My Favorite…Music

Hello friends and fellow book lovers! For this week’s “My Favorite,” I wanted to shift the focus from books to music. I haven’t really talked about music much during “My Favorite” but I wanted to give anyone a chance to talk about their favorite music. As much as I enjoy reading, I also enjoy listening to music so I’m excited to talk about my favorite music. 🙂

BookishlyRebecca is now the host of the “My Favorite” meme, a weekly meme posted on Wednesday. Originally started by Maureen’s Books, she agreed to let me take over.

As Maureen described it, “In this meme, we share every week something we love with each other. Because let’s face it. The world can be a dark place and it’s to share something positive. Each week I will post a new My Favorite.. post about one subject and I’ll tell you all about it. And the best part? Everyone is welcome to join. The only thing you’ll have to do is sign up on my weekly post, link back to this post, and visit others.”

My favorite music has to be pop music. I know that pop music can get a bad rep sometimes, but it’s obviously popular. Of course, I’d be remiss to not mention the Jonas Brothers as they’re my favorite band. They’re not the only pop music I listen to, though as I also love Niall Horan, Ariana Grande, Julia Michaels, 5sos and Taylor Swift.

I also really enjoy country music. It’s a genre I’ve loved since I was younger and I still enjoy country music. Right now, my current fave has to be Morgan Wallen. However, I also enjoy Ashley Mcbryde, Sam Hunt, Miranda Lambert, Jon Pardi and Kacey Musgraves. Personally, I love talking about music so I do plan on doing a playlist book tag so we’ll see what happens 😛

My Top 5 #HappinessBegins Tour Fan Requests

Hello friends and fellow Jonas Brothers lovers. If you didn’t know, my Jonas Brothers concert is tomorrow and I AM HYPED. Even though I’m writing this post early, I’m still in that mindset. When I started writing up my schedule for this month, I knew that I had to put up a post before the concert. Thankfully, I had a lot of ideas and things I wanted to talk about.

However, for my post before the concert, I wanted to do something unique. If you’re not a Jonas Brothers fan, you might not understand the title. I am here to be your guide if you’re unfamiliar. In the middle of every show, the brothers do a “fan request” which I believe is where fans yell out a song and they decide to sing it. That’s the basic gist but I’ve heard conflicting stories.

Either way, it’s basically where they sing a song that’s not on the setlist. It’s basically their chance to give the fans what they want and make the show more interactive. For my post, I decided to feature the top 5 songs I’d like for them to sing as a fan request. I’d like to give a small disclaimer and say that I’m writing this post early so if they sing them, it’s my bad. Lol but let’s go!

5. Games

Unsurprisingly, I already sent this list to a friend so I already had it planned out. Coming in at #5 is Games, a song from the Jonas Brothers self-titled album. As far as songs go on the album, this one is severely underrated. I know that a lot of fans say that it’s nostalgia glasses, but I really do think that this album is one of their best.

I think Games does a great job of showcasing Joe and Nick’s voices along with doing some different things with the beats and pitches. Hopefully, I know what I’m talking about. Lmao, either way, I’d like to see a 2019 take on this song.

4. 6 Minutes

When I’m posting this, the boys have only sung one song from It’s About Time, their debut album. This album is incredibly rare and is one that fans will hunt for because they want their very own copy. Thankfully, you can now buy the entire album on iTunes so everyone can own it in a way.

One of my favorite songs from the album is 6 Minutes and this is a case of it not being an actual song written by the Jonas Brothers. This song was originally recorded by LFO but I love the Jonas Brothers take on it. It’s a Joe-heavy song as most of the songs on my list are and I’d like to see how the boys would sound, singing this as they haven’t in many years.

3. Much Better

As you can tell, I’m trying to pick a song from each of their albums besides their new one as they’ll be singing a ton of those songs. I’d go as far to say that this entire album is underrated as the Jonas Brothers were coming off 2 majorly successful years. Lines, Vines and Trying Times was their first real “experimental” album and one that I know isn’t everyone’s favorite.

Thankfully, the album has a lot of bops and one that I particularly enjoy is Much Better. If you followed the drama, then you know this song is based on Joe’s relationship with Taylor Swift. By today’s standards, he would be throwing some major shade but I think this is a pretty polite breakup song and one that doesn’t get enough love. I especially love the vocals in this and the lyrics are just everything.

2. BB Good

I distinctly remember listening to this song a lot when the album came out. If I’m remembering right, A Little Bit Longer started out with this song. However, it never seemed to get as much love as it deserved. Rather, the album was known for hits like Burning Up and Lovebug which is great songs.

There was just something about BB Good that felt different. It felt like a more mature song but would be considered tame now. Regardless this song was just unlike anything I’ve heard from them before and I LOVED it. As per the other songs, I’m pretty sure that Joe was the only one who sang on this one and I absolutely die for that. Lmao

1. Hollywood

If I had to pick one song that I’d DIE to hear as a fan request, it’s Hollywood. If you’re sensing a theme, then you’re right. This song is severely underrated and I think it’s one that they haven’t played since their 2007 tour. Honestly, I wish that this song was getting as much hype as their others because it’s just glorious.

I’d love to see if they change the lyrics or keep them the same. A 2019 version could be completely different and I’d like to see that. Since they’re only doing one fan request, I’d love it if they decided to do this song!

Those are my top 5 #HappinessBegins Tour fan requests. Hopefully, by the time my show happens, they haven’t sung these. If they have, then it’s on me. Lol

Would anyone like to see a post about my concert? I’d be happy to do one if you’re planning on going to see them or if you’re looking for tips about the Hershey Park stadium. Either way, I’m just so EXCITED that a post is pretty much inevitable at this point. 😀

Ranking my Top 10 Jonas Brothers songs

Hello friends and fellow book lovers! Originally, I wanted to write a discussion post but it ended up being a jumbled-up mess. Instead, I decided to do a non-bookish post and with the recent Jonas Brothers reunion, this is the idea I came up with. I feel like I’ve only mentioned it once or twice on my blog but I stan the Jonas Brothers and I have for the last 10 years of my life.

I’m pretty sure I found out about them in 7th or 8th grade. From that point on, I was obsessed, in love and let’s be real, I still am. Since their reunion, I’ve either been listening to their new song or been switching around between the old albums. As dumb as it might sound, I’m just so happy that they’re back and they put me in a good mood every time I hear them sing, watch a video or do anything basically.

I love those boys with every fiber of my being. I will stan them until I DIE and even after, I will haunt people and sing their songs. Joe, Nick, and Kevin are so special to me and I honestly can’t imagine my life without them. That sounds so crazy but they were such a BIG part of my life when I was younger.

In honor of their reunion, I thought I’d talk about my 10 favorite songs by them. I am what you would call a Jonas connoisseur. I have all of their albums including their 3D concert album and the special Bonus Jonas edition. I consider myself an expert in their music. However, I won’t be including any “unreleased” songs even if they are bangers.

10. “Year 3000” from Jonas Brothers (2007)

I know what you’re thinking. “Rebecca, you really put Year 3000 at #10??” Yes, I know but just hear me out. We all know that Year 3000 slaps but it’s also one of their most famous songs and their most recognizable. Personally, I’m into their slower songs but I can admit that Year 3000 is the jam of the century. There’s a reason why it’s called Year 3000 because it’s truly going to last that long.

I picked it as my #10 because it’s one of their more fun songs. For me, this is one that I like to sing the shower or dance around to. Also, can we just talk about the hair?? Joe’s especially (!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) This video is really fun but it’s also technically not their song as it’s a cover of Busted. That’s why it ended up being #10 on my list.

9. “Mandy” from It’s About Time (2006)

If you’re an OG Jonas fan, then you know the struggle of It’s About Time. This was their first CD and it’s almost impossible to get a copy of it. At the time of its release, it only sold like over 100,000 copies which are wild. Since then, fans have been clamoring for it and rightfully so.

Their first single from the album was “Mandy.” Written about a family friend, the song is basically about how great Mandy is. Simple but it makes for such a catchy song. As previously mentioned, this was before they signed with Disney so it has more of a punk/rock feel than pop. I think this was the perfect single for them as it would have appealed to both their teen listeners and adults, too.

8. “Burnin Up” from A Little Bit Longer (2008)

Once again, I know you probably think I’m crazy for ranking this one as low but I’m not the biggest fan of their singles. However, I do think this song is a stand-out from A Little Bit Longer. Honestly, that album is probably my least favorite of theirs. Unpopular opinion, I know but it never grabbed me like the others. Doesn’t mean I don’t know all the words, though.

This song is such a quintessential summer song and every time I hear it, it puts me in a good mood. The video was perfect, the lyrics are perfect and JB is perfect. This was when they were at the peak of their fame and it’s clear that Disney knew how big of a hit this song was going to be. Even though I look super white when I dance, I can’t help but dance to this.

7. “6 Minutes” from It’s About Time (2006)

If I had to pick a favorite from It’s About Time, it would be 6 Minutes. One thing that many people might not know is that It’s About Time is full of covers. 6 Minutes was a cover of an LFO song but for some reason, I fell in love with it. Probably because Joe sings a majority of it and I have been a Joe girl from day 1.

Either way, 6 Minutes is a song I always return to. They did a performance at a club or some MTV after-party and I rewatched it all the time. I hope it still exists because I’d love to rewatch it again. Once again, this one isn’t an overly poppy song but rather a more punk/rock inspired one.

6. “Hello Beautiful” from Jonas Brothers (2007)

I feel like I don’t even need to explain this answer because the title should tell you everything. This song is a slow-jam and it’s basically a love letter they’re writing to their long-distance girlfriend. if I had to guess, I’d say this was probably a Nick-Miley song but I don’t really know.

Regardless, this song just makes me feel so gooey inside. It feels like they’re singing directly to you and I’M BLUSHING. I used to love listening to this song before bed because it’s so soothing. I especially relate to it because my boyfriend’s in California and I miss him V MUCH so it’s the story of my life. Thank you Jonas Brothers, praise bless.

5. “Sucker” (2019)

Since we’re officially at the mid-point, I figured I’d feature their newest song. This song is so different from what they’ve done before. Despite how different it is, it’s somehow better than anything they’ve ever done before. Regardless, I haven’t formed a connection to it like with their older music. It did give us an entirely new Jonas Brothers era, though.

Sucker has everything I’ve always wanted in a Jonas song. Sex for one (just kidding!) I love their new sound, the lyrics, how mature their voices sound and just hearing them back together is amazing. Even though I’m not as connected, this song does mean a lot to me and I can’t wait to see what songs they release next. Plus the video is everything I never knew I needed.

4. “Black Keys” from Lines, Vines and Trying Times (2009)

This album was their first foray into something other than the pop Disney sound. The album has some great songs, but my favorite is easy “Black Keys.” I’m honestly not even sure what this song’s about but I really relate to it for some reason. Maybe it’s because I’m super insecure but it’s an empowering song. 🙂

This is another one that’s on the slower side and is soothing. Nick does take the lead in this one, but I don’t mind. I think his voice suits this better than Joe’s would so I can excuse it :P. Plus I remember really loving this song when I was younger and I could seriously listen to it all night.

3. “S.O.S” from Jonas Brothers (2007)

I’d be remiss to not include one of their best singles in the top 3. S.O.S. is arguably their biggest song of all time and the opening notes are iconic. At least I think so because every time I hear it, I know exactly what song’s going to come on. It was the perfect song to introduce them into the world.

This was basically a break-up anthem and one that still holds up today. It’s just so catchy and every time it comes on, I just want to scream. I mean that in the best way haha but I just love this song so much. It’s also the first song on the album and what a way to start out!

2. “When You Look Me In The Eyes” from Jonas Brothers (2007)

I’ll be completely honest here. I didn’t love this song when it came out because everyone loved it. Honestly, that album slapped and the people in HS didn’t even listen to the entire thing…just that one song. A musical tragedy if I’d ever heard of it but as I’ve grown up, I’ve come to appreciate and love this song.

This was one of the multiple love songs on the album, but it still sticks out. In a weird way, it kind of feels like an anthem for fans. As fans, we love them and have stuck through them with everything and this song feels like an answer to that. Plus the video is just amazing so how could I not love it??

1. “Just Friends” from Jonas Brothers (2007)

I know this is probably a controversial opinion, but this is my favorite Jonas Brothers song. For years, I’ve loved Just Friends and the song has never gotten the attention it deserved. It’s a song about the boys being in love with one of their friends and it eventually becoming more. Hello 911, the Jonas Brothers STOLE MY LIFE STORY!!!!!

This is another one that isn’t a super pop-heavy song and I just love everything about. I don’t even mind how much Nick sings. I love the lyrics so much!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I just love this song so much and I don’t even know how to describe it. It makes me so happy and I’m glad this song exists.

Those are my Top 10 favorite Jonas Brothers songs. Honestly, I could probably make this into a top 20 but I decided to challenge myself. I might have forgotten a few but oh well, these are the songs that I consider favorites right now!

Do you like the Jonas Brothers? If so, what’s your favorite song by them?

Three-Day Lyrical Challenge: Day 3

Hello friends and fellow book lovers! Good afternoon and I hope you’re having a good day so far. I worked 6-10 so I’ve been off work for about 2 hours. I did dishes, made some lunch, switched laundry and made cookies. It feels like I’ve already had such a long day lol.

Anyways let’s get into Day 3 of the Lyrical Challenge. As noted by my previous posts, I was tagged by Sara! Let’s get into my song and some lyrics 🙂

The song I chose today is one I’ve loved almost my whole life. I’ve always loved country music and one of my favorite groups was Dixie Chicks. Regardless of the controversy around them, I always listened to their song. I like almost all of their popular songs and that’s what I’m going with!

The song I chose is “Cowboy Take Me Away” by Dixie Chicks. This song always puts me in a good mood and it’s one of those songs where I know all the words. Even though I can’t sing, I love singing along to this and it just makes me so happy lol.

These are some of my favorite lyrics!

I said I wanna touch the earth
I wanna break it in my hands
I wanna grow something wild and unruly
I wanna sleep on the hard ground
In the comfort of your arms
On a pillow of bluebonnets
In a blanket made of stars
Oh, it sounds good to me
I said cowboy take me away
Fly this girl as high as you can into the wild blue
Set me free, oh, I pray
Closer to heaven above and closer to you
Closer to you
I wanna walk and not run
I wanna skip and not fall
I wanna look at the horizon and not see a building standing tall
I wanna be the only one for miles and miles
Except for maybe you and your simple smile
Oh, it sounds good to me
Yes, it sounds so good to me
This song will always be one of my favorites! ❤

Three-Day Lyrical Challenge: Day 2

Hello friends and fellow book lovers! Usually, I don’t post consistently every day but I’m making an expectation for this challenge. Earlier this year, the Three-Day Quote challenge was going around and I did that. This time, I was tagged to do the Three-Day Lyrical challenge.

It’s basically the same thing but instead of quotes, you use lyrics. Thank you so much to Sara for tagging me!

  • Thank the person who nominated you
  • Share one of your favorite song/lyrics one at a time for three days
  • Nominate three bloggers each day

While I sort of went with a funny song yesterday, I’m going with one of my new favorites this time. It’s definitely an older song but I’ve been listening to almost every night. It really helps to calm me down and is basically how I feel, lol.

The song I chose is “Long Distance” by Bruno Mars. It’s basically a song about the struggles of being in a long distance relationship and I feel that! Honestly, sometimes it makes me cry just to listen to it. However, I end up feeling better because at least I’m releasing those emotions haha.

Anyways, here are some of my favorite lyrics!

I wish that you were here with me
But we’re stuck where we are
And it’s so hard, you’re so far
This long distance is killing me

It’s so hard, it’s so hard
Where we are, where we are
You’re so far
This long distance is killing me
It’s so hard, it’s so hard
Where we are, where we are
You’re so far
This long distance is killing me

It’s just something to help me get through the night because it’s hard being away from the one you love. Anyways enough of this depressing sadness, let’s get into who I’m tagging for today!

Tag! You’re It:

Music Habits Tag

Hello friends and fellow music lovers! Do you like how I switched that up today? It’s Sunday and it’s time for another tag. I’ve been waiting forever to do this tag and it’s not a book tag. Surprising, I know but it’s the Music Habits Tags.

I love music so this tag is perfect for me. This tag was created by Sumedha of The Wordy Habitat. Thank you so much for tagging me and I’ve been thinking about this tag since you tagged me lol 😛 Before I get started, here’s a look at the rules!

  • Tag the creator
  • Thank the person who tagged you.
  • Answer all the questions.
  • Tag at least three friends.

Do you download songs or stream on apps like Spotify, Wink?

I used to download music all the time, but I couldn’t find a good site. Instead, I usually rely on Spotify or Youtube to listen to music. Spotify is incredibly reliable and has almost all the music I want to listen to.

What’s your current favorite song?

My current favorite song has to be the Finesse remix by Bruno Mars ft Cardi B. I’m trash for this song and I’m not even mad about it. I love the song, the lyrics, the music videos and that Grammy performance was everything.

This song also always puts me in a good mood when I hear it. It always makes me want to get up and dance. I’m white so I clearly don’t know how to dance.

Last song you listened to?

With how much I love Finesse, I started to listen to Bodak Yellow by Cardi B. It’s just such a catchy song and puts me in a good mood. I love this video too so like I said, I can’t get enough of Bruno or Cardi B.

Who are your all-time favorite artists?

  • Jonas Brothers
  • Chris Young
  • Bruno Mars
  • Ed Sheeran
  • Ariana Grande
  • SZA

Have you been to any concerts?

Yes, a few concerts. My favorite has to be the Jonas Brothers one I went to in 2008 because I’m a huge Jonas Brothers fan and it was just everything!

Do you play any instruments?

No way haha

Do you play your songs on shuffle or choose a playlist?

It all depends on my mood. Sometimes I’ll decide what songs I want to listen to or sometimes I’ll put it on shuffle. Usually, I can’t make up my mind so I keep changing songs over and over again.

Name one song that you always skip when it comes up on shuffle.

Small Bump by Ed Sheeran. I do love the song, but it makes me so sad!

Do you prefer playing songs on speaker or listening in ear/headphones?

I always always use headphones. I even keep a spare pair in my purse in case I need some when I’m out haha.

Is there any popularly liked song that you don’t like?

There are soooo many of those haha. Right now, it’s anything from Justin Timberlake’s new album. I cannot deal with Frisky or Say Something like dude please bring sexy back again haha.

Where do you usually find new music? Example through shuffle online, recommendations.

I usually find out new music from two different places. I either hear them on the radio or find them on Youtube.

Do you like songs based on tunes/beats or lyrics?

Usually lyrics. The beat is what hooks me, but if the song has good lyrics, I’ll listen to it over and over again.

Name one song that you think everyone should listen to.

I’m not a big Michael Jackson fan by any means. However, I realize how much of an influence he had on the music industry and how iconic he is. One of my favorite songs by him is The Way You Make Me Feel so I think everyone should listen to it. 🙂
