The Future of “My Favorite” + 5 things I learned while on hiatus

Hello friends and fellow book lovers! This week’s post is a little bit odd but I’ve been going back and forth with this idea. As much as I love doing “My Favorite” posts every week, it’s getting a bit tiring. I really do enjoy coming up with the prompts and creating themes for certain months. However, I do feel like it’s getting a bit tedious since I’m usually the only one particpating.

I can honestly see why Maureen gave up after a while. It’s a lot of work for what’s basically thankless. With that being said, I’m going to go on hiatus from “My Favorite” for the rest of 2020. I’ll recollect my thoughts hopefully by the end of the year and decide what I’m going to do. Right now, it’s up in the air and I’m a little bit overwhelmed by the world.

Nevertheless, I still wanted to make a post about it and also talk a little bit about my hiatus. If you didn’t know, I went on hiatus in September and I decided to come back in October. You can read my full post to see why I went on hiatus. Anyways, I can confidently say it was a great thing for me and I’m glad to get back into blogging.

I wanted to talk about some of the things I learned during my hiatus and why I think my hiatus was such a good idea. 🙂

5. Maybe I actually love reading long books

If you’ve been following me this year, then you’ll know I’ve read a lot of books and most of them have been short. Very rarely do I pick up a book over 400 pages but I decided to do something different in September. In September, I picked up multiple long books and I enjoyed all of them. I especially adored The Wall of Winnipeg and Me. Overall, it just showed I should get outside of my comfort zone more.

4. Getting motivation to write is hard

If you didn’t know, I also freelance write in addition to this blog. Writing for two different sites is a lot on top of writing for this blog. For September, I tried to get some motivation to write for the other two sites. However, it ended up being a lot more challenging. It’s truly so difficult to try to be motivated especially with everything going on in the world. With things slowly getting back to normal, I’ll hopefully find more motivation.

3. Booktube is still one of my favorite things on the internet

Even though I didn’t read nearly as much, I still watched a normal amount of Booktube and with my new phone, I’ve been able to watch at work. I love finding new channels and Jessen Reads Romance is a recent favorite. However, I’ve been watching channels I’ve talked about in previous posts too. Either way, Booktube is something I really enjoy and gave me some bookish content while being away from my blog.

2. Halloween is becoming a new favorite holiday

Another thing I learned during my hiatus is I have new-found appreciation for Halloween. I’ve always enjoyed the holiday but it seems extra special this year. Maybe it’s because my boyfriend loves Halloween. Either way, I’m SUPER excited for Halloween this year. I’m excited to wear my Halloween pajamas, my Halloween leggings and watching Halloween movies. The thing I’m most excited for is making some Halloween treats lmao.

1. I’m missing out on a lot of good content on Netflix

Oddly enough, the last thing I learned during my hiatus is I’ve been missing a lot of good content on Netflix. I usually end up reading a book or watching Youtube instead of watching Netflix. However, I’ve watched a few movies on there and enjoyed all of them so that’s something. I also don’t watch many movies in general so this was a nice surprise for me. Overall, it might seem like a dumb thing to learn during my hiatus but it was enjoyable.

With that being said, we’ll see what the rest of 2020 holds. Hopefully, 2021 ends up being a hell of a lot better. Before you finish reading my post, please take the time to look over these attached links to help with Black Lives Matter.
