5 fake dating romance recs + 5 on my TBR

Hello friends and fellow book lovers! For this week’s 5 and 5 post, I’m going to be talking about one of my favorite tropes which is fake dating. If you don’t know what fake dating is, it’s basically two people agreeing to date but it’s all fake before they eventually start to have real feelings for each other. I absolutely love this trope and I’m so happy to be finally writing up a post about this trope including some of my favorite books featuring it along with some on my TBR.

1. Desire and the Deep Blue Sea

The first fake dating romance I have to recommend is Desire and the Deep Blue Sea by Olivia Dade. This book features a fake dating romance between Thomas and Callie who are co-workers. Things don’t work out with Callie’s fiancé and she enlists Thomas to help her and pose as her fiancé. Honestly, this book was incredibly short but their relationship was so realistic and well-developed. Easily one of my favorite books of Olivia Dade’s and truly such a fun summery read featuring fake dating.

2. A Fake Girlfriend for Chinese New Year

The second book I have to recommend is A Fake Girlfriend for Chinese New Year. I feel like I don’t have to explain much about this one as the title pretty much says it all. This book focuses on Zach who asks his friend to be his fake girlfriend for Chinese New Year. These two quickly fall into a pattern and it’s clear they’ve had feelings for a while which makes it all the better. I feel like this series is such an undiscovered treasure trove which is why I’m recommending it.

3. Take A Hint, Dani Brown

The next book I have to recommend is one I’m sure a lot of you have heard of or have read as it’s probably Talia Hibbert’s most popular book. This book features a fake dating romance between Dani and Zaf who are co-workers and friends before an unfortunate incident pulls them together. Upon that happening, the two agree to fake date to help Zaf and it goes from there. This book is SO delightful and is easily one of Talia Hibbert’s best. The relationship between these two is so swoony and Zaf is just such an amazing love interest. I don’t want to say much about it but if you love romance and haven’t read this, you need to remedy that.

4. Make A Scene

The next book I have to recommend is one I read earlier this year and I LOVE it. Make A Scene features a fake dating romance between Retta who owns a bakery and Duncan who owns the gym that moved in beside her. The two agree to fake date as a way to get Retta’s family off her back and parking space privileges among other things. I absolutely loved seeing their relationship develop along with their friendship. Plus all of the food made me SO hungry which could be a pro or a con. This is another underrated fave of mine so if you like fake dating, then give this one a try.

5. Sweet on the Greek

The final book I have to recommend is Sweet on the Greek by Talia Hibbert which is honestly my favorite of the series and one of my favorite Talia Hibbert books. This one focuses on Nik who asks Aria to be his fake girlfriend for a trip with his friends. While I adore the fake dating element in this book and I loved watching their relationship develop, I really LOVED how steamy this book was. The sex scenes in this one are just god-tier so if you like smut, the sexual chemistry between these two is off-the-charts. Easily my favorite fake dating romance of the bunch I recommended.

6. Act Like It

The first book I have on my TBR that features fake dating is Act Like It by Lucy Parker. I’ve never read anything by Lucy Parker before but I’ve heard amazing things. I didn’t realize until I looked up a post that this book featured fake dating. This series seems like it’s going to be a lot of fun and I’m really excited to dive into it. I rarely read books featuring famous people to boot so this should be a new experience for me when I get to it.

7. The Ex Talk

The next book I have on my TBR is The Ex Talk by Rachel Lynn Solomon. I’ve never read anything by this author before but the hype for this one got me. I know this book features a romance between two radio hosts that I believe are pretending to be exes which sounds like such a unique premise. I really want to give this one a try and see if it ends up being as good as everyone makes it out to be.

8. Playing House

The next book I have on my TBR is Playing House by Ruby Lang. I honestly don’t know anything about this book other than it has such a cute cover. However, I’m incredibly excited to dive into it and to finally give Ruby Lang a chance. This book seems like it’s going to be so soft and fun, hopefully something similar to Jackie Lau. Either way, I’m excited.

9. Trade Me

The next fake dating book I have on my TBR is Trade Me by Courtney Milan. I honestly didn’t even know this book featured fake dating but it’s one I plan on reading this spring. This book follows two people who decides to swap lives I’m pretty sure and I just need to read Courtney Milan already. That’s just a given.

10. The Dare

The final fake dating book I have on my TBR is The Dare by Elle Kennedy. Ellyn and I buddy-read this series in 2019. At first, I didn’t want to give this one a chance but then I saw it on sale and talked to Ellyn. We agreed to still buddy-read this series and finish it out together. I’ve heard kind of meh things about this one but I’m still excited to wrap up this series and to finally close this chapter lmao.
