Christmas, Jordan Peele released the trailer for his new horror movie, Us. I really loved Get Out so I’m excited to see what Peele does next. The premise is incredibly unique and I know Peele will set it up one way and then rip the rug out from under us. Plus the cast is just perfect so yes I can’t wait!

TV

She-Ra and the Princesses of Power

Keeping with my Netflix theme, I marathoned She-Ra and the Princesses of Power. I didn’t watch the original series, but this reboot was everything. It was action-packed but didn’t give up any of that for character development. I especially loved its focus on friendship and it really inspired me when it came to writing. I can’t wait to see what happens in season 2. 🙂

Big Mouth

Going to the entire opposite side of the spectrum, I watched Big Mouth. It took me a week or so but I finished both seasons. If you don’t know, this show follows a group of friends who are going through puberty. It deals with a lot of relatable topics but makes them funny. It’s super funny but also timely as it focused on issues like slut-shaming, sexual education, and depression.

Golden Girls

I took a little break from watching Golden Girls but now I’m back into it. I just started season 5 so I have the rest of it and two more seasons. I’m excited to see what the show tackles next but also nervous. At times, it’s really dated and I hope it improves with that instead of getting worse.

Bob’s Burgers holiday episodes

Because of the holidays, I decided to start a new tradition. I watched the holiday episodes of Bob’s Burgers and it actually put me in the holiday spirit. I watched a handful of the Thanksgiving and Christmas episodes. I consider those some of their best episodes so I’d highly recommend it for next year if you need some holiday spirit. 😉

Music

Ariana Grande

I can’t even begin to express how much I love Ariana Grande. I’ve been listening to her sweetener album since I bought it and since then, I’ve downloaded the rest of them. I’ve also really been loving thank u next and imagine. I honestly can’t describe how happy her music makes me. I’m also planning on going to her concert in June so I’m crossing my fingers for that. 🙂

Kacey Musgraves

Another artist I really loved this winter was Kacey Musgraves. I borrowed Golden Hour on hoopla and eventually, bought it on iTunes. Golden Hour is filled with so many goods songs and I’m sad that I slept on it for so long. Even if you don’t like country music, you need to give Kacey Musgraves a chance. She has such crossover appeal that you won’t even notice it’s country 😉

Jimmie Allen

Keeping with the country theme, I really loved Jimmie Allen this winter. It’s so rare to find POC in country music and a Black man at that. Allen adds something entirely new to the genre and doesn’t just stick to the same “bro-country” template. His debut album, Mercury Lane has a lot of great songs but two of my faves are “To Be Single” and “Best Shot.”

Here a few other songs I really loved!

  • “Beautiful Crazy” and “I Know She’s Ain’t Ready” by Luke Combs
  • “Dumb Blonde” by Dolly Parton ft Miranda Lambert
  • “Got My Name Changed Back” by Pistol Annies
  • “Dance Like We’re Making Love” by Ciara

Misc Faves

New robe and slippers

For Christmas, I did a gift exchange with my cousins. For one of my ideas, I put down slippers and my secret Santa actually got me two pairs. Now, I have a pair that I wear in my room and another I wear around the house. A week or so after Christmas, I also found a new robe as mine’s old and pretty worn so I’ve been loving using them both.

New planner and calendar

Right before the year began, I got a new planner from Barnes & Noble. It’s not nearly as high maintenance as the one I bought last year. Hopefully, that will cause me to use it more plus I found little to-do checklists and weekly agendas so I’ll be able to have better time management.

In keeping with the same theme, I got a new calendar for 2019. Usually, I get one for Christmas but Santa forgot 😛 Luckily, my dad and I went to the mall and found me a Bob’s Burgers one. I also found a small one with dachshund puppies on it. 🙂

Fantasy football surprise

For Christmas, a friend in my fantasy football league told me she got me a gift. I had no clue what to expect. However, when I opened it, it was a signed jersey of Michael Thomas. I was so shocked and happy, I still can’t believe she did that. It means a lot to me especially since I’ve been covering the team for almost 2 years. I’m just so excited to display and I’m so thankful ❀

New dresser

For Christmas, the big gift I asked for was a dresser. Thankfully, Santa brought it to me and I can’t tell you how much I love it. It’s so much easier than having all those stupid plastic dressers. Everything is so much more organized and I feel like I have a lot more room. 🙂

Those are my non-bookish favorites for winter. Winter was a pretty good season for me if you couldn’t tell. I loved a lot of things and I might even be missing some. Either way, I had a great Thanksgiving and Christmas. I had to work both New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day which isn’t fun but oh well. Money is money 😛

What about you? What were some of your non-bookish favorites during this winter?
