Top 5 Tuesday: Top 5 series I won’t be finishing/starting

Hello friends and fellow book lovers. I can’t believe it’s already May! What better way to start off May than a Top 5 Tuesday post?

Unfortunately, I’m going to have to tweak this post. I usually try not to do this because I know Shanah works hard. However, I honestly can’t think of any book series I’ve started recently and won’t be finishing. Instead, I’ll be talking about series I never plan on reading.

Hopefully, Shanah doesn’t mind! If you’re interested in participating in Top 5 Tuesday, all you have do is write up your post and pingback to one of Shanah’s posts. Make sure you pingback to her posts and not just her blog so she can add you to the list.

Before I get started, I’m sure I’ll mention some people’s favorite series. If it’s your favorite series, that’s great. However, I don’t think I’ll be interested in it or plan on getting invested.

5. The Chronicles of Narnia series

This series isn’t super popular now, but it was when I was younger. However, it never interested me. I enjoyed the first movie, but the books weren’t for me. I know it’s a classic, but I don’t plan on starting this series. I know I’d either get bored or give up on it eventually.

4. Anything by Sarah J Maas

*Cue all the unfollowers and hate* I know a lot of people love Sarah J Maas and I can see why. She’s an incredibly popular fantasy series writer. However, I’m not a fan of fantasy and I don’t think I’d enjoy her books. Of her two series, I’d lean more towards A Court of Thorns and Roses but I’d rather just stay away.

Mostly, I’m staying away because I’m not a fantasy fan and I don’t really have the money to go out and buy all the books. Plus multiple reviewers I trust either haven’t read them or read them and disliked them.

3. A Series of Unfortunate Events series

This might fit into the category of series I don’t plan on finishing. However, I read the first book in elementary school. I didn’t love it and never picked it up again. Maybe I’d change my mind now, but it doesn’t interest me anymore. I think enough time has passed for this series.

One silver lining is one of my work friends raved about the Netflix show. Maybe I’ll take his word for it and watch it. 🙂

2. The Lord of the Rings series

This is another iconic series but I won’t be reading it. I’ve never been into the movies so the books never interested me either. No matter who you talk to or where you go, you’re bound to find someone who loves either the books or the movies.

As iconic as it is, I don’t think I could get into it. I have a hard time, connecting with fantasy and this is extremely high fantasy. Even though it only has 3 books, I don’t think it could keep my attention that long.

1. Pretty Little Liars series

Taking my #1 spot is a series I’m not finishing. I started reading Pretty Little Liars my senior year of high school. It was right before the show premiered and I was hyped until the show started. I fell in love with the show and the books fell by the wayside.

Eventually, my love for the series dimmed too. With that came my motivation to read the books. At this point, I think the series is dated and I wouldn’t enjoy it as much this time around.

Hopefully, you all enjoyed my tweak on Shanah’s prompt. I was surprised I even thought of two series I started. Nevertheless, it was fun to get the others off my chest and I can only hope SJM fans don’t hate me!

What are some series you’re never going to finish or series you’re never going to start? 🙂

  1. I read some of the Chronicles of Narnia books when I was younger, but I never managed to finish them. I think I ended up enjoying the movies more than the books!

  2. I’m pretty sure i’m not going to read acotar either, i just missed all the hype when the first few were first coming out and have never really been interested in reading them since. Interestingly i’m also not massively interested in reading the grishaverse triology by leigh bardugo even though i loved six of crows and i think that might be because one of the main reasons why i loved six of crows was the characters who are obviously not in the other books. Although i really enjoyed a series of unfortunate events i can see why you wouldn’t enjoy it and i would say that if you didn’t like the first it’s a pretty good idea not to carry on because they all follow a very similar format all the way through!

    1. Sorry to reply so late, THUG squad!!! I wanted to wait until I had time and I was on my computer. 🙂

I missed all the hype, too. That’s exactly how I feel because I’m both not interested in and I’m very picky with my Beauty and the Beast retellings!

I’m the same way, too. I plan on reading Six of Crows, but not the Grishaverse Trilogy. I am way too picky with fantasy so I’m just sticking with the relatively popular ones or ones who people I trust love or recommend.

Oooh then that’s good. Sorry I took so long to reply to your comment but I knew I wanted to write a nice response. 🙂

      1. That’s ok and thank you!! 🙂 I am also really choosy with my fantasy because it’s not my main genre and also I find there are so many series in the fantasy genre that you really have to commit and I’m not the greatest with commitment!

  3. It hurts my heart a little to see ACOTAR on the list, but I’m an absolute fantasy nut, so it’s right up my alley. I totally understand why you wouldn’t want to read anything by her!! No hate or unfollows here!
Thanks for participating – added you to the list 🙂

  4. I feel the same way about all of these! Sarah J Maas just isn’t an author I’m interested in. The Lord of the Rings is way to slow. The other series are books I would have enjoyed more when I was younger. My time has past to read and enjoy them.

  5. Wow I agree on all of the series mentioned except ACOTAR because I own the book and I am interested in reading somethinf from Sarah J. Mass as I haven’t yet but I completely share your feelings on Narnia, they just do not call to me at all.

  6. Haha, I am so on board with you skipping over ASOUE. I have read the whole series (out of spite in the end) and honestly, the show is just so much better.

  7. I can agree with most of the books you have on this list! I’ve been trying to read all the Narnia books since last October and I’m still only on 4 out of 7 because they don’t interest me enough to keep going. Same thing happened when I tried to read the PLL series in high school (I got through 3 books and gave up). I also have no interest in SJM books, but I may give them a try one day, just to see how it goes.
