Hello friends and fellow book lovers! It’s Sunday on bookishlyrebecca and as you know, it’s tag day. This week’s tag is a little bit different as it’s not done in the traditional sense but let me talk about one of my bad blogging habits before I start.
Originally, I planned on doing the End of the Year Book Tag. I was tagged by both Avery and Ellyn to do it. I started it and realized I basically answered no to every question so what fun is that? Anyways, I just wanted to give them a shoutout since I appreciated being tagged but alas, I’m lame and have no answers lol.
Getting back to the Bad Reading Habits tag, I was tagged by Ally. Um, do I even need to introduce her? Ally is one of my favorite bloggers and a great friend. ❤ We stan. Let’s get into some of my bad reading habits!
The first bad habit Ally mentioned is one I do all the time. I always like to flip forward and read how many pages I have left in a chapter. Usually, I only do this when I’m either reading in bed or just want to finish the book. Regardless, it’s something I’m super guilty of and I want to stop but I also want to know at the same time, lol.
Listening to audiobooks at work
I’m going, to be honest: I’ve only done this twice but I felt weird about it each time. If you don’t know, I work in a grocery store in the deli. Our store opens at 6am and as you might imagine, we don’t have a lot of people coming in that early. Twice, I’ve listened to audiobooks while I was working and let’s be clear: I was working but there’s no one there so you have to try and entertain yourself lol.
I don’t really have an audiobook service now so I’m not sure when it’ll happen again. In keeping with this theme, I also like to watch booktube videos on my lunch break. I rarely bring a book so at least, I’m consuming some bookish content lol.
Starting an author’s backlist and then forgetting about it
One personal reading goal I set was to finish an author I enjoyed in 2017’s backlist and it was a complete fail. I wanted to read Emery Lord’s backlist and haven’t read a single book by her this year. I also wanted to read all of Jason Reynolds’ backlist and I did read some but not all. I’m such a goal-oriented person so not doing it felt like a major deal.
Never buying from independent/used bookstores
I’m super embarrassed over this one. I know both bloggers and booktubers put such a huge emphasis on this, but I can’t help it. Most of the books I buy come from Barnes & Noble or via online shopping. In all honesty, I don’t have any used bookstores near me and I don’t have a car so I can’t drive the 2 hours it takes to get to the closest one.
Focusing too much on my Goodreads goal
I think everyone kind of deals with this in a way. I love setting a Goodreads goal but I end up focusing on it a lot more than I should. I end up picking up a lot more books than I probably should just to reach it. Maybe next year, I can focus more on reading more quality books and less on the quantity. I know this is a highly-discussed issue in the bookish community so I had to include it.
Being a jerk at buddy reading
This is my last confession and one I always feel bad about. Maybe I’m just not cut out for buddy reading. Every time I buddy read, I either end up falling super behind or reading way ahead of the other person. Unless we have a schedule mapped out, I can’t ever stay on track as much as I try. I have a few buddy reads planned out for 2019 so I’m keeping my fingers crossed that I’ll get better.
Those are 6 of my bad reading habits even though I probably have a million more. I don’t want to feel bad so what are some of your bad reading habits?
Also since it’s the end of the year, I’m not tagging anyone. If you want to do this, feel free because I’d love to see your answers 😀
