5 2020 Reads that were Disappointing

Hello friends and fellow book lovers! For this week’s Wednesday post, I wanted to look back at some of my 2020 reads. Today, I wanted to talk about the books that were disappointing. Even if I didn’t absolutely hate these books, something about them was disappointing to me. With that being said, let’s get into the five books that disappointed me in such a disappointing year lmao.

5. Twelve Dates of Christmas

The first disappointing read has to to go Twelve Dates of Christmas by Rilzy Adams. I discovered Rilzy Adams in 2020 and fell in love with her books. However, this one was incredibly disappointing. Not only did it feel like she rushed to publish this one, but it lacked the magic of her previous works. Maybe it’s due to the fact that it’s one of her older books but it wasn’t nearly as amazing as her other works. Either way, I do plan on reading more of her backlist.

4. Neighborly (Erotic Accommodations #2)

The next disappointing read for me was Neighborly by Katrina Jackson. I feel like I went into this book with mismanaged expectations. I thought it was going to be something entirely different than what it was. While it was incredibly sexy and fun at times, I felt like I wanted more development and a lot more smut than the book featured. It also felt a little long for my liking. Nevertheless, I do plan on reading more of Katrina Jackson’s backlist as she’s another new favorite.

3. Time Of Our Lives

I’m not sure if you’re sensing a theme here, but it’s basically all authors I’ve absolutely loved who’ve written books that disappointed me. This duo was no expectation as I felt like this book lacked the magic of their previous releases. There wasn’t an HEA and I wanted that for these two. They were dealing with a lot and they really needed some kind of happiness in the end. I know not every book has to have an HEA but this book would have been better if they would have gotten one.

2. Well Played (Well Met #2)

The next book to make my list is Well Played by Jen DeLuca. I read the first book in this series in 2019 and absolutely loved it. It was such a delightful and fun read. On the other hand, this book felt like the exact opposite. It featured a trope I hated and I don’t think it was done well. Like I said before, this book seemed to lack the magic of her previous release but I am excited to read the next book in this series.

1. Better Off Red (Vampire Sorority Sisters #1)

The final book making the cut on this list is Better Off Red by Rebekah Weatherspoon. I really enjoy all of the books I’ve read by her so I was excited for this one. However, it felt like it was too busy and the writing style just didn’t work for me. I do think Rebekah Weatherspoon writes amazing f/f stories but this one had too much going on. This one was easily one of my most disappointing reads of the year.

Those are just five disappointing reads for me in 2020. I probably have more, but those are the five that jump out at me most. I do plan on reading more from these authors in 2021 though so they weren’t as disappointing as they could be.
