Hello friends and fellow book lovers! If you saw my previous post, you’ll know that I haven’t been feeling the blogging mojo as much lately. With that being said though, I decided to write something up about a new favorite read of mine. However, I wasn’t sure what I wanted to see and how I wanted to structure it.
Instead of writing a review and gushing about everything I loved, I decided to talk about my experience reading an author for the first time. From looking on Goodreads, this is the first book I’ve read by Sarah MacLean and I have to say that I’m honestly extremely impressed.
The book I started with was Sarah MacLean’s latest released which is Bombshell and it’s book 1 in her new series, Hell’s Belles. It’s clear this one is connected to her other series, but I don’t feel like it took away from my understanding. However, I do feel like this book was probably her at her best so I’m a little nervous to dive into her backlist.
As for what I thought about her writing style, I enjoyed it for the most part. I do feel like she overexplained a couple of things and went into a bit TOO much detail. It was almost like she kept repeating the same sentences over and over again. I also felt like the pacing was a bit off at times. Sometimes, there would be lots of action, and then it would drag and vice versa.
Nevertheless, I really felt like Bombshell was an incredible story. I loved all of the characters and I especially loved the romance in the story. It’s a sister’s best friend/second-chance romance which was just perfect. I enjoyed the smut and dirty talk from our hero in particular. Overall, the book was a major surprise to me and I can see why it’s been raving about so heavily.
All in all, I feel like Sarah Maclean is an author I’ll be reading more of in the future. However, I do feel like I’m going to have to temper my expectations a bit. Either way, she seems like an author I’ll reach for in the future now.
In a year where I’ve read some duds, this book felt like a breath of fresh air. I’m still not a huge historical romance bitch but she seems like an author I’ll try to keep up with.
