Hello friends and fellow book lovers! For my “5 and 5” post this month, I decided to feature 5 summer romance recs plus 5 I have on my TBR. Since it’s basically hot as Hades outside, I thought this would be the perfect one for this month. I also wanted to do a summer romance recs posts so I’m killing two birds with one stone so let’s get into the recs portion first.
1. We Can’t Keep Meeting Like This
The first book I have to recommend for summer is one I just recently read. We Can’t Keep Meeting LIke This is a YA second-chance romance featuring two new-adult aged characters and it follows them as they reconnect via their family businesses in the wedding circuit. While it does have some intense moments, this book is relatively light and fun as it focuses on wedding plus you can’t help but root for the characters.
2. Maybe This Time
My next summer recommendation is Maybe This Time by Christina C Jones. I’ve been making my way through her backlist and she has tons of books. However, the book I’m recommending for summer is Maybe This Time. Firstly, it’s super short at less than 80 pages so it’s a super fast-paced read, features the “Married in Vegas” trope and is the ultimately friends-to-lovers book. I read this one during a plane ride and it was just so fun so I knew it had to make the list.
3. The Roommate
The next summer rec I have is The Roommate by Rosie Danan. This book is a romance between a girl and her roommate who she finds out is a very famous pornstar. While it does focus on that aspect, this book is really about the two of them coming out of their shells and opening up to each other. I won’t lie and say it isn’t steamy because it is but it was still a light and fast-paced read. While it won’t be for everyone, it’s worth checking out if you don’t mind the porn aspects of the story.
4. Desire and the Deep Blue Sea
The next summer rec is Desire and the Deep Blue Sea by Olivia Dade. This one is about a pair of co-workers who fake date for a reality show and it’s just so dang sweet. While it’s another relatively short read, the characters felt well-developed and I really rooted for their relationship as the story progressed. Plus this book is set during a vacation so it would be a nice vacation read. As per usual, it does feature plus-size rep if you’re looking for that. This one is just a delight.
5. The Changeup
The final summer rec I have is one I read last summer and adored. This is a romance between a baseball player and the sports blogger who trolls her. This book felt so refreshing as it featured a female athlete rather than the man being the athlete. These two had a dislike-to-love situation going with such excellent banter and lots of fun summery moments. I honestly couldn’t get enough of this book and if you’re looking for Black sports romances, then you need to add this one to your TBR.
1. Neon Gods
The first book I have on my summer TBR is Neon Gods by Katee Robert. This is a Hades and Persephone retelling which is something I never read lmao. However, it’s Katee Robert so I’m sure it’ll be smutty so honestly I’m just excited for that aspect.
2. The Box In The Woods
The next book I have on my summer TBR is The Box in The Woods by Maureen Johnson. This is the 4th book in the Truly Devious series so I’ve been dying to read it. I honestly don’t know the plot of this book but this series is so fun and addicting so I know I want to read it this summer. I know this is more of a mystery so it would be better for fall but I just love these characters so I can’t wait that long lmao.
3. Deuces Wild
The next book I have on my summer TBR is Deuces Wild by Christina C Jones. This is the third book in the High Stakes series and I’m super excited to read Ace’s story. She made a cameo in another series so I’ve been eager since I read the description for this book. Plus I need to keep up my backlist catch-up of CCJ.
4. Today Tonight Tomorrow
The next book is another author whose backlist I”m getting caught up on. This is another YA outing from Rachel Lynn Solomon and I think it follows two high-school rivals who fall in love either right before or after graduation. Either way, I love this cover and I feel like Rachel Lynn Solomon is quickly becoming a new favorite author so I’m hyped for this one.
5. Twisted Love
The final book I have on my summer TBR is Twisted Love by Ana Huang. I know this book has been making the rounds on Booktube and Book Tok so I’m cautiously optimistic. This one is a brother’s best friend mafia romance, I believe?? I know it features some of my favorite tropes so I’m incredibly excited to see if it lives up to the hype plus it’s on KU.
