Winter Non-Bookish Faves

Hello friends and fellow book lovers! I’ve been so excited to finally do this post as there have been so many non-bookish faves for me. Surprisingly, winter has been a great season for me as far as non-bookish things go. I did read a decent amount of books, too but now is not the time so let’s get into it 😛

Creed II

Are you guys sick of me talking about this movie?? Lol well, I’m not because I just loved this movie so much. I was a fan of the first movie and I was so excited for the sequel. I ended up enjoying it just a little more than the first one.

It added entirely new lore to the Creed and Rocky franchise. Watching Adonis’ character growth, how impacted his relationship and the fight scenes were amazing. This movie was so fantastic and it’s easily one of my favorite movies of 2018, if not all time.

Another movie I loved this winter was Dumplin’. Personally, I’ve been watching a lot of Netflix lately and I was a little apprehensive of this one. I didn’t like the book but I’m happy to say that I loved the movie. I loved the cast, the changes they made and especially all the nods to Dolly Parton. I can’t wait to see what Netflix does next. 🙂

My last favorite is actually a trailer. On Christmas, Jordan Peele released the trailer for his new horror movie, Us. I really loved Get Out so I’m excited to see what Peele does next. The premise is incredibly unique and I know Peele will set it up one way and then rip the rug out from under us. Plus the cast is just perfect so yes I can’t wait!

She-Ra and the Princesses of Power

Keeping with my Netflix theme, I marathoned She-Ra and the Princesses of Power. I didn’t watch the original series, but this reboot was everything. It was action-packed but didn’t give up any of that for character development. I especially loved its focus on friendship and it really inspired me when it came to writing. I can’t wait to see what happens in season 2. 🙂

Big Mouth

Going to the entire opposite side of the spectrum, I watched Big Mouth. It took me a week or so but I finished both seasons. If you don’t know, this show follows a group of friends who are going through puberty. It deals with a lot of relatable topics but makes them funny. It’s super funny but also timely as it focused on issues like slut-shaming, sexual education, and depression.

Golden Girls

I took a little break from watching Golden Girls but now I’m back into it. I just started season 5 so I have the rest of it and two more seasons. I’m excited to see what the show tackles next but also nervous. At times, it’s really dated and I hope it improves with that instead of getting worse.

Bob’s Burgers holiday episodes

Because of the holidays, I decided to start a new tradition. I watched the holiday episodes of Bob’s Burgers and it actually put me in the holiday spirit. I watched a handful of the Thanksgiving and Christmas episodes. I consider those some of their best episodes so I’d highly recommend it for next year if you need some holiday spirit. 😉

Ariana Grande

I can’t even begin to express how much I love Ariana Grande. I’ve been listening to her sweetener album since I bought it and since then, I’ve downloaded the rest of them. I’ve also really been loving thank u next and imagine. I honestly can’t describe how happy her music makes me. I’m also planning on going to her concert in June so I’m crossing my fingers for that. 🙂

Kacey Musgraves

Another artist I really loved this winter was Kacey Musgraves. I borrowed Golden Hour on hoopla and eventually, bought it on iTunes. Golden Hour is filled with so many goods songs and I’m sad that I slept on it for so long. Even if you don’t like country music, you need to give Kacey Musgraves a chance. She has such crossover appeal that you won’t even notice it’s country 😉

Jimmie Allen

Keeping with the country theme, I really loved Jimmie Allen this winter. It’s so rare to find POC in country music and a Black man at that. Allen adds something entirely new to the genre and doesn’t just stick to the same “bro-country” template. His debut album, Mercury Lane has a lot of great songs but two of my faves are “To Be Single” and “Best Shot.”

Here a few other songs I really loved!

  • “Beautiful Crazy” and “I Know She’s Ain’t Ready” by Luke Combs
  • “Dumb Blonde” by Dolly Parton ft Miranda Lambert
  • “Got My Name Changed Back” by Pistol Annies
  • “Dance Like We’re Making Love” by Ciara

Misc Faves

New robe and slippers

For Christmas, I did a gift exchange with my cousins. For one of my ideas, I put down slippers and my secret Santa actually got me two pairs. Now, I have a pair that I wear in my room and another I wear around the house. A week or so after Christmas, I also found a new robe as mine’s old and pretty worn so I’ve been loving using them both.

New planner and calendar

Right before the year began, I got a new planner from Barnes & Noble. It’s not nearly as high maintenance as the one I bought last year. Hopefully, that will cause me to use it more plus I found little to-do checklists and weekly agendas so I’ll be able to have better time management.

In keeping with the same theme, I got a new calendar for 2019. Usually, I get one for Christmas but Santa forgot 😛 Luckily, my dad and I went to the mall and found me a Bob’s Burgers one. I also found a small one with dachshund puppies on it. 🙂

Fantasy football surprise

For Christmas, a friend in my fantasy football league told me she got me a gift. I had no clue what to expect. However, when I opened it, it was a signed jersey of Michael Thomas. I was so shocked and happy, I still can’t believe she did that. It means a lot to me especially since I’ve been covering the team for almost 2 years. I’m just so excited to display and I’m so thankful ❤

New dresser

For Christmas, the big gift I asked for was a dresser. Thankfully, Santa brought it to me and I can’t tell you how much I love it. It’s so much easier than having all those stupid plastic dressers. Everything is so much more organized and I feel like I have a lot more room. 🙂

Those are my non-bookish favorites for winter. Winter was a pretty good season for me if you couldn’t tell. I loved a lot of things and I might even be missing some. Either way, I had a great Thanksgiving and Christmas. I had to work both New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day which isn’t fun but oh well. Money is money 😛

What about you? What were some of your non-bookish favorites during this winter?

Fall Non-Bookish Favorites

Hello friends and fellow book lovers! Lately, I’ve been slacking when it comes to my non-bookish faves. In all honesty, I don’t end up having many non-bookish favorites in each month. All I usually do is read, write and watch Youtube so instead, I’m going to make my non-bookish favorites seasonal. It will be a lot easier to me and I don’t have to post it as frequently.

I’ll probably end up doing it every 2 months or so. As always, I have to give credit to Kristin. I got the idea from her and I love seeing her monthly non-bookish favorites so let’s get into my non-bookish favorites for September & October.

Before I get started, I didn’t watch many movies this month. I’m going to be skipping movies and get straight into TV.

Bob’s Burgers season 9

At the end of September, season 9 of Bob’s Burgers premiered. I’ve been recapping since it started and thus watching each episode. So far, I’ve really been enjoying the season. I don’t want to give it a solid grade yet, but it’s been a pretty good season.

Over The Garden Wall

My cousin let me use her Hulu and let me tell you, I’m taking advantage of it. One of the first shows I binge-watched was Over the Garden Wall. I’ve heard about this show for a while but I never watched it and I’m so happy I did. It was the perfect autumnal watch as it was set during Halloween, had some spooky moments and was incredibly atmospheric.

I’m just mad that I waited this long to watch it. At its core, it’s a story about two brothers and their relationship. I also binge-watched it in all in one sitting so it’s great for those chilly fall nights.

Golden Girls

Another show I’ve bingeing on Hulu is Golden Girls. I watched reruns of this when I was young but haven’t thought about watching it until recently. Right now, I’m only on season 2 but I love it so much. I can’t believe I slept on this show for so long.

Granted, some of the jokes and references are definitely dated. It’s also cleared geared at an older white audience. However, it has already dealt with some progressive topics for a show created in the 1980’s including sexual harassment and LGBT+ relationships. I have high hopes for the rest of the series. 🙂

I don’t have specific artists this month so I’m just going to include songs!

Misc Faves

Binging with Babish

I’ve been subscribed to Andrew aka Binging with Babish for a while. Recently, he’s been putting up weekly videos and I’ve loved every single one of them. One of my recent faves is his King of the Hill special where he featured a few of Peggy Hill’s famous recipes. It was such a fun way to pay homage to the show.

Challenge Accepted series by Tastemade

One of my new favorite series on Youtube is called Challenge Accepted. Usually, it’s where a member of the Tastemade staff has to eat 3 meals a day for a week from a certain place. There was also one where the girl cooked only 3-ingredient meals for 3 days straight. Each week, I look forward to which restaurant they’re going to try and how many different combinations they come up with.

My last fall favorite is witches. For some reason, I’ve really been loving witches this year whether it’s in live-action films, cartoons or books. I know I shouldn’t mention books but I had to make my point! My boyfriend also keeps referring to me as a witch which is true enough lol.

In October, I took a train to visit my friends and we had a girls weekend. It was a lot of fun and it made me want to travel more. If anything, it proved how much I was sleeping on trains. Trains are such an easy and relatively inexpensive mode of travel. It was only 2 hours and for the most part, was very quiet. I especially loved being able to just zone out and travel without any cares really.

What were some of your fall non-bookish favorites? I might have missed a couple but oh well!

August Non-Bookish Favorites

Hello friends and fellow book lovers! After skipping out on July, I’m back with my non-bookish favorites for August. Since I had a lot going on this month, it’s going to be a pretty long list. Well, I hope so but it all depends on what I can remember. That seems to be my problem every month 😛

I’d also like to give a nod to Kristin. She’s the reason why I started this so be sure to check her out!

To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before

I feel like the last person to mention this on my blog. However, I really enjoyed the Netflix adaptation of To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before. It was incredibly solid and it felt like the characters were everything I pictured in my head. I’ve only watched it once but I’m already down for a rewatch.

TV Shows

The Venture Brothers

In August, season 7 of The Venture Brothers premiered on Adult Swim. While I don’t believe I watched season 6, I was really excited about it. I think I have a pretty good handle on the show and what’s going on. That being said, I love watching the show and the direction it’s going in now. It’s definitely a show I look to watching each week and do so religiously.

My cousin is letting me use her Hulu account and I’m loving it. I’ve been binge-watching a few shows including Bob’s Burgers and Harvey Birdman. However, I’m excited to binge some older shows and maybe discover some new ones.

Ariana Grande

THE QUEEN IS BACK. Queen Ariana Grande released her album this month and I live and die by it. I enjoyed both of the singles: No Tears Left to Cry and God Is A Woman. I think her album is a bit different but is still good. She’s easily one of my favorite artists right now and she just keeps getting better.

Jordan Davis

Another one of my faves this month is Jordan Davis. I’ve been listening to his album on and off since it came off. Lately, I’ve been gravitating more to his songs and they’re so much fun. Right now, my favorite is Slow Dance in A Parking Lot but I also enjoy Dreamed You Did and Selfish.

Some of my other favorite songs are

  • Vanilla Twilight-Owl City
  • Radio-Hot Chelle Rae
  • If We Were A Movie-Hannah Montana
  • Hooked-Dylan Scott

Misc Faves

New Hair, New Me

Right after my birthday, I dyed my hair. I wanted to freshen it up a little bit and go a little darker for fall. Instead of it being a lighter brown, it’s now a “deep rich brown.” It’s a little different without being too dramatic. Honestly, it’s exactly what I had in mind.

My Birthday

I turned 25 on August 15th and it was such a good birthday. Even though I wasn’t with my boyfriend, I still felt the love from him, my family and friends. It was kind of low-key but the older I get, the more I prefer a birthday like that 🙂

Originally when I thought my boyfriend was coming in September, I wanted to get a few new outfits. Instead of going out to buy new things, I ended up going to a few thrift stores and found some cute things. I usually don’t thrift much or really clothes shop much but I love a good bargain.

Carrie Dayton

Speaking of thrifting, I almost forgot to mention a Youtuber I discovered. I’m not sure how I discovered Carrie Dayton’s channel but I’m obsessed. Most of her recent content focuses on being a “mid-size” girl and I fit into that category. It’s so refreshing to see someone my size or close to it, making content.

I especially love when she tries on clothes from different stores or goes thrifting. I think that’s why I was so inspired to go thrifting this month 🙂

Those are all my non-bookish faves for August (At least I think so!) What were some of your non-bookish fave for Augusts? Any recommendations for me to check out? 😀

June Non-Bookish Favorites

Hello friends and fellow book lovers! It’s time for one of my favorite posts to write and that’s my June Non-Bookish Favorites. As much as I love talking about books, I also enjoy talking about some of my other interest. This month, I have a pretty decent amount of favorites so let’s get into them!

Incredibles 2

This month, I went to the movies and saw Incredibles 2. After waiting 14 years, I can say this movie was worth the wait. I loved seeing all of my favorite characters again, being introduced to new ones and the movie in general. I’d highly recommend it 🙂

June also brought with it a ton of movie trailers I was excited for! I’ll include a few down below.

TV Shows

OK KO Let’s Be Heroes

One show I binge-watched this month was OK K.O. Let’s Be Heroes. It premiered on Cartoon Network in 2017 and I’ve heard pretty good things about it. After watching all of the episodes though, I can say it’s one of my new favorite cartoon shows.

It’s basically an action comedy about a hero named K.O and his two friends: Enid and Rad who work at a bodega. It reminds me a lot of Adventure Time as it’s light-hearted at times but also serious and covers some topics most kids shows would gloss over.

Dan + Shay

Even though their album isn’t out yet, it will be when this post goes up. I’ve loved this country duo for years and have followed their career. Each time they release an album, it instantly becomes one of my favorites. Of all the singles they’ve released, I think I disliked one of them. I’m just excited to see how their self-titled album is 😀

Some of my other favorite songs are

  • This is America-Childish Gambino
  • Downtown’s Dead-Sam Hunt
  • Apeshit-The Carters

Misc Faves

A Gold Star

At work, they introduced this new “Rock Star” program. Apparently, the manager chose someone from the department who is dependable, respectful and a good employee. I was awarded one and now I have a gold star pin on my badge. I know it’s probably not a big deal, but I love it so much 🙂

Those are all my non-bookish faves for June! What were some of your non-bookish favorites for June? 🙂

May Non-Bookish Favorites

Hello friends and fellow book lovers! This week, I’m coming at you with something different. Once again, I’m following Kristin’s lead and posting non-bookish favorites. I think it’s a really fun way to connect and not feature books all the time.

Everyone seemed to enjoy my post last month so I figured I’d give it another go. Without further ado, let’s talk about some of my non-bookish favorites for May!

This month, I have 2 movie favorites and they are connected. 🙂

Star Wars

This month, I have been firmly invested in Star Wars. With the release of a new movie (which I’ll talk about next!), I have been producing tons of content about it. I have truly taken a deep dive into the fandom and can’t find my way out.

Also I’m not above doing some self-promo so feel free to check out Star Wars: Celebrating the ladies in a galaxy far far away. It’s one of my favorite articles and one I really enjoyed writing. 🙂

Solo: A Star Wars Story

I was hyped for Solo and it sadly didn’t deliver. It was a decent movie, but nothing compared to what Star Wars has produced previously. My favorite thing was easily Donald Glover as Lando Calrissian. AN ICON and the love of my life.

Either way, I enjoyed the movie for what it was. It was fun and that’s what I was looking for. 🙂

Dear White People Vol 2

This month, I watched season 2 of Dear White People on Netflix. Season 2 really improved upon the first season. There was lots of character growth, new relationships, shocking revelations and a more realistic idea of what black college students deal with, on campus and offline. (At least I think so!)

The series also featured a lot of awesome cameos, an amazing last episode and just won me over again.

Bob’s Burgers

The season 8 finale of Bob’s Burgers airs this month and I’m sad but happy. I have loved the show for years but every season finale is bittersweet. Either way, I had fun covering it for Hidden Remote and I can’t wait for season 9!

She-Ra and the Princesses of Power

Towards the end of May, Noelle Stevenson tweeted the first look of She-Ra and the Princess of Power. It’s a new Netflix reboot and I can’t be more excited about it. There’s no release date, but I’m excited that she’s working on it and Netflix is handling it!

A huge music favorite this month was Kacey Musgraves. She released her new album, Golden Hour at the end of March and I just discovered it this month. I cannot stop listening to it and this girl does not have a bad song. My personal favorite is Wonder Woman but all the ones I’ve listened to, I’ve enjoyed it.

I’ve listened to her previous albums when they released and loved them, too. She’s such a breath of fresh air in the country music landscape and I suggest you check her out. She is exactly the kind of face we need in country music!

Kacey Musgraves is my main music favorites, but I’ve also continued to listen to Ed Sheeran along with Dustin Lynch and Sam Hunt. Guess May was a huge country music month for me!

Misc Faves

New laptop: Sadly, my old laptop started to die and the battery was going out. I called my brother and he helped me out a new one. It’s an HP laptop and it’s mint green. I love it so much and I’m so happy I bought it ❤

The Roundtable Youtube Channel: For those of you who don’t know, I love cartoons! I would rather watch cartoons than live-action TV or films. That being said, I have trouble finding Youtube channels that talk about cartoons critically or give good constructive criticism of cartoon fandom. Thankfully, I found The Roundtable which is 3 guys who have a channel devoted to that. Lately, I’ve fallen into a black hole on the channel and can’t stop watching them!

Those are all my non-bookish favorites for May! What were some of your non-bookish favorites from May? Any recommendations of things for me to check out? 😀

April Non-Bookish Favorites

Hello friends and fellow book lovers! This Friday, I’m coming at everyone with a different type of posts. For the last few weeks, I’ve been contemplating making a non-bookish favorites post. However, I’ve been going back and forth because I feel like I never have enough.

After reading Kristin’s, I decided to follow her lead. This post is going to be all about my favorite things during the month of April. The only condition is it can’t be bookish-related. Hopefully, you guys enjoy these types of posts so I can make more in the future.

Even though I don’t go to a lot of movies, I love movie trailers and writing about old movies so here are 2 of my movie favorites.

Crazy Rich Asians Trailer

A few weeks ago, the trailer for Crazy Rich Asians dropped. Even though I haven’t read the book, the trailer looks amazing. I did a little research on it for Hidden Remote and it’s intrigued me ever since. Not only did this trailer make me want to see the movie but also read the book.

The Incredibles 2 trailer

Obviously, I had to include this trailer on here too. Much like everyone else, I’m super excited for The Incredibles 2. I’m excited to see Helen take the front seat, see Frozone get more screen time and learn more about Jack Jack’s powers. Honestly, do I even need to explain why this is a favorite?

This was a huge TV month for me so hold on tight!

Two of my favorite Netflix originals released trailers: GLOW and Dear White People. I’ve enjoyed both of them immensely and I can’t wait to see what the upcoming seasons bring!

As for TV shows I’ve been watching, I’ve been falling asleep to Harvey Birdman: Attorney At Law. It’s an Adult Swim show about an old Hanna-Barbera character turned lawyer and it pokes fun at him and other Hanna-Barbera characters.

Some other shows I loved this month were Bob’s Burgers (of course), American Dynasties: The Kennedys and the NFL Draft. The draft is always a huge opportunity for me to get a lot more page views on my articles so it’s a plus 😀

Usually, I listen to the same artists every month but this month, I’ve listened to a few new songs and have enjoyed them.

An overall music favorite this month was Ed Sheeran. My mom has his newest CD and I enjoy almost his whole discography. My current favorite song is from Divide and it’s called “New Man.”

Now I’m just going to feature a few songs I’ve been loving this month and ones I highly recommend.

Misc faves

Pod’s Burgers: A Bob’s Burgers podcast: All month, I’ve been listening to a Bob’s Burgers podcast. I’ve never listened to a Bob’s podcast hosted by two ladies and these two are sisters. If you’re a fan of the show, they analyze the show, feature countdowns and are just cool ladies. I’m also interviewing them for Hidden Remote so yasss, they’re very cool.

Mrs. Potts pajama set: Right after I got my taxes back, I wanted to buy something (of course haha!) I went to Walmart and I found these really cute Mrs. Potts pajamas. I’ve been wearing them since I got them. They’re incredibly lightweight and I knew I had to get them since there is hardly any Mrs. Potts and Chip merch.

Women's and Women's plus licensed pajama tank and shorts 2-piece sleepwear set

My new blog name: I’d be remiss to not include my blog name change. Going from mylifeasasportsfangirl to bookishlyrebecca was a great decision. I’ve been going back and forth with it for a while. I’m happy I finally took the plunge and changed it as I think it’s a huge improvement. 🙂

Those are some my non-bookish favorites for April. Hopefully, you enjoyed this post and if you did, I’ll have to write up another post next month.

I’m just happy to feature some non-bookish stuff on my blog again 🙂
