2020 Goals End of the Year Check-In

Hello friends and fellow book lovers! This is going to be a fairly long post as I’m going to be talking about my goals for this year and if I accomplished them. I really enjoy making this posts and looking back at how I thought this year was going to go. Honestly, I’m sure none of us saw 2020 going the way it did. Either way, let’s get into my reading goals and see if I met them as I hoped. 🙂

Goal #1: Read 160 books in 2020

I crushed it with this one!!!!! When I’m typing up this post, I’ve read almost 260 books which is 100 books more than I originally had in mind. Honestly, I’m really happy because I had SO many books I wanted to get read and I found a lot of new favorite authors. I also found out a ton of books I know I’ll want to get read next year. 🙂

Goal #2: Successfully participate in at least 6 read-a-thons

This one, I have to think about because I feel like I partcipated in a handful of readathons this year so let’s break down some of the ones I’ve taken part in.

  • Smuathon
  • Contemporary-A-Thon
  • OWLs
  • Graphics-A-Thon
  • The Olympic Games
  • Pop Culture Readathon
  • Romance Takeover Readathon

Those are just the readathons I’m pulling out of my head as I don’t have my reading journal beside me. However, I did end up crushing this one which I’m so happy about because I really love being able to participate in more bookish community events. I know I’ll looking for more fun readathons in 2021 and want to continue this.

Goal #3: Finish at least 3 series this year

This is another goal that I smashed this year as I finished all of these when I wrote my mid-year check-in. I honestly don’t read a lot of series so this is huge for me. I don’t think I’ve finished any since that point, though so at least, I got it done!

Goal #4: Buddy-read at least 5 books with Ellyn

Yikes! This is the one I was so hyped for but we didn’t end up doing it. However, Ellyn and I do have a lot of plans for the upcoming year. I won’t say anything else about it so you’ll have to wait and see for that 😉

Goal #5: Read more indie romance books

I can honestly say that I’m pretty sure I’ve read more indie romances than traditionally published romances. Maybe it’s because my library has been buying more or I finally took the plunge with Kindle Unlimited. Either way, I’m happy to say that I crushed this goal and found some new favorite authors because of it.

Goal #6: Only buy 20 books in 2020

44569978. sy475

For me, this was a really attainable goal because I really don’t buy books unless I love them or know I’ll reread them on my shelf. I don’t think I went over my goal, I didn’t count but I think I’m right. Either way, I’m so happy to say I didn’t buy any books this year unless I absolutely loved them. I’ve been utilizing the library a lot more and that’s a great feeling.

Those are all my 2020 goals and I’m happy to say that I met almost all of them. I don’t know if I’m going to create goals for 2021 as I don’t know what the year will hold. Either way, I’m just so happy to finally be done with this year and that I ended up having a good reading year nonetheless. 🙂

My Favorite…2020 Goal

Last month for “My Favorite,” I did a prompt featuring a favorite New Year’s resolution and some might say that this prompt is the same. While I do agree that they’re similar, I wouldn’t say that they’re exactly the same. Rather, a goal is something that you work towards for the entire year and hope you accomplish before the year ends. As for a resolution, it’s basically you doing or not doing something so let’s get into my favorite 2020 goal.

BookishlyRebecca is now the host of the “My Favorite” meme, a weekly meme posted on Wednesday. Originally started by Maureen’s Books, she agreed to let me take over.

As Maureen described it, “In this meme, we share every week something we love with each other. Because let’s face it. The world can be a dark place and it’s to share something positive. Each week I will post a new My Favorite.. post about one subject and I’ll tell you all about it. And the best part? Everyone is welcome to join. The only thing you’ll have to do is sign up on my weekly post, link back to this post and visit others.”

At the end of each month, I’ll post the prompts for the following month so be sure to check back then!

For me, my favorite 2020 goal is to go on more adventures. In 2019, I did more than I’ve done in years including going on a train, visiting my best friend and generally finding things that make me happy other than my previous relationship. It was a tough year, but I think it helped me into a much better person.

With that being said, I have a few plans to make that goal happen. Firstly, I’d like to get a license as well as a car. I know I’m late to the party but I feel like I’m ready. Additionally, I’d like to go on at least one road trip by myself as a way to celebrate that. Lastly, I’d like to take the train at least once after I get said car as I really enjoy taking the train.

Overall, I think that goal is one that a lot of others can relate to. Personally, I’m hoping that this post holds me accountable and I’m able to achieve those things. Even if I get my license at the end of the year, I’ll be happy. 🙂

Hello 2019, Goodbye 2018 or my goals posts

Hello friends and fellow book lovers! Last year, I made multiple sets of goals and looking back, I’m not sure I fulfilled any of them. Either way, it’s time to look back and see if I succeeded. I’m also going to talk about my goals for 2019 and maybe, I’ll actually achieve something on my new list.

Without further ado, let’s get into my 2018 goals and see what I achieved. Even if I didn’t, it’s good to look back and see my plans from the beginning of the year. I guess I’m hopeful but also dreading this. Let’s start before I change my mind.

2018 Goals Check-In

Writing Goals 2018

  • Participate in Nano: This was a big fat no and I think I was a little too overconfident in myself with this one. Right now, my focus is on my article writing rather than my fiction writing. I’m not going to beat myself up too much with this one because I did a lot of writing this year. (0/1)
  • Narrow down the topics for my NFL book: Like I mentioned, my focus was solely on my article writing. I did devote some time to this but not much. I still do plan on writing about the NFL in book form but it’s way too early to try and figure out anything concrete. (0/2)
  • Find a writing buddy: Lol what??? I think this was based on a fiction project because I already have someone reading/editing my articles. Honestly (0/3)
  • To improve my grammar: Finally, one I actually achieved. I’ve been using Grammarly to help with my writing and I think it’s worked for me. I can see myself improving little by little so I consider this one a success. (1/4) Let’s just pretend I didn’t set writing goals for myself and move on lol.

Reading Goals 2018

  • Read the entire Harry Potter series: Yes! I actually did this one and I’m pretty darn proud of myself. It took me a few months but I was able to get through the entire series. After seeing all the hype, this was huge for me. (1/1)
  • Set a Goodreads goal of 150 books: I’m not sure why I didn’t do this but I set my goal for 150 books. When I’m writing this post (12/1), I’ve read 140 books so we’ll see if I end up reading 150 books before the end of the year. (1/2)
  • Read at least 10 non-fiction books: Yes!!!!! This was a goal I was dead set on achieving and I did it. If I remember counting correctly, I read 12 non-fiction books this year so I’m really happy! (2/3)
  • Start and finish at least 2 series: I think I achieved this one. I finished the entire Harry Potter series and I also finished the Grip series by Kennedy Ryan. I’m almost done with the Wild Seasons series too so I’m giving this one to myself lol. (3/4)

Blogging Goals 2018

  • Introduce 2 new series on my blog: Sadly, I only introduced one new series on my blog and that’s “My Favorite.” Technically, it wasn’t mine to start with but I’m not going to beat myself up. I like the schedule I have for my blog. (0/1)
  • Branch out with my content: I guess I kind of did this. I started doing non-bookish favorites and have done some non-bookish “My Favorite” posts so I’ll give this to myself lol. (1/2)
  • Reach 200 followers: Um???? I’m almost at 500 followers when I’m typing this which I can’t believe. I still can’t believe my blog has grown this much and people actually want to see my posts or talk to me??? (2/3)

I’m not featuring life goals this year so I’m skipping that section and I don’t think I have many writing goals, either. I think I’m in a good place with my writing now and I’m hoping I can catch a break soon. If not, then it’s just not meant to be…yet 😉

Goals for 2019

Reading Goals 2019

  • Go on a book-buying ban: I’ve kind of already set this goal for myself. This goal is mostly based on my enjoyment of the books I read in 2018. I only want to buy books I’m going to read, love and want to read again. I think I was a little cavalier and I want to be a bit stricter with my reading.
  • Read 15 non-fiction books: Last year, I set a goal of 10 non-fiction books and I ended up reading 12. This year, I upped my goal to 15 books and I’m hoping I can do that with ease. 🙂
  • Fully embrace audiobooks: This year, I dipped my toe and tried audiobooks. Sadly, the service I used ended up basically lying to everyone. In 2019, I plan on listening to more audiobooks and hopefully, splitting my reading 50-50 between audio and physical but we’ll see about that.
  • Finish The Lunar Chronicles series: In 2018, I read Cinder and never picked any of the other books up. In 2019, I’d like to continue and finish the series. I think Ellyn and I discussed reading it together at one point so maybe reading it together will motivate me.
  • Participate in at least 3 read-a-thons: This year, I participated in 3 read-a-thons, 1 of which was my own. I also participated in the Contemporary-A-Thon and the Nightmare Before Book Princess Review Read-a-Thon. I love read-a-thons and I can’t wait to see which ones 2019 bring.

Blogging Goals 2018

  • Blog makeover: I’ve pretty much had the same theme since I started my blog and I want to try something new. My friend Ericka and I will probably work together on it so I won’t be just doing it alone so fingers crossed on that one!
  • That’s basically my only goal for 2018 as I really like how my blog is going 🙂

I had such a fun yet productive 2018 so I’m excited to see what 2019 has for me. At this point, I’m really happy with how my blog is growing, the content I’m featuring and the reading I’m doing. I can only hope 2019 is as good to me in terms of blogging and reading. 🙂

2018 Blogging Goals

Since I started my blog this year, I’ve been putting a lot of time and effort into it. I have to say I’m proud of how far I’ve come and all the things I’ve been able to do with it. Going into 2018, I still have I want to accomplish and things I want to try. I’m really excited to see what the new year holds for me and for mylifeasasportsfangirl.

These are some blogging goals I plan on accomplishing in 2018!

Introduce 2 new series on my blog

One thing I’ve been trying to work on is coming up with new series. I want to come up with some original content I can add to my blog. I already have a few ideas even though they might not be that original. However, I’d like to add some fresh content and show I’m able to change and adapt when needed. So far, this is in the early phases but I might plan on rolling one out as early as February.

Branch out with my content

As much as I love books, I want to try to incorporate a few new things. While I have to be careful with movies and TV, I can talk about other things that interest me. Sports is a huge one but I also love Booktube, Music, Long Distance Relationship stuff, and Disney. There’s so much cool stuff I could talk about and adding a few more things to my blog would add some variety to your blogging feeds, too.

Reach 200 followers

Just this year, I gained 100 followers. I honestly can’t believe it or understand why but I did. I’m still reeling from that but to gain 100 more would be great. I’m not even close to that now but I think if I work hard and made worthwhile content, people will come to me. I know it’s not all about followers, but getting more makes you feel more confident in your blogging and that you know what you’re doing. All that being said, I’d be happy to hit any milestone over 100.

What are some of your blogging goals for 2018?

My Life

2018 Writing Goals

It’s a little bit early in December, but never too early to make goals for next year. This is a series I’m introducing in December so I’ll be talking about my writing goals, blogging goals and general life goals.

Mostly, there are things I hope to accomplish in 2018 or things I’d like to try out to see if it works or to see if I like it. First up, I’ll be talking about my writing goals and then my reading goals and then my life goals. Fingers crossed I accomplish everything I set out to

1. Participate in Nanowrimo

Since starting my blog, I’ve been hearing all about Nanowrimo after not hearing about it ever. I was a huge fanfiction writer when I was younger and I’d like to take a stab at original fiction. I have a few ideas in my head but I’ve never tried to put words on the page. In 2018, I’d like to get my ideas together, form a plan and actually participate in Nanowrimo. It seems like it could be something fun and a great way to spend November.

2. Narrow down topics for my NFL book

One thing I’ve been thinking about doing for years is writing a book about the NFL. I won’t give away too much on the topic, but it’s pretty niche. I have a general overlying topic but I don’t really have a central focus on it. As broad of a topic, as it is, I’d like to be able to narrow it down to a couple topics and branch out from there.

It might take me a few months, but even getting a headstart would be awesome.

3. Find a writing buddy

I’ve always wanted someone to write with and bounce ideas off of. I’ve talked to a few people but nothing has really panned out. Finding someone to talk to about my writing, my issues and reading my work would be a huge help. I’ve always loved talking about and learning more about my writing so I’d like to have someone else help me out with it.

4. To improve my grammar

Last but not least, I’d love to improve my grammar. I do use a grammar checker but it’s been a huge struggle for me. One professor in college wouldn’t stop pointing it out. It was so annoying and I’d like to fix it. It’s a huge part of the writing process and one I’d like to improve upon so I can become a more successful writer.

What are some of your writing goals for 2018? I’d like to hear yours and if you have any tips for mine. 😀
