Hello friends and fellow book lovers! Last month, I participated in the Contemporary-A-Thon and loved it. This month, I’m once again participating in another read-a-thon but it’s not as much pressure. Anyways, let’s get into the read-a-thon and the books I’ll be reading in the month of October!
For October, I’ll be participating in the Nightmare Before Book Princess Reviews Readathon. It was created by Mandy and Sha of the BookPrincessReviews blog, two of my favorite bloggers and I’m happy to call them my friends! You can check out the rules and everything else about the read-a-thon on their original post. 🙂
I’m going to try and complete 6 of the prompts. I know that’s not much but I don’t want to burn myself before the end of the year. I like my reading pace and I’d like to keep it going for the rest of the year. Anyways, let’s get into the books I’ll be using for said prompts.
Jack’s Lament: A book with sad overtones
The first book is one I picked up on a whim at Barnes & Noble. I’d heard Emma from Emmmabooks talk about it so I figured why not? I’m pretty sure this book follows a story who was sexually assaulted and the aftermath of it. Even though I spent September reading mostly contemporaries, I’ve been eagerly waiting to read this one.
Doctor Finklestein: A Spooky Book with an Eccentric Character
Originally, I planned on doing a reread of the entire series but I decided against it. I’m going to just read Escaping from Houdini instead. This is easily one of my most anticipated reads of the year and it feels like I’ve been waiting forever to read it. There’s no way I couldn’t include it on my TBR for this month especially since I held off, reading it.
Oogie Boogie: A Spooky Book You’re Taking a Gamble On
I had another book in place of this one, but I ended up changing my TBR since I acquired a few books. In all fairness, I only spent money on half of them since a majority of them was bought with a gift card.
Anyways, the spooky book I’m taking a gamble on is Sadie by Courtney Summers. I’ve heard such amazing things about this book but I’m skeptical. I’m hoping it ends up living to the hype and I love it just as much as everyone else does!
This Is Halloween: Spookiest Book on your TBR
This is one of the books I used my gift card for! Ever since I heard about The Dark Descent of Elizabeth Frankenstein, I’ve been wanting to read it. Since I had a gift card, I figured what’s the harm? If I don’t like it, I’ll unhaul it and if I do like it, then it’ll be another book to add to my shelf.
I don’t know much about it, but I consider it the spookiest book on my TBR. I’m just hoping like Sadie, it lives up to the hype.
What’s This: A Book with a Mystery
I’ve been severely underutilized the comics on Hoopla. This month, I’m going to try and focus more on graphic novels/comics. Like I mentioned, I don’t want to burn out so graphic novels are some quick and easy reads. Anyways, I read the 1st volume of Snotgirl in August and someone said it only gets better so I’ll give it a try this month 🙂
Zero: A Book with Ghosts
I don’t know much about this middle-grade graphic novel?? I think a few booktubers have mentioned it so when I saw it on Hoopla, I thought why not? I do know it features a ghost and it’s set in a laundromat. That’s all I need to know honestly because I’m down to read some ghost stories for Halloween 🙂
Aside from the read-a-thon, I still have The Kiss Quotient on my TBR. I’m just waiting for my friend and me to find a good time. Hopefully, my hold on Dirty Rowdy Thing by Christina Lauren will be off too so that’s another one.
Like I mentioned, I’m not going to try and force myself to read. I already met my Goodreads goal and I don’t want to be so uptight with my reading, lol. I’m just excited to be reading some books on my physical TBR (when did I get one of those? ha)
What about you? What books do you plan on reading in October?
Good luck with your TBR! I can’t wait to see what you think of Escaping From Houdini and The Dark Descent of Elizabeth Frankenstein!

I was debating rereading the Stalking Jack The ripper series too but I think I’ll do that when the final book comes out. I’m so excited to start EFH too! The Dark Descent is on my TBR and I’m quite excited for it. Best of luck with your TBR!

Ooh, so happy to see your picks for the readathon! I haven’t heard of Sheets but it looks so adorable, I’m excited for your review. I’ve been looking for more graphic novels recently so this is working out well, haha. The Dark Descent of E.F. *definitely* tops as spookiest book, the cover alone gives me the creeps. I expect a lot of darkness in that read. Enjoy your Halloween reads!! 😀

Yes! It was too adorable but still a little bit creepy which was awesome! I think I have another one on hold at the library so I’m crossing my fingers that it’s as good.
Yessssss I can’t wait to read it! Hopefully it comes in the mail tomorrow 😀

Oooooooh your picks are so so so great, Rebecca, and I’m eagerly anticipating all of the reviews for them! I just finished The Dark Descent last night, and it was SO good. I really hope you enjoy it when you get to it, because I totally vibed with it. And I’ve been seeing Sheets pop up all over, so I’m intrigued to see what you think of it before I dive into as well. And for sure ready to see your Escaping from Houdini review. Wonderful picks, and I’m so pumped for this! 🙂

Oooh that makes me even more excited to read Dark Descent. It should come in the mail tomorrow 🙂
It’s a pretty adorable graphic novel with a little bit of spookiness. Yes! I ended up loving my review which is surprising as I usually hate my reviews lol.
Thank you!
