My Life

My Favorite…Dream Job

Hello friends and fellow book lovers! I can’t believe this is my last My Favorite post of July, where has the month gone? The closer we get to August, the closer we are to my birthday and my boyfriend’s visit. I feel like I mention him all the time, but that’s my BABY and I love him.

Anyways, in July, I’m trying out “My Favorite,” a meme created by Maureen’s Books. I’m going to copy and paste what she posts before the master list: “My Favorite.. is a weekly meme hosted by Maureen’s Books that started on Wednesday, January 4th, 2017. In this meme, we share every week something we love with each other. Because let’s face it…The world can be a dark place and it’s to share something positive.

Each week I will post a new My Favorite.. post about one subject and I’ll tell you all about it. And the best part? Everyone is welcome to join. The only thing you’ll have to do is sign up on my weekly post, link back to this post and visit others. Feel free to use my My Favorite.. image or make your own.”

Dream job is a hard question for me to answer. I have a few answers for it honestly because being an English graduate is kind of an opening playing field. There’s a lot of different career paths I could go down and I have positive feelings about all of them.

My 1st one is to be a professional writer. In some ways, I already do this as I write for two different sites. While it doesn’t pay much, I’m passionate about what I’m writing about and hope to get discovered that way. So far nothing has happened but we’ll see.

My 2nd one is being an editorial assistant. I’ve applied for a few jobs like this, but haven’t heard back. I’m a little disappointed, but I’m trying not to get discouraged. I know it’s a tough business to break into, but I’m going to give it my best.

My 3rd one is being an event planner. This is the job my aunt just started and something I’ve become interested in. I think I could be a pretty good event planner as I’m organized, hate to spend money and I’m good with people.

Anyways, those are just some of my ideas. Also if anyone has any tips on breaking into these industries or finding a job, help a girl out!

      1. Well, I went and got a Masters in Library and Information Sciences after undergrad. Then I got a coop with the government as a Metadata Specialist and Author Liaison. And now I’m permanent! It’s not what I saw myself doing but I truly love my job. I get to work with clients, tag products and ensure the public can easily find our products, create manuals, etc. I plan to volunteer at a library once life settles down a bit.

  2. Those all sound like amazing jobs! I would love to do something in publishing or marketing for books, or be a librarian, but honestly, anything with books or writing would be up my alley!

      1. Same here. The goal for me is to hopefully get a degree in library science, but grad school is soooo expensive. It’s still something I’m considering, but if I could get some other bookish dream job, I’d be happy

  3. I love your dream jobs! I’m currently looking for jobs at the moment and so this post just called out to me. I steal this post idea, if only so that I can turn my job search in to a blog post ^_^

      1. I’m currently looking into overseas teaching programs as I’d like to travel. Also state department jobs, which is boring but it’d be great to save some money. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I think I will do a series on my job search, just because I’ve noticed a lot of book bloggers are in the same boat. English majors who don’t know what to do without connections :/

  4. I wanna work in the publishing industry too but it’s so expensive to live in NY. I noticed that most jobs in the pub industry’s in NY.. Honestly, I’d be happy to work in a library. I guess, we’ll see! I’m looking to get a master’s in Library Science but application alone is freaking expensive. The nearest schools for me are UCLA & USC. Just stressed out thinking about this. 😆
