Mid Year Book Freakout Tag

Hello friends and fellow book lovers! Since it’s basically the middle of the year at this point, I knew I had to do the Mid Year Book Freakout Tag. I think I’ve done this tag every year that I’ve had my blog and I really enjoy it. It’s a nice way to look back at the earlier part of the year and what I hope to achieve in the latter half.

I’m not sure who originally created this, but I pulled the questions from Jess of PeaceLoveBooksxo’s channel. I personally really love her channel as she reads a lot of romance, does fun experiment videos and has an awesome personality. If you’re looking for someone new on Booktube, check her out. 🙂

1. Best book you’ve read so far in 2020.

44143895. sy475

This was tough as there are a lot of books I’ve really loved this year. However, the book that is easily my new favorite is You Deserve Each Other by Sarah Hogle. I loved the characters, the unique premise and their love story. It was unlike anything I’ve ever read before and it personally made me reflect on the kind of relationship I want. It also helped me see the things I wanted to change about myself while in a relationship and this book just means a lot to me.

2. Best sequel you’ve read so far in 2020

39835958. sy475

I decided to go with the second book in a series when talking about sequels. The best sequel I’ve read this year has to be Wanna Bet? by Talia Hibbert. This is the second book in the Dirty British Romance series and oh my god, it was so good. It was friends-to-lovers romance and honestly, it had so many cute moments and gah! I just loved Jasmine and Rahul so if you need to read Talia Hibbert’s backlist, I highly recommend this one.

3. New release you haven’t read yet, but want to.

48760923. sy475

The book I chose for this one is Queen Move by Kennedy Ryan. I know this book just released in May but I have yet to get to it. I know it follows characters from her Kingmaker series so I want to get caught up on that. I haven’t seen many reviews of it though so I’m cautiously optimistic. Plus that cover is just stunning so I’m all over it lmao.

4. Most anticipated release for the second half of the year.

This was an easy one and that’s because I already have this one preordered. If you’ve been following me, you’ll know that I love Alexa Martin. That’s why it’s no surprise the newest book in the Playbook series is my most anticipated released for the latter half of 2020. She puts her name on anything and I’ll buy it. It’s as simple as that lol plus the subject matter of this book is incredibly timely. Overall, this one is poised to be a new favorite.

5. Biggest disappointment.

49584864. sx318 sy475

My biggest disappointment so far is easily A Cowboy To Remember by Rebekah Weatherspoon. I normally love her books but this one was a rare miss for me. I don’t know why but this book just didn’t work for me. Maybe it’s because the book was a slow-burn, the lack of chemistry or how all the action started around the 75% mark but this didn’t work for me. I’m still excited to read more of her backlist, though.

6. Biggest Surprise

52935617. sx318 sy475

When I saw this audiobook on Hoopla, I didn’t think much about it. Either way, I decided to pick it up and what a delight this was. It’s an f/f romance between a songwriter and the singer she’s writing songs for. Honestly, I thought it was super cute albeit super short and a bit dramatic. Nevertheless, I thought it was a solid read and a huge surprise.

7. Favorite new author. (Debut or new to you)

Surprisingly, I haven’t read a lot of debuts or new-to-me authors. However, I’m going to try to narrow down 3 for each so let’s talk about new-to-me authors first.

First up is Teagan Hunter. When Ellyn picked my TBR in January, I never anticipated I’d end up wanting to devour her books. I’ve only read books 1 and 2 in the Texting series but I’m eager to read more from her. Next up is Jack Harbon who writes m/m romances and I’m so happy I discovered him. Lastly, I have to go with Ngozi Ukazu who writes the Check, Please! comics and gah! I absolutely loved volume 1 so I can’t read to more from her.

As for debut authors, I have 2. First is obviously Sarah Hogle who wrote You Deserve Each Other and it’s clear why I love her. Next up is Emma Lord who wrote Tweet Cute and it was another huge surprise for me. She wrote such an adorable romance along with lovable characters so this was an easy one.

8. Newest fictional crush

40798099. sy475

As much as I wanted to say Nicholas from You Deserve Each Other, I wanted to include some other favorites. Keeping with the same name though, one of my newest fictional crushes is easily Nik from Sweet on the Greek. I feel like no one has read this book so they don’t understand how sweet and sexy Nik is. Sigh, I just love him so very much.

9. Newest favorite character.

44569978. sy475

For this one, I have to go with Ruth from A Girl Like Her. There’s just something about Ruth I can’t get enough of. She’s unabashedly herself and doesn’t give a fuck who likes it or not. She also wears pajamas everywhere which is goals and I especially loved how she spoke her mind on everything. She didn’t care who didn’t like it because she was saying it no matter what. Honestly, I wish I was half as carefree as Ruth is.

10. Book that made you cry.

Unless I’m forgetting one, I don’t think any books have made me cry this year. They might change in the latter half of the year, though 😛

11. Book that made you happy.

42034959. sy475

The book I chose for this one is Mating the Huntress by Talia Hibbert. This is a Halloween novella with a romance between a werewolf and a werewolf hunter. I absolutely loved this book. It was surprisingly funny while still being sexy and I loved every second of it. I especially loved Luke because he was so hopelessly in love and it was just goals.

12. Most beautiful book you’ve bought so far this year (or received)

13. What books do you need to read by the end of the year?

Once again, I’m going to go with three books so let’s get into them.

  • The Wall of Winnipeg & Me by Mariana Zapata. This is on my list of 20 books to read in 2020 and still have yet to read it. I do plan on reading it before the year ends, though.
  • The Rebel King by Kennedy Ryan. I think I mentioned that one earlier in this post and it still stands. I really have no excuse why I haven’t read this one yet.
  • The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes by Suzanne Collins. Of course, I want to get this one read as Ellyn and I didn’t buddy-read the original series for nothing. I might end up having to buy this one since the library holds are insane for this.

That’s the Mid-Year Book Freakout. I’m not going to tag anyone since I know this is a pretty popular tag. However, I’d like to know which books you guys still want to read before the end of the year. I obviously have more than three but those three are high priority for me!

Mid-Year Book Freakout Tag

Hello friends and fellow book lovers! Even though I’m a little bit late, I wanted to do the Mid-Year Book Freakout Tag. For those who have been following me for a while, I’m reusing my graphic from last year. I can’t believe I still had it saved but I did. 🙂

Anyways, thank you so much to Ally for tagging me. If you’ve been following me, I’m sure you all know Ally. She has an amazing blog, is a great friend and always creates such awesome feminist content, too. She rocks so please go check her out if you haven’t ❤

*Side-note before I start: Even though this book is going up super late in July, I’m writing it in late June so it truly is at the mid-point of the year 😛

Best book you’ve read yet in 2018

Where do I even begin? I have so many books I’ve loved in 2018 and a lot of new favorites but I’ll try to pick one!

For right now, I’m going with The Nowhere Girls. It’s a super-diverse feminist read and what I’ve described as an edgier Moxie. I got it for Christmas and read it in January, such a perfect start to the year.

Best sequel you’ve read so far in 2018

I thought Hunting Prince Dracula wouldn’t be as good as SJTR. However, I loved them both equally but Hunting Prince Dracula really expanded the world, the characters, and their relationship. It also had a great villain, awesome ending, and such an amazing setting.

New release you haven’t read yet but want to

*A ton but I’ll just mention one.

A lot of my fellow bloggers have been raving about this one! Not only does it have a pretty cover but the premise sounds amazing. Everyone also emphasizes how feminist it is which I’m looking forward to.

Most anticipated release for the second half of the year

I haven’t read Jasmine Guillory’s previous novel, but this one sounds so amazing. I love sports but I hate when people propose on jumbotrons. This book sounds like it’s going to tackle that subject well and possibly make fun of it. I’ve also been trying to read more adult contemporaries so it seems like the perfect fit 🙂

Biggest Disappointment

Such an awesome cover for such a bad book. Ugh, I wanted to love this book but all the characters were terrible and the portrayal of fandom was horrific. Ship It had such potential and it was just awful.

Biggest Surprise

Going into My Lady Jane, I knew there was a lot of hype. I didn’t think it would live up to my expectations. Thankfully, it completely blew me out of the water. This was such a fun book and one of my new faves.

Favorite New Author

My queen Emma Mills, of course ❤ ❤

Newest Fictional Crush

Grip from the Grip series by Kennedy Ryan. He was so swoonworthy and he reminded me of my boyfriend and I LOVE HIM

Newest Favorite Character

Basically all characters Emma Mills has ever written but also Claudia from Foolish Hearts. She was a great character because she had her flaws but was still a good person and a great friend. I loved watching her grow and change throughout the novel.

Book that made you cry

I listened to the audiobook for Long Way Down and it was narrated by the author, Jason Reynolds. He put such emotion behind his voice and at certain parts, my emotions got the best of me. It was such a moving story and unlike anything, I’ve read before.

Book that made you happy

Almost Midnight by Rainbow Rowell featured two short stories. I loved both the stories and the addition of the illustrations. This book had me smiling even though it was really short. Both stories were light, fun and quick. I’d highly recommend if you want something to breeze through.

Favorite book to film adaptation

I haven’t watched any that I know of, sorry!

Favorite post you have done this year

One of my best is The Lady Janies Book Tag that Ellyn and I made. I’m incredibly proud of it and I’m so happy we created this tag together ❤

Most beautiful book you’ve bought this year

Did anyone else guess I was going to say Emma Mills? Her covers are gorgeous, but I’ve already talked her up in this post so I’m going with something different. Personally, I think the cover for Girl Made of Stars is gorgeous and it looks so perfect on my shelf 🙂

What books do you need to read by the end of the year?

SO MANY but here’s just a few

  • The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid
  • I Was Born For This by Alice Oseman
  • The Wedding Date by Jasmine Guillory
  • Vivian Apple at the End of the World by Katie Coyle
  • Failure Is an Option: An Attempted Memoir by H. Jon Benjamin ❤ ❤
  • Anger Is A Gift by Mark Oshiro

Anyways, those are just some of the books I want to read before the end of the year!

That was the Mid-Year Book Freakout Tag! Personally, I love this tag so I’m going to tag a few people do it as well 🙂

What was your favorite book you’ve read so far in 2018? Anyone have any good adult contemporary romance to recommend? 🙂

Mid-Year Book Freakout Tag

Much like my fellow book bloggers, I saw this tag pop up on Youtube. Then I was tagged so I knew I had to do it. Thank you to bookneeders for tagging me. You can check out her lovely blog and her responses to the question too 🙂

I’d also like to thank Ericka for making that gorgeous featured image. She also created the banner for my blog. She just made her own blog if you want to check it out. All the free promos aside, here are my responses to the Mid-Year Book Freakout Tag for 2017!

1. Best book you’ve read so far in 2017?

Image Acquired from Amazon

As soon as I saw this question, I knew what book I was going to chose. Could it have been anything other than The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas? This book was everything I had hoped for/wanted and the reason why I got back into reading this year. If you haven’t read The Hate U Give, you are sorely missing out and you need to read it. If you only read one book from this list, read this one.

2. Best Sequel You’ve Read So Far in 2017?

Image Acquired from Amazon

Sadly, I think this is the only sequel I’ve read in 2017. I think most of the other books I’ve read have been stand-alone. Regardless, P.S. I Still Love You was a good book but not my favorite of the series. The To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before trilogy is definitely one of my favorite series, though. It’s such a cute idea and it can get a bit clichey and tropey but it’s a solid series and a perfect one to read in summer.

3. New Release You Haven’t Read Yet, But Want To?

Image Acquired from Amazon

I have a ton of books I want to read and haven’t yet. It was a huge struggle trying to pick just one but I decided to go with Eliza and Her Monsters by Francesa Zappia. I’ve heard such positive things about this book and it’s about fandom so there’s no way I won’t love it.

4. Most Anticipated Release For Second Half of 2017?

Image Acquired via Amazon

I actually have a ton of books I’m looking forward to in the second-half of 2017. The one I’m looking forward to most is Wonder Woman Warbringer by Leigh Bardugo. I’ve never read one of her books yet so that will be interesting. I love Wonder Woman and I especially loved the film so a book about her is going be amazing I’m sure.

I tried to add more pictures but I couldn’t figure that out lol. I’m also looking forward to Moxie by  Jennifer Mathieu, They Both Die at the End by Adam Silvera, The Nowhere Girls by Amy Reed and Things I’m Seeing Without You by Peter Bognanni.

5. Biggest disappointment?

Image Acquired via

It pains me to even put this one on here, but sadly I didn’t like this book as much as I had hoped. I went into it, thinking it was going to be a great story about female friendship and it wasn’t. Everything I had hoped and wanted from this book didn’t happen. Fireworks had the potential to be great but for me, it ended up being a miss instead.

6. Biggest surprise?

My biggest surprise of the year has to be We Are Okay by Nina LaCour. I actually wasn’t all that excited or interested in reading this book at first. Once I started reading, I couldn’t put it down. I thought I was going into a fluffy book but it turned out to be heavy and emotional, making me like it even more. It was easily one of my favorites of the year.

7. Favorite New Author (Debut or New To You)?

Image Acquired via Good Reads

There was no way I wasn’t going to include When Dimple Met Rishi on here. This is my first book by Sandhya Menon and her debut novel, too. I loved Menon’s writing style and how she was able to shift the tone of the book seamlessly. Her writing was funny too, something writers can struggle with. I’m definitely excited to see what she writes next and I’ll be reading all her novels from now on.

8. Newest Fictional Crush?

This is incredibly difficult because all YA boys are swoon worthy. As much as I love my baby, I’ll have to pick at least one. I think I’m going to go with Reid from The Upside of Unrequited. He’s so dorky and shy and cute, I could just eat him up haha 🙂

9. Newest Favorite Character?

Hmmm, this is pretty difficult one. I’ve read a lot of books and I’ve loved a lot of those characters. The one I’m going to go with is Dimple from When Dimple Met Rishi. She was a strong female character who loved what she did and wouldn’t give it up for anything. I just fell in love with her from the first page.

10. Book That Made You Cry?

Image Acquired from Amazon

I wasn’t planning on using a duplicate answer, but I couldn’t think of another one. I was sobbing throughout reading The Hate U Give. It was such an emotional read but one I would read over and over again. This book touches on so many sensitive and relevant topics and gives great commentary on the world.

11. Book That Made You Happy?

Image Acquired via Amazon

Geekerella by Ashley Poston was such a feel-good read. It was full of fandom, love and a geeky Cinderella retelling. What more could you want? It had me smiling almost the whole time I was reading and it was one of my favorites so far this year.

12. Favorite Book To Movie Adaptation You Saw This Year?

Sadly, I haven’t watched any. I was planning on seeing Everything Everything but it never came anywhere close to me. I didn’t get to see it so I can’t say I watched any based on a book.

13. Favorite Review You’ve Written This Year?

This sounds bad, but my review of Everything Everything has been my favorite one. It was the first one I wrote and I didn’t really know what to do, but I love it. I’m actually trying to call back to it more because I loved it that much.

14. Most Beautiful Book You Bought or Received So Far This Year?

I don’t actually own physical copies minus a few books so I don’t have many to reference so I’m not really sure lol 🙂

15. What Books Do You Need To Read By The End of The Year?

Where do I even begin? I have so many books I want to read before the end of the year but I’ll try to keep my list relatively short.

I want to read Alex, Approximately, What I Lost, Eliza and Her Monsters, Tash Hearts Tolstoy and You’re Welcome Universe among many many others.

I’m tagging Lysette, The Galaxy Girls, Maram, and Ericka. If you’ve already done this tag, feel free to ignore me but I don’t have anyone else to tag really soooo 🙂
