My Top 5 Songs from Positions + Recommending a book for each song

Hello friends and fellow book lovers! If you read my review of The Roommate, then you’ll know I paired 5 Ariana Grande songs with it. It was mostly an early post to celebrate her new album coming out. However, I’ve had some time to think about the album and come up with my top 5 songs from it. To make it a bit more bookish, I decided to pick a book to pair with each song.

Before getting started, I’d like to know your top 5 songs and if you have books you’d pair with these songs. With that out of the way, let’s get into my top 5 songs and the books I’d pair with them.

5. “34 + 35”

Starting things off, the first song I had to include was “34 +35” which is basically the horniest song on the album. It’s all about Ariana wanting to spend all night, boning her man and honestly, that’s a mood lmao. Before getting into why I paired it with this book, my favorite lyrics are: “Even though I’m wifey/You can hit it like a side chick/Don’t need no side dick (no).”

For the book, I chose Fans Only which follows two best friends who start an Only Fans account to make money and it’s basically about them having sex. Obviously, feelings go deeper but this song matches up perfectly with most of this book. This was an easy pick for this one.

4. “Nasty”

Speaking of horny songs, the next one on my list is “Nasty.” This song is as its title says, it’s all about getting nasty with someone. Aside from the lyrics, I really enjoy the beat of this song and I just think it’s fun. As for my favorite lyrics, “Promise I’m gon’ give it to you/Like you never had it/I know it’s so good.”

For the book to pair up with this song, I went with Desperate Measures by Katee Robert and honestly, it fits perfectly. This is an erotic romance between Jasmine and Jafar with an emphasis on daddy kink and consent non-consent situations. Once again, this was another easy book to pair with this song.

3. “Six Thirty”

For my next favorite song, it has to be “Six Thirty.” This one is all about the your man being down for you no matter what. It’s only slightly sexual as compared to some of the others on this list. As for my favorite lyrics, “I just wonder baby if you’re gonna stay/Even if one day I lose it and go crazy.” Honestly, that is SO relatable so it’s clear why I like this song.

The book I paired up with this one was Take A Hint, Dani Brown. This one really reminds me of how Dani feels about Zaf and how she grows to realize he really is down for her. Sigh, these two are one of my favorite bookish couples in 2020 and this song pairs so incredibly with their vibe.

2. “Off the Table”

Harbor (Beards & Bondage, #3)

These top two songs are easily my two favorites from the album. “Off The Table” is such a beautiful song and a perfect collab with The Weeknd. Something about their voices together and the lyrics just make me feel things lmao. My favorite lyrics from the song have to be, “I’ll wait for you/Even though it always feels like I’ll be number two/To someone you can’t hold anymore/If you let me in, I’m ready to give you what I couldn’t before.”

The book I paired up with this song was Harbor by Rebekah Weatherspoon. This book focuses on a m/m/f BDSM relationship and they’re all healing from traumas but eventually come together. It’s such a beautiful story about love, healing and growing as a person. This book jumped out to me as soon as I started looking for books to pair with these songs.

1. “Obvious”

As for my favorite song on the album, I’m going with “Obvious.” I didn’t think about this one much upon first listen but I’ve had time to sit with it and I can’t get enough of this song. I’ve been listening to it on repeat and it reminds me a lot of my relationship so maybe I’m biased. Either way, my favorite lyrics are, “I love the thought of us in the evening/Crave the feeling/The way you feel, something ’bout it’s healing/I’m praying we don’t fuck this up.”

The book I paired up with this one is Being Hospitable by Meka James. This book focuses on a girl falling for her best friend’s sister and these two SO obviously have feelings for each other but don’t do anything for the longest time. It’s jus so sweet and matches up perfectly with their relationship. ❤
