Hello friends and fellow book lovers! It’s almost Halloween and I was stumped about what I should do for Halloween. I already did a Halloween romance recs post so I decided I should do a Halloween book tag. For this year, I decided to go with the American Horror Story Book tag. I love this show so it’s the perfect thing for me 😀
I found this tag on a random Youtube channel but I wanted to give credit to the creator who is asreadbyBrooke on Youtube. She came up with some really good prompts and I can’t wait to get into them so let’s get into the prompts and the books I picked out for them.
Murder House: A book series whose first book really sucked you in.
I actually mentioned this one in my Halloween romance recs post so I won’t go too in-depth with it. This book is a romance between a serial killer and an FBI agent. I picked up the first book and I was immediately hooked. I ended up binging the entire series in four days. They’re super short and you’ll want to pick up the next one as soon as you finish the previous book.
Asylum: A book with aspects of mental health issues.
The book I chose for this one was The House in the Cerulean Sea. This book deals a lot with magical children but also with their mental health along with their caretake and the worker who comes to visit them. Each child has a lot going on and it’s interesting to see how their mental health is tied to that. Honestly, this book was a delight.
Coven: A book with witches/witchcraft in it.
Take A Hint, Dani Brown probably isn’t anyone’s first guess for this. However, Dani is a witch and practices witchcraft throughout the story. It might not be a traditionally witchy book but I also think of it when I think of witches.
Freak Show: A book with a character that is seen as an outcast.
In a lot of the book, Jude sees herself as an outcast and it’s clear why as Islamophobia is running rampage after the 9/11 terrorist attacks. A lot of her fellow students and even people in the community see her that way. It’s very upsetting but by the end, Jude realizes her worth and is able to carve out a place for herself.
Hotel: A book where the setting plays a critical role in the story.
The book I chose for this one is My Brother’s Husband, Volume 1. A major part of the book is about Mike who is Yaichi’s brother’s husband coming to visit after Ryoji passed away. The story’s set in Japan and the setting is why Mike came to visit in the first place which was incredible. Honestly, I loved this manga and I’m happy it was my first manga read.
Roanoke: A book with a unique writing style that you loved.
The book I chose for this is Coffee in the Noon by Harleigh Rae. This book has such a beautiful and poetic writing style which I know everyone won’t enjoy. I personally really loved it and it inspired me to check out more of her books. It’s so gorgeous and flowery though so it might not be for everyone.
That’s my Halloween/American Horror Story book tag. I don’t have anyone to tag but if you watch and love AHS, then consider yourself tagged. This was a pretty short tag but I had a lot of fun, writing up this post. Plus it gave me the chance to talk about a lot of books that I’ve enjoyed this year.
