Hello friends and fellow book lovers! This week, I’m finally going to be talking about my GraphicsAThon reads, and honestly, I am so excited as I ended up reading a few books I really enjoyed. For this round, it was a short “cram” round where we read as much as we could from midnight on Nov 6th until 11:59 on Nov 7th.
I didn’t actually have a planned TBR for this one aside from reading Sweat and Soap Volume 1. With that being said, let’s get into the books and I’m ranking them in the order that I enjoyed them. 🙂
6. Fake Blood
My least favorite read of this round was Fake Blood by Whitney Gardner. This is a middle-grade story about a guy who dresses up like a vampire to try and impress his crush. While I enjoyed the Twilight references, this one kinda fell flat to me. This just disappointed me and I’m sad about it. 3/5 stars
5. Cheer Up: Love and Pompoms
Next up is Cheer Up: Love and Pompoms. This is a short and sweet YA romance featuring two former friends who reunite and then things go from there. While I enjoyed the art style of this one, it just felt a little bit boring. The romance was cute and I loved seeing a trans girl at the heart of the story but it just lacked any of the angst or structure I was used to. This one does feature a lot of transphobias though so be sure that you can handle it. 3/5 stars
4. Witches of Brooklyn: What the Hex?!
The next book I’m talking about is the second in the Witches of Brooklyn series. This one follows a new storyline with Effie and her aunts. I honestly felt like this one was super cute and it featured a new character who honestly shocked me. I feel like this book is adorable and fun which is exactly what I wanted. If you have a young reader in your life, I highly recommend it. While I enjoyed it, it wasn’t a new favorite for me. 4/5 stars
3. The Tea Dragon Tapestry
This is the final book in the Tea Dragon series and it was so delightful and soft. We followed the same characters from the first two books and it’s basically them finding their own paths. This one was fun and sweet but honestly, it didn’t have much of a plot. Plus it didn’t focus nearly as much on the tea dragons which annoyed me. Either way, it gave me some serotonin lmao. 4/5 stars
2. The Way of the Househusband Vol 1
I decided to pick up a manga this round and this one was mostly because I saw my bf watch the anime. This is a manga focusing on a former yakuza boss who decides to become a house husband. This one is super short yet super fun and sweet. I loved seeing Tatsu really embrace his role and seeing him just be a soft husband. Nothing I can really complain about but it wasn’t a new favorite. 4/5 stars
1. Sweat and Soap Volume 1
We’re doing a live show for this one as part of the Hoemance Book Club so I won’t say much about it but it was my favorite read of this round. 🙂
Those were all my reads for this cram session of GraphicsAThon. I hope you all found some new favorite reads like I did. Before you finish reading my post, please take the time to look over these attached links to help with Black Lives Matter.
