Waiting on Wednesday #2

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly event hosted by Breaking the Spine and it focuses on upcoming releases we can’t wait for.

As much as I wanted to, I didn’t include Dear Martin in here again. After racking my brain, I was finally able to come up with another book I’m looking forward to. This book isn’t one I’ve been hearing a lot about but it’s been on my Goodreads TBR shelf for months.

I Am Not Your Perfect Mexican Daughter by Erika L. Sánchez

The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian meets Jane the Virgin in this poignant but often laugh-out-loud funny contemporary YA about losing a sister and finding yourself amid the pressures, expectations, and stereotypes of growing up in a Mexican-American home.

Perfect Mexican daughters do not go away to college. And they do not move out of their parents’ house after high school graduation. Perfect Mexican daughters never abandon their family.

But Julia is not your perfect Mexican daughter. That was Olga’s role.

Publisher: Knopf Books for Young Readers // Release Date: October 17th

October 17th is going to be a huge release day for me because so many of my anticipated releases come out that day. Anyways, the main reason this book drew me in was the cover because it’s gorgeous.

Then after reading the description, I knew I had to pick it up. In the blurb on Amazon, it’s pitched as a combo of The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian and Jane The Virgin. Um hello, that sounds amazing!

From what the reviews had said, it’s a heavy book but is also a coming-of-age story and a mystery. This book has so much going for it and it’s only making me want it more. I’m really excited to pick it up and I can’t wait to see if it lives up to my hype!

Are you looking forward to reading I Am Not Your Perfect Mexican Daughter? If not, what book are you eagerly waiting for?
