The Anti-TBR Tag

Hello friends and fellow book lovers! I’ve been wanting to do this tag for a while and I’ve finally found a place for it. I’ve been doing some other TBR posts and this time, I wanted to talk about some books I won’t be reading. I won’t make this intro much longer so let’s get into the tag and my answers for it.

Before getting started, this tag was created by Nicole & Her Books. I really like her content and I think she’s so creative. This tag is just one example of that so let’s get into my answers for it. 🙂

1. A popular book EVERYONE loves that you have no interest in reading?

The book I chose for this first question is Boyfriend Material by Alexis Hall. I’ve never read anything by Alexis Hall but this book was hyped. It’s an m/m rockstar romance and I’ve heard a lot of people talk about how good it is. Personally, it doesn’t seem like it’s going to be something I’ll enjoy plus it’s incredibly long for a romance book.

2. A classic book (or author) you don’t have an interest in reading?

I’ve never read The Catcher in The Rye and I have no interest in it. I think the entire book focuses on a rich white guy and honestly??? That’s a snooze fest so there’s no way I’d want to pick it up lmao.

3. A problematic author whose books you have no interest in reading?

For me, this has to be Colleen Hoover. I’ve heard terrible things about her books especially the “romances” in her books. Since then, I’ve stayed away from them and I don’t plan on picking them up. I know that a lot of her more recent books are problematic for multiple reasons so I’ve stayed away from them. They just seem like they’re not going to be my cup of tea so I plan on never reading her books.

4. An author you have read a couple of books from & have decided their books are not for you?

The author I chose for this one is Jasmine Guillory. I’ve read all of her books and none of them have wowed me. I read almost all of this entire series but have no interest in reading Party of Two or any other books in this series. For some reason, her books don’t work for me. I’m not sure if it’s the pacing, her writing style or just the lack of development but I never end up jiving with it.

5. A genre you have no interest in OR a genre you tried to get into & couldn’t?

For this question, I don’t really have an answer. I’ll usually give all genres a try but I don’t have one that I’ve completely written off. Maybe someday but it’s not going to be today lol.

6. A book you have bought but will never read? (this can be a book you have unhauled/returned to the library unread)

For this one, I’m going with Say You Still Love Me by K.A. Tucker. I bought this book because I loved The Simple Wild. However, I started this and couldn’t get into it so since then, it’s been sitting in my unhaul pile. Maybe I’m just being too harsh on it but it seems like a spoiled rich girl who got whatever she wanted and it annoyed me to no end lmao.

7. A series you have no interest in reading OR a series you started & have dnf’d?

The series I have no interest in is Sinners of Saint by L.J. Shen. I know that this is a new adult series and I’m just not into those now. I also think this is a bully romance and I have no interest in reading bully romances. Even though Booktube really hypes her up, I can’t see myself having any interest in this series or this author.

8. A new release you have no interest in reading?

The new release I’m going with Ties That Tether by Jane Igharo. This book is a romance between a Nigerian woman and a white guy but I didn’t realize it focused a lot on her being pregnant. I never want to be pregnant or want kids so this is a hard pass for me.
